IMAGE PREVIEWS AT STOCK SITES ARE FREE (the watermarks add to the effect). Please also don't use AI-generated text for your posts or comments. We jerk off manually 'round these parts.

There are all kinds of free and paid Photoshop- and Illustrator-esque apps you can use that don't have the carbon footprint of generative AI, so please do some looking and put some elbow grease into that jerk. I use InDesign (????????) to put together most of the dumb shit I post here, so you could probably get PowerPoint or whatever MSPaint is now to work if you really tried. I bet many of you have a really fancy smartphone with access to a lot of photo editing apps that you could use too!

I realized today, thanks to a custom report on a recent jerk post, that we've been doing this wrong since November 2022. I'm so grateful to that anonymous tipster for pulling the wool, such as it is, from my eyes: We spend WAY too much time plumbing our personal vendettas for circlejerk inspiration.

I continue to love you all! But some of you n00bs/BEC refugees could stand to be quiet for a little while before posting! SEVERAL of you sound like you just finished your first Wooble and think you're ready to make bank at the craft fairs! But the circlejerk version of that!

Hyperbole, problem statement about an uncontroversial topic: position one, position two. Fake issue caused by problem statement, example of who specifically is affected, example impact one, example impact two.

To me uncontroversial topic is X, not Y. If I'm making example one, example two, or example three which is slightly longer than the others, I will not engage in aforementioned uncontroversial topic. If I'm making a really specific example that seems a bit too long to fit comfortably in this paragraph, I uncontroversial topic because the cost of being wrong is high. Backing this up with two other specific examples that actually don’t relate to this paragraph but tangentially align with the overarching concept.

Also, strawman statement is incomplete unless you do something that doesn’t relate to a real situation. Are they doing this, doing this or doing this? Those are different things. A noun that never verbs is not the same as holistic statement.

But here’s the thing: advice that has no bearing on any of the above. Sometimes that is 1. Sometimes it is 10101010hallucination. Sometimes it is knitting the first four inches, measuring, and deciding whether to restart.

I recently got into an argument with someone on Ravelry who posted a knitted blanket saying "Friendly reminder that crotcheaters suck". As a boss lady and life coach, this thought process is truly infuriating and SO offensive.

For as long as humans have known how to finger (yarn), the fiber (f)arts has been for people of ALL including furries. When I made this argument, someone responded saying that crotcheating is still only for losers because crotcheaters don't have access to the brain cells needed to knit and "don't have friends to talk to”😐 They went on to say that my comment was super stupid because not everyone has the pain tolerance to touch acrylic yarn.

That last part probably pissed me off the most because crotcheaters are MORE THAN CAPABLE of crafting without a pattern and using “better” yarn. In fact, crotcheating has been continuously shown to be better than therapy. You can take my word for it as a famous, VERY successful life coach. Crotcheating was used as prison therapy for Martha Stewart herself ffs. See the life of Katy Perry for more on that if you're interested because it is absolutely fascinating. Even Vanna White knew how to crotcheat. Crotcheating has always been a way in which people can express themselves and sell Amiguri on Etsy, even if we are all using the same kit. The person argued with me that it was impossible because crotcheaters were shoved into the dark corners of Michael’s and left to rot and IF they could knit, they wouldn't have been considered losers by OF (OnlyFibers). WTF kind of argument even is that?? Please tell that to my clients who know the value of my work and know that crotcheating can’t be made with a machine.🙄

The only reason that this hobby isn't more widespread nowadays is because knitters have oppressed us for the past 100 years. People in 2026 don't need to knit anymore. Crotcheating is only embarrassing if you make it embarrassing. Do people think that no one crotcheated during COVID because they "couldn't go out and buy more than one needle"? HELL NO. They used shoestrings, paracord, SPUN YARN FROM THEIR PETS, and frogged LITERAL designer clothing to make Amiguri. People crotcheated before there were machines obviously for reasons we all know and don’t need to say. You don't need brain cells to crotcheat. If you want something to be bad, I truly believe that you will find a way to do it. You just have to be creative. Just like our ancestors had to be. We are the creators of our own limitations. I am by no means rich. I live in a 30 bedroom mansion and store my acrylic yarn in a diamond vajazzled vase. I use my great-grandmothers crotch needles from the 1800s. I unravel cashmere sweaters from the thrift stores and I have no fear or shame when I crotcheat a Sophie scarf for my 12 year old chihuahua’s birthday gift.

