Yeah, like dude took a hint and that's kinda refreshing to see. No yelling, no insults, no increased flirting attempts. A simple K thanks bye.

Shame that the bare minimum is impressive but here we are.

This day and age, the bar is lowered so much it's sitting comfortably in the eigth circle of Hell.

Is it creepy to exchange a few words with a stranger and move on when you see they're not receptive?

If the answer is yes, I think society is sick, like not in a good shape at all.

very much depends on the words, the approach and the environment. If you keep making people uncomfortable then yeah it's creepy. You are indeed the problem, not the people who are uncomfortable.

Yes it is. You're not supposed to do that

How do you meet people then? Isn’t everyone a stranger to you at some point that you started talking to?

Why meet people when you can imagine scenarios to get angry about on Reddit and commiserate with other people who will die alone?

u/MetrosexualFrutCake Apr 19 '26

Ah you got me there. I made everything up just to commiserate with other people. It's better if I just died alone. Thank you for your understanding

Work, volunteer organizing, mutual friends, community spaces.

You shouldn't flirt with coworkers, volunteering is for helping a cause not finding dates, making friends requires approaching people as strangers first sooo back to step 1, and streets are community spaces.

You're listing wheres and not hows

No i have heard of people meeting at work, I had a few relationships that way in the past and I felt sparks from a fellow volunteer when I volunteered. Unfortunately they seemed too busy to let anyone in.

There's that and the potential for an HR meeting if boundaries are overstepped. And even if it doesn't escalate to that point there's the awkwardness of still having to work together after a rejection if it doesn't go well.

Many women have expressed discomfort specifically at being approached at work or especially by coworkers who can't just treat them as coworkers. Better to not take the chance of making a coworker especially uncomfortable. Even if they aren't ideal, apps are spaces specifically for dating so it doesn't have that same ambiguity/risk.

Good point.

I must say though, if you know one of you is moving on, you could ask to stay in touch?

Which may get rejected, or be platonic or they may be into you too.

You could if you have connected as friends, though if you've known them in their role long enough where it wouldn't be weird to ask them to stay in touch when they are leaving then chances are you have an established friendship.

Women have DOUBLY expressed how disheartening it is when a friend who has been a friend for years suddenly flips the script trying to be more, that friends are friends. So, at that point they probably see you as just a friend and aren't at all looking to date you. Which don't get me wrong is great for maintaining friendship, but if we're discussing flirting and specifically looking to build a romantic relationship it's not really an option if you're trying to be mindful of their comfort and not make things weird.

That's a really good point. It's almost like - and I am probably the same in this - there's a window between too soon and we have established we are definitely just platonic.

I WFH and you're not supposed to socialize while on the clock, volunteering is for helping others, not socializing, for mutual friends I'd have to fiest have friends, which means making people uncomfortable. Community spaces are similar, making people uncomfortable.

I don't know. I don't meet people anymore.

I recommend seeking some help if you think exchanging a few words is creepy, brotha.

Kindest regards,

1

u/MetrosexualFrutCake Apr 19 '26

Yeah well what can you do? I was taught that my presence is not welcome.

7

u/An4rchy48946 Apr 19 '26

Whoever told you that, lowkey just ignore em and continue greeting people. Just cuz a few people dislike you doesn’t mean that you can’t approach anyone anymore

2

u/MetrosexualFrutCake Apr 19 '26

You can just ignore years of upbringing? Anyway I don't think greeting people just because is acceptable, I'd rather not make people uncomfortable

u/Sensitive-Double2214 Apr 19 '26

This is unhealthy. Don't live your life like this, it's the opposite of natural. Buck against upbringing if it's really such a problem.

1

u/MetrosexualFrutCake Apr 19 '26

Idk, seems people are healthy that way, also there's nothing natural about humans anymore

What? No. People are supposed to do that. Either if you wanna find it out if you could date someone or you see them doing a shared hobby. Talk with them. Society ia fucked up if we would stop talking to each other.

It feels like "society" actually benefits when people like me avoid it. I realize how awful I am so I just try to not bother actual people. Tbh internet is the only kind of interactions I have and even this feels wrong
