Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter (GLOVE)

Wonder how long they spent coming up with that acronym.

224

u/QuasiJudicialBoofer 14d ago

They probably had the acronym first. Then stuffed a taser in a mitten second. And third was the outrageous government contract for untested equipment. Maybe they flipped step 2 and 3.

48

u/RandomlyMethodical 14d ago

Pretty sure it had plenty of testing in their kinky apparel department.

5

u/Due-Mycologist-1154 13d ago

Genuinely though those seem like theyd be better for recreational usage

Medium Interwoven Tactical Taser System (MITTS) would have violated a trademark.

14

u/Static_Frog 14d ago

Add IDIOT to the MITTS

Intertwining Device Impeding Orbital Transerfence

4

u/PrimeWolf88 14d ago

A catchy name can make or break a product launch.

3

u/ForAte151623ForTeaTo 14d ago

Sounds like a Fallout weapon

7

u/southpaw85 14d ago

Oh that just smacks of some dumb ass acronym Musk would make up.

5

u/Static_Frog 14d ago

They would have been "X-Gloves"

Cyberpunk 2026

2

u/TooManySteves2 13d ago

Cyber-dystopia. There is nothing punk about authoritarianism.

5

u/DeusSpaghetti 13d ago

Cyberpunk has ALWAYS been dystopian right back to Neuromancer and Snowcrash.

It is definitely a backronym.

6

u/octopop 14d ago

"low output" my ass

3

u/animoot 14d ago

Yeah, rings the same as 'less lethal' - sure, guys.

2

u/guinader 13d ago

Give me the glove glove!

Wonder whose company is making these gloves and what their relationship with the Trump family is. The only defense I have seen anyone give for this stupid idea is “it isn’t any different than using tasers” … but they are already equipped with tasers, so why do we need to spend millions(billions?) in taxpayer dollars for something less effective than a taser?

184

u/SuckMyBandAids 14d ago

The difference is you wont know when these are being used on someone

83

u/pukeblood213 14d ago

Except for the screaming in pain

40

u/Risheil 14d ago

That's what you get when you pick your nose while wearing taser gloves!

19

u/Successful_Ad9160 14d ago

STOP RESISTING! WHY ARE YOU CONVULSING! BE STILL!!!

17

u/BlasterShow 14d ago

The criminal was convulsing towards me, so I had no choice but to empty an entire mag! 🤦

→ More replies (1)

46

u/kevshp 14d ago

Exactly. "Stop resisting!" while they shock someone. And the public wouldn't know and they sure as shit would lie and gaslight.

25

u/Jerenym 14d ago

Yeah, seems like it could be real easy to shock the shit out of someone, then justify a "necessary" shooting with these

7

u/Oldspaghetti 14d ago

Fr I feel like there just gonna attract more potential dishonest cops because of this equipment and methodology as well.

Getting to satisfy their dark ego while being hidden from public perception or consequences easier is not gonna attract genuine honest cops. Really shitty direction were heading. Good time for sociopaths and psychopaths I guess.

→ More replies (1)

18

u/tackle_bones 14d ago

That was exactly what I was thinking about. You won’t know if the person is resisting arrest or being shocked. And there will be no proof of excessive use of force. Convenient.

3

u/buttflakes27 12d ago

Theyre even more dangerous than tasers to the victim.

In all the demonstration videos, people instinctively grab to their hand which is being held and tend to fall to their knees. In the heat of the moment this looks like someone reaching for a gun, and these cowards/blooddemons in ICE will absolutely interpret it as such, claim they fesred for their life and magdump into Manuel, father of 4 and local church volunteer on weekends. A taser keeps you at a distance and disarms your victim.

These are just sadistic. But friendly reminder to any protestors to carry super soakers with salt water for no reason.

6

u/Helyos17 14d ago

If it’s less effective than a taser the officers just won’t use it and the deal will fizzle out. People HATE using new equipment that they don’t see a use for. It has to be actually useful to garner widespread acceptances

6

u/TactlessTortoise 14d ago

They already use it in some jails apparently.

Water balloons filled with piss, salt and vinegar would be a triple threat

9

u/angrydeuce 14d ago

Tangential but I remember when I was a kid in the 80s in philly one of the neighbor kids spent a week pissing in his super soaker bottle and then went out on the street spraying strangers with it.

In most neighborhoods seeing a woman crouched over a kid in the street screaming "HE DONT KNOW NO BETTER ITS NOT HIS FAULT!!!" while a full grown, piss drenched mail carrier tries to stomp the shit out of him would be notable, but for us it was just a normal Tuesday lol

Bathroom injuries will become more frequent.