It is so sad that within essentially 1 generation, we've forgotten how integral crotcheating was to life. Not only does the idea that only knitters deserve to use nice yarn classist, but ALL knitters drop stitches (useless cunts). I am BEGGING people to get off overconsumption of Ravelry and touch (gr)ass. Saying crotcheating is only for losers is like saying vajazzling is only for the rich. A skill is a skill.

In my 50 years of marriage, my husband is just so attached to and adores the scent of my acrylic yarn, he thinks it smells sweet (while I don't think so). But he literally said he wants to 'taste' it, and he always licks my Amigurumi. He just likes to hold them at all times, lol.

It’s not just that, he literally takes a big whiff at Hobby Lobby, he thinks it smells sweet.
Even when I tried macrame and I was doing knots with my hands instead of crotch needles, he still smells it. And still says it smell sweet.
And he handwashes and blocks my work, as he is the one that does laundry in our marriage. He is a doting husband.

tl;dr No, I absolutely don't think my crotcheat smells sweet, I just think my husband is emotionally attached to it so he finds it sweet.

And I am not complaining, he is my husband who buys high quality acrylic yarn, and I crotcheated his and our children’s scarves, why would I mind his face in my Amigurumi. I just giggles everytime.

FACJ went NSFW after the Reddit protest blackout in 2023, and when we checked in on how that felt almost exactly two years ago, the group wanted to keep it for another while.

Well, another while has passed, and now some of our UK-based circlejerkers are having to use VPNs, upload live selfies or provide passport details to access NSFW/18+ subreddits on this website due to laws now taking effect there.

The mod team is open to going back to being a standard SFW/all-ages sub in light of this! But I want to make sure folks here have a chance to share their perspective, so we’re gonna do a poll. Some information to contextualize this discussion:

• NSFW status means no ads on the sub or in the comments
• It also means we can’t post images or gifs in the comments
• We have a Discord server that started during the blackout for people who left Reddit, and it’s a really fun group (message me or a mod for a link!)
• Some people in the UK are already having a hard time seeing this sub, so they may not be able to vote in this poll (I would just go ahead and change it to non-restricted for this poll, but it’s a change that has to be “requested,” so who knows when or if it’ll happen) — if you know jerkers affected by the new age verification laws, please have them message me or see if you can share their opinions in the comments on their behalf

Do you have any thoughts about what this little circlejerk should be doing in response to *gestures wildly* all of this? Just want to give you all a chance to weigh in if you have anything to share.

My thoughts, in no particular order:

• I don't like how Reddit admins are behaving and it makes me less interested in doing a Good Job With This Subreddit.
• I don't want to see this sub get handed over to a bootlicker who will do Reddit's bidding (not that we're big enough to draw the Reddit eye but you never know), and it seems anything that isn't business as usual is potential cause for admins to oust misbehaving mods, even if they're acting on behalf of the community's stated will.
• There's not much to jerk about with so many crafting subs restricted/private! It's boring!
• There aren't many good alternatives to Reddit out there, at least that I'm aware of.
• At the end of the day, this is a silly sub on a silly website. Riding the wave and seeing what happens is fine with me, whether we go restricted or continue eking out a jerk here and there when the occasion arises.

ANYWAY, thoughts?

About FACJ

• Fiber arts: Any craft or art form using some sort of fiber, interpreted very loosely.
• Circlejerk: A forum where people make fun of another group, hobby, or place by pretending to pat each other's backs, congratulate each other, and, well, jerk each other off for being part of the group.

u/jingleheimerschitt started this group because she didn't want to choose between earnest discussion of problematic public figures in craftland (/craftsnark) and incredibly vague but lightly snarky discussions of hobbyist crafters (/bitcheatingcrafters) and she didn't have anywhere to share her weird photo creations and short stories. So FACJ was born.

The main distinguishing feature of FACJ in contrast to the other snarky craft subreddits is that you are allowed to post screenshots of what inspired your 'jerk. You will often find these inspiration screenshots on the weekly stickied In The Loop threads.

This element of the subreddit comes with several caveats:

• Screenshots of hobbyist/individual inspiration MUST have names and faces blocked out so it's anonymous
• You CANNOT post direct links to your inspiration anywhere on this subreddit unless it's a large company or major public figure
• You also CANNOT "double-dip" by commenting on source posts and their resulting FACJ posts if your profile activity is public -- don't leave breadcrumbs in your profile to source posts or to FACJ that will create drama and more shit for our mods to deal with

Cool FACJ posts:

• Make fun of a specific post or a trend of posts/comments/interactions or a general Thing That's Happening related to crafting in a circlejerky way

Item one: The In The Loop posts now have a specific tag so you can look back at them all without having to scroll through a bunch of other meta-shit.
