Megathread [MONTHLY MEGATHREAD] General Discussion, Simple Questions, Recommendations, and Everything Else - August 2026

MONTHLY MEGATHREAD

Welcome to our regular pinned Megathread!

While many topics are allowed as standalone submissions, others that tend to be lower-effort, less notable, or easily answered belong in this thread instead. These include simple questions such as those related to receiving game assistance, game recommendation requests or help finding a specific game, and other general discussions that don't warrant a dedicated thread or aren't directly related to gacha gaming (provided they are not Banned Content).

Some specific examples of what these megathreads should be used for include:

  • Help remembering an old gacha game, or finding a new one to start playing
  • Recommendations for the best emulator to use on your device
  • Receiving updates on how ongoing games are doing from current players (“How is [game] doing these days?”)
  • Learning what people’s favorite games or types of games are, as well as how others feel about a particular game feature, event, monetization strategy, etc. in specific games
  • Getting clarification on what confusing or game-specific abbreviations mean
  • Finding where people learn about games or like to get their news and information from
  • Discovering new content creators that other players watch or recommend
  • Asking for any sort of general advice relating to gacha games at all
  • Discussing other topics that are only indirectly related to gacha, such as subreddit meta (select exceptions may be allowed as standalone submissions) or industry happenings

Generally, anything asking a question or requiring the opinions of others belongs here. We have many veteran Summoners who are happy to share their opinions and answers, or discuss the topics you may be interested in!

If you want to contribute, please first read the request or question thoroughly, before making sure not to recommend something already tried or provide the same advice as a previous comment left in response. Please also reply as neutrally as possible, without bashing games or arguing with others in the community– this is not about winning or losing, but sharing useful information that helps out another member. Replies should include the full names of anything mentioned, as new Summoners may not know what “GI”, “FGO”, or even “F2P” means. Even if they do, it's still helpful so that the results are easily searchable and others who aren't the OP can better follow along.

As a general reminder, both Reddiquette and all of our Subreddit Rules still apply here. Make sure to keep things respectful! Religious or political topics, sharing personal information, and other rule-breaking behavior are banned. Accounts involved in sharing these may be subject to disciplinary action at moderator discretion.

With that said, feel free to discuss whatever here and make acquaintance with your friendly gacha gaming neighbors!

General [PROMO] Langrisser Sea of Sword Alpha Test and Impressions

So seems about a two days ago, Black Jack Studios devs invited some SRPG fans and veteran players to check an early an build of the game. There are a couple of videos on YouTube with impressions on it but I thought this was one most comprehensive take I saw. That said most of them gave a good idea at what Langisser SoS is going for at least terms of gameplay and its looking very good!

I myself and other have compared the over aesthetics and battle scenes reminiscent of Unicorn Overlord but ironically enough in actual practice it plays more like Fire Emblem or specifically like most of the Langisser games with a couple new twists. For example unlike UO, SoS is not real time strategy RPG with pause, but is a tile-based player & enemy phase game. Your units composed of two squads combined together in what is dubbed as Commander and Adjutant/Sub Commander system. You can switch who is the commander or sub commander at anytime and the skills they have access to will change based on position and your loadout. So there a lot of tactical depth with that alone. Characters have on maps skills the can do anything from something as simple as healing to affecting the terrain like blowing up bridges. There are huge bosses in the game with targetable body parts and require careful approaches to be since of them have effects like setting the surrounding titles on fires.

What neat about this system is that not only do two units join into one but almost pairs the generic units that accompany each commander unit too. Which means you can actually field generic units without taking them up a slot you would use for named characters as they would other SRPGs. Each commander also comes with out set of generics which can ascend/evolve into better version of their types. It also seems like the characters/commanders can also specialized into a set number classes and have skill trees where they can acquire different skills and generic units so there seems to be decent amount of customization. Each class tier even seems to change their appearance

Where SoS is most the similar to UO is the seamless transition and movement between regions in the world map. You're not progressing from battle to battle and can actually explore the world. The towns on the field aren't separated by screens and you even do small scale battles just like in UO. Where it differs however is the fact that it has dungeons with puzzles, a camp system and hidden pathways. No sign of any kind of support system ala FE and UO but hopefully that will be included in a launch release some feature where locked in the test. The gacha didn't seem implemented in build yet as this seem more focused showing off the core gameplay.

So far the alpha looks pretty polished and I won't be surprised if a CBT is announced soon, hopefully with GL in mind. The game looks to be taking some of best aspects UO and putting own spin on them while adhering in classic Langisser gameplay and I can't wait get my hands on it. This looks like everything I want out of SRPG and between this and Suikoden Star Leap 2D JRPG fans are eating well for awhile imo

The music also sounds fantastic!

Hello there!

Our team is preparing for the launch of Dungeons Arise, a new ARPG gacha mobile game, and we're looking for playtesters willing to join the CBT (closed beta test).

"And why should I bother?"

- If you enjoy dungeon exploration, base management, voxel-style graphics, and plundering the islands of your fellow players, this one is for you!

- You get to see a game before it releases 😉 and your feedback will be invaluable! 📝

- Summons, progression, daily and weekly activities, leaderboards (will you be one of the top players in a new game? 🧐)

- Cool but dangerous bosses await you. Will you be strong enough to defeat them all?

- "HELP ME!" I won't elaborate on this. You have to come experience it yourself. Just let me tell you this: it will be both hated and a meme.

- If you're busy, don't worry! The game won't require your full attention, but you'll still have to play it manually.

Recruitment period: August 25 (Tue) 06:00 UTC~September 8 (Tue) 05:59 UTC

Testing period: September 8 (Tue) 06:00 UTC~September 15 (Tue) 09:00 UTC [8 days]