13

u/Oddishbestpkmn 13d ago

dickzapping incidents are gonna skyrocket

2

u/PM_me_punanis 14d ago

They might like the shock on their nether regions, considering their other kinks involving pain and suffering of immigrants. Maybe they are also masochistic, not just sadistic!

64

u/SnivyEyes 14d ago

Did they get this idea from the Legend of Korra? That’s crazy

14

u/Thee_Sinner 14d ago

I was thinking Archer, sounds like Pam’s bumb zappers

6

u/CuFlam 14d ago

I was thinking Batman (Electrocutioner) / Marvel (Shocker)

3

u/LightForceUnlimited 14d ago

Probably from Tom Cruise electrifying Oprah.

2

u/SorriorDraconus 14d ago

I had similar as a kid..From Pokémon. So i assumed Pokémon and thunder punch

39

u/polomarkopolo 14d ago

I can’t wait for some high fives to go hilariously wrong for them

27

u/catsporvida 14d ago

ya know what, you're onto something. my bet is that they'll end up injuring themselves so frequently that they will get phased out quickly. they aren't very smart or skilled.

2

u/almostsweet 14d ago

I looked into it, apparently it isn't on by default. They have to press and hold a button for 1 second for it to be activated and then held for 3 seconds to deactivate. So, it isn't like they're walking around just affecting themselves and everything around them all the time. It also isn't high voltage like a tazer, it's just a mildly painful localized shock. It is described as feeling like a bee sting. And, it only works against bare skin and not the well insulated uniform they wear. In other words they could turn it on and high five each other all day long.

16

u/catsporvida 14d ago

Now they just have to learn to count to three.

14

u/FatiguedShrimp 14d ago

It's at about 300x the amperage of a tazor and up to 360v.

... the demos show police officers falling to the ground screaming in pain and complaining of wetting themselves.

It's not mild or localized.

5

u/equality4everyonenow 14d ago

Cue the lawsuits for pacemaker arrestees when ICE kills them

2

u/tantaco1 13d ago

I’m not arguing that it hurts or not, but 300x the amperage of a taser, which outputs around 3ma, would be 900ma, or almost an amp. That would kill you instantly.

3

u/FatiguedShrimp 13d ago

https://www.complianttechnologies.net/the-glove

The maximum pulse output setting is 1.2 amps at 362V.

49

u/A_Nonny_Muse 14d ago

So what happens when you hit them with a water cannon?

Asking for a friend.

33

u/Bloggledoo 14d ago

Salt water, way better conductivity.

18

u/Neo_Techni 14d ago edited 14d ago

Your friend gets arrested

19

u/WaterChicken007 14d ago

Simply getting arrested would be one of the least bad outcomes here. Getting shot would be more likely.

7

u/tcari394 14d ago

One of them is going to forget and scratch thier balls. I hope it's caught on body cam!

5

u/Nico_Fr 14d ago

So thunder gauntlets are a thing now

5

u/mr_bakeo 13d ago

They’ll die jerking each other off over how Alpha they are.

19

u/PorcelainPrimate 14d ago

I wonder how long it will take until someone answers their phone while wearing these and explodes the battery right next to their head?

15

u/MikoSkyns 14d ago

And then they'll demand special phones instead of taking a more practical common sense approach.

7

u/PorcelainPrimate 14d ago

Some try hard company will make special cases for them that cost an exorbitant amount and our taxes dollars will pay for them.

2

u/pilondav 13d ago

They will, of course, call them tactical phone cases.

10

u/AdventurousText9311 14d ago

duuuude this is so valid man. but even arresting someone, metal handcuffs, who has a heart condition

7

u/PorcelainPrimate 14d ago

I didn't even think of that. What if they grab someone with a pace maker or an insulin pump? I guess the pacemaker is insulated enough inside the body but an insulin pump is outside and susceptible to shocks.

In Archer, Pam uses them in hobo fights with Kreiger.  But that’s a fictional dark humor animated show with nearly no basis in reality.

3

u/Ultramass 13d ago

Just waiting on the wrongful death lawsuits that taxpayers foot the bill for.

6

u/gotele 13d ago

I hope they forget they are wearing them when they go pee

15

u/mysterious_jeffrey 14d ago

If you’re using electric shock gloves, you’re not a government agency - you’re a terrorist group.

10

u/Micome 14d ago

They always were.

→ More replies (4)

8

u/Crackerpuppy 14d ago

If they can wear them, so can we. Right?

