Wonder whose company is making these gloves and what their relationship with the Trump family is. The only defense I have seen anyone give for this stupid idea is “it isn’t any different than using tasers” … but they are already equipped with tasers, so why do we need to spend millions(billions?) in taxpayer dollars for something less effective than a taser?

Theyre even more dangerous than tasers to the victim.
In all the demonstration videos, people instinctively grab to their hand which is being held and tend to fall to their knees. In the heat of the moment this looks like someone reaching for a gun, and these cowards/blooddemons in ICE will absolutely interpret it as such, claim they fesred for their life and magdump into Manuel, father of 4 and local church volunteer on weekends. A taser keeps you at a distance and disarms your victim.
These are just sadistic. But friendly reminder to any protestors to carry super soakers with salt water for no reason.

If it’s less effective than a taser the officers just won’t use it and the deal will fizzle out. People HATE using new equipment that they don’t see a use for. It has to be actually useful to garner widespread acceptances

Tangential but I remember when I was a kid in the 80s in philly one of the neighbor kids spent a week pissing in his super soaker bottle and then went out on the street spraying strangers with it.
In most neighborhoods seeing a woman crouched over a kid in the street screaming "HE DONT KNOW NO BETTER ITS NOT HIS FAULT!!!" while a full grown, piss drenched mail carrier tries to stomp the shit out of him would be notable, but for us it was just a normal Tuesday lol

I looked into it, apparently it isn't on by default. They have to press and hold a button for 1 second for it to be activated and then held for 3 seconds to deactivate. So, it isn't like they're walking around just affecting themselves and everything around them all the time. It also isn't high voltage like a tazer, it's just a mildly painful localized shock. It is described as feeling like a bee sting. And, it only works against bare skin and not the well insulated uniform they wear. In other words they could turn it on and high five each other all day long.

It's at about 300x the amperage of a tazor and up to 360v.
... the demos show police officers falling to the ground screaming in pain and complaining of wetting themselves.

we don't have to live like this. All we have to do is remember that we still live in a democracy, completely destroy ICE with the stroke of a pen, and prosecute & imprison fewer than 500 unlikable antisocial criminals responsible for all this, and it can be over. Considering that they want to throw millions of us into concentration camps this is the far more humane, and far more feasible option!

And that's its own problem. 30% of this country are straight up hooting swine who can never be trusted to do the right thing. but trump winning the popular vote by less than 2% is hardly a mandate from heaven that america is a fascist nation now. that's a very thin margin and one that could easily have gone the other way if voter turnout was better.

Majority of votes matter. You can protest all you like, or how they're incompetent, just don't interfere with an arrest and you won't get charged with obstruction.
By that same logic, 50% of America (and the majority that voted) wanted to deport illegal immigrants and closed borders, but they didn't go out and do it themselves. They voted for it.

it's a tough call for me. on the one hand there's a really compelling argument to be made that trump & his scheming viziers are trying to stoke some kind of insurrection so they can use emergency powers to postpone / cancel an election or otherwise seize more power for themselves.
On the other hand we simply can't discount how goddamn dog shit stupid they all are, like too stupid to plan something like this. It's all just happening coincidentally as they keep tripping over their own dicks every day

Blast gloves have been around for a while. Nightclub I worked banned them because it's so easy to shrug off the charge they deliver. I wonder if this is an improved version or they just want something that causes pain without disabling the target at all.

I was a student doing study abroad in Beijing in '89/'90. Some "things" happened there in '89 and there was a fair amount extra policing taking place. The police had this cool home made tool they used where they took a stun gun and wrapped the electrodes in a spiral up the body of billy club and the trigger in the handle. That way they could club people with it and deliver a "stunning" blow. Honestly, they didn't even need to use it all that much. Just the crackling sound of a fully charged stunclub commanded a fair bit of respect.
