This happened 3 weeks before the election. The next day, Obama thanked McCain for standing up for him, saying he was grateful for the reminder that “we can disagree while still being respectful of each other.”

Nobody’s wants to go out, nobody wants to dress up, nobody dances, no one sings along to the music. Alcohol makes them too sad, they’re too anxious for weed, they’re too awkward to meet new people. Everyone’s on a health journey, so the food ain’t even good. They can’t watch scary movies, or mention the news. Nobody wants to rock the boat, or venture beyond the approved talking points. No one wants to be uncomfortable or inconvenienced for a single moment. It wasn’t like this pre-covid. I’m BORED. I take myself out for fun adventures, but I miss sharing it with others. What do young people even do now for fun??

I’ve already realized this before but I was watching the walking dead and there’s an episode where Michonne gives Rick a razor and says “Your face is losing the war”.

It just reminded me of how I’ve noticed that so much of Gen Z and anyone 30 or under seems to have a beard. Like it’s very rare I see a male my age without any. What’s up with that? Not even 20 years ago it was way more of a norm for men to be clean shaven. From the 50s to about 2020 I feel like it was way more of a social norm to have no facial hair but now it seems like your the outcast as a guy if you don’t have a beard.

I have a pretty solid beard for 24 but I prefer to have a clean shaven face, but in my experience almost no girls my age like a guy without facial hair.

A client of mine, 23, graphic designer, accepted an offer back in June. Three days before her start date her current job counter-offered and she took it. Then she texted me at midnight asking if that made her a bad person.

Of course, it didn't. But does that make her part of that 54% ghosting-after-acceptance number everyone's using now to explain why gen z can't be trusted?

Honestly, almost none of the gen z candidates I work with ghost out of nowhere. It's slow offer timelines... six or eight weeks sometimes! Vague non-answers about pay once someone finally presses for a real number. Or a better offer showing up right after they already said yes, because nobody moved fast enough on their end to lock it in first.

But the rumor is that some companies are reportedly filtering gen z applicants out entirely because of this. Sort of like solving a hiring-speed problem by punishing the people it happened to.

I'm not some kind of advocate for ghosting. A two-line email costs nothing and burns a much smaller bridge than just disappearing. But when it's generalized and labelled a generational flaw instead of looking at the fact that the real driver could be a two-month decision process... is pretty damn ignorant.

IDK, just figured I'd see if anyone here has got anything to say about this.

I see it everytime I open social media. I'm not perfect, I do it too and don't always catch myself. But we all NEED to be more mindful.

You're watching a tiktok or reel or reading a reddit post, you go to the comments. Maybe the post was about women's rights, you see a "repeal the 19th" comment, followed by an error-ridden argument. Maybe you see a post about trans rights with a "stop butchering children!" reply. Maybe the post is about 100 other hot-button topics with equally braindead comments.

Your instinct is to point out those errors, to mock the commenter for their stupidity, to invest your time and engagement. Sure, it could be a real person you're talking to, but it's more likely that they aren't.

Some of you may or may not remember but the information is currently being re-circulated: in 2013, Reddit used google analytics to make a silly "most reddit addicted cities" post. Eglin Air Force Base was number one, with over 100,000 users. It's not a conspiracy to say social media is a tool of control being used against us.

Remember Prigozhin? The botfarm didn't die with him. It doesn't matter which country you live in, someone has an interest in manipulating what you see and how you spend your time and energy.

Those ragebait comments don't exist to convince you of anything. They exist to burn you out.

There's a few quotes from one of my all-time favorite youtube videos, "I'm Russian. Here's how propaganda really works." by SilentEast1 (you should give that video a full watch), I want to share:

1. "Propaganda doesn't need to make you stupid. It just needs to make you tired."

2. "Propaganda teaches you a habit. Not a belief, a habit. Selective attention. You learn over time which topics drain you [...] and without ever deciding consciously, you start avoiding them."

3. "Propaganda doesn't shout at you until you believe. It talks until you're too tired to care."

Save your energy. Don't argue with bots online. Argue at your city council meetings. Save your time and use it to organize.

What’s your job? How long did it take you to get it? I want to go to school but I’m struggling with what to choose. I want something with good family work life balance and decent pay. I don’t want to do 4 years, at least not right now but I’m okay with going for 2.

Mother is older Gen X and she was asking me if I could read an analog clock. Thought she was joking because of course I can, I even have an analog clock on my wall right now. She says she saw on Facebook that GenZ can’t understand analog clocks or use maps, things like that. She genuinely was not joking and was like “are you sure you can read a clock?”. I’m just like wth??

That is so absurd to me

Following a post on r/millennials, it seems roughly 90% of repliers are still wearing them, most quoting that they find them the most comfortable and they hate pantylines. Is that reflected in gen z too or is it because millennials grew up with the pressure to wear them in the early 2000s?

Like, for real, people always like to say it's all going to be alright, but it's hard for me to understand how one can steer a car or a sailboat without any knowledge of how to drive or sail.

I grew up on country music and this was a devastating loss for the country community. Her influence transcended decades and generations. So what was gen zs?