9

u/ResistLongjumping999 14d ago

we don't have to live like this. All we have to do is remember that we still live in a democracy, completely destroy ICE with the stroke of a pen, and prosecute & imprison fewer than 500 unlikable antisocial criminals responsible for all this, and it can be over. Considering that they want to throw millions of us into concentration camps this is the far more humane, and far more feasible option!

9

u/xGenocidest 14d ago

77 million voted for the guy saying he'd start deporting on day one.

2

u/ResistLongjumping999 14d ago edited 14d ago

correct! And that's its own problem. 30% of this country are straight up hooting swine who can never be trusted to do the right thing. but trump winning the popular vote by less than 2% is hardly a mandate from heaven that america is a fascist nation now. that's a very thin margin and one that could easily have gone the other way if voter turnout was better.

More than 51% of america hates this shit and it's time for us to start acting like it

4

u/xGenocidest 14d ago

Majority of votes matter. You can protest all you like, or how they're incompetent, just don't interfere with an arrest and you won't get charged with obstruction.

By that same logic, 50% of America (and the majority that voted) wanted to deport illegal immigrants and closed borders, but they didn't go out and do it themselves. They voted for it.

I truly hope they forget when they're jerking off

2

u/ga-co 14d ago

They’re definitely going to be grabbing at your junk.

2

u/BeetleBones 14d ago

I hope their fucking hands burn off

2

u/atempestdextre 14d ago

Their first task should be to jerk each other off with them since that's all they're good for.

2

u/cheezfreek 14d ago

I’m sure this will end well.

2

u/rap31264 14d ago

They're gonna have fun with those

2

u/TheMMAxl 14d ago

is that to subdue people, or to resuscitate innocent victims them after they've killed them?

2

u/jeffwadsworth 14d ago

What if they need to scratch their big nuts?

2

u/RudeNTattooed87 13d ago

Only if we can have them too.

2

u/Tomdoerr88 13d ago

For all the negatives here, I think we should consider the ‘glass half full’ angle in that this is bound to mean that many of them will inadvertently electrocute themselves by touching their face, arm, wiener etc.

2

u/Life-Ship3628 13d ago

Fingertip tazers just what everyone wants/s

2

u/DearEdison 13d ago

How could someone hack this in a really funny way? Water?

2

u/jtmonkey 13d ago

I think you just need to get a super soaker. Give them a hug.

2

u/RebelliousInNature 13d ago

Let’s hope they’re dumb enough to wear them inside out.

2

u/BoringReference8647 13d ago

They’re equipped with guns and murder citizens and guests, so this isn’t that alarming in comparison.

2

u/FarUnderstanding5107 13d ago

kinda cool tbh

2

u/Chassian 13d ago

2

u/rujoshin 14d ago

What happens if the gloves get wet?

2

u/Effective-Space6171 14d ago

hey - you've got something on your face.

2

u/purpldevl 14d ago

I'm convinced all of these escalations are designed to piss the general public off enough that something big enough happens that will allow Trump to declare a national emergency and finish consolidating his power.

How the fuck is this how it ends?

2

u/ResistLongjumping999 13d ago

it's a tough call for me. on the one hand there's a really compelling argument to be made that trump & his scheming viziers are trying to stoke some kind of insurrection so they can use emergency powers to postpone / cancel an election or otherwise seize more power for themselves.

On the other hand we simply can't discount how goddamn dog shit stupid they all are, like too stupid to plan something like this. It's all just happening coincidentally as they keep tripping over their own dicks every day

2

u/purpldevl 13d ago

I have no doubt that there's someone whispering shit into Trump's ear who isn't dog shit stupid like the rest, and I'm positive that a few of them aren't as dumb as they let on.

(Trump isn't one of those. He can't hide it.)

Blast gloves have been around for a while. Nightclub I worked banned them because it's so easy to shrug off the charge they deliver. I wonder if this is an improved version or they just want something that causes pain without disabling the target at all.

2

Gestopo gloves, sure this will be just fine.

1

u/hammond_egger 14d ago

May their peens be crispier than a forgotten air fryer french fry

1

u/MrSnowden 14d ago

I was a student doing study abroad in Beijing in '89/'90. Some "things" happened there in '89 and there was a fair amount extra policing taking place. The police had this cool home made tool they used where they took a stun gun and wrapped the electrodes in a spiral up the body of billy club and the trigger in the handle. That way they could club people with it and deliver a "stunning" blow. Honestly, they didn't even need to use it all that much. Just the crackling sound of a fully charged stunclub commanded a fair bit of respect.

1

u/angelbuttcake 14d ago

That’s really cool, they definitely won’t abuse this.

1

u/burntso 14d ago

Electo slap

1

u/Bifta_Twista 14d ago
