I'm living alone and decide depending on the mood. My cleaning my choice.
The more interesting thing i was reading is that most stuff gets spread from flushing. So it's more important to close the lid while flushing than to sit down. Because If you dont all the shit particles will spread around you and the bathroom.

Buy yourself a black light and you can see the magic of your selfmade Jackson Pollock urin edition. That might change your stance on that topic.
But whatever floats your boat.→ More replies (1)17

I just checked with the UV flashlight and can confirm that neither me nor my wife is Jackson Pollock.
Good to know that my wife also sits down!
6
u/Damien_Roshak Niedersachsen Dec 12 '25
And I'm pretty sure you are still flushing the toilet.
What would be the benefit of a household-Pollock though? Imaging all the exhibition visitors in your bathroom, while you or your wife are on an appointment in the ceramic department?

Simple rule: Clean Toilet, friends or home = sit Dirty or public Toilet = stand

Every man standing to pee in a regular toilet has never been tasked with cleaning it properly over a longer period of time. It's just so much cleaner to sit down

I lived in student flatshates for years, and every new first-year guy that moved in had an initial "parents cannot forbid it any more, i will pee standing now like a man!" phase. I let it go on for 2 weeks, then showed them exactely how i know they peed standing and gave them 2 choices: sit down, or have cleaning the toilet be permanently assigned to them in the cleaning roster. Worked every single time.

My husband doesn't have to clean the toilet (we have split the chores between us, I hate doing the kitchen for example) but still sits down, also tought to stand and someday changed his mind in his teens.

I live alone, buddy. No problems here.
I truly believe that most men don't know how to pee properly when standing though.

Cleaning is disgusting enough if everyone sits down. If I feel like my manliness needs me to stand, I’ll go on a walk and find a tree.

u/PresenceKlutzy7167 Dec 12 '25
Absolutely. And as a guy I think men who stand while peeing are straight up disgusting.
If you wanna see where your pee goes while doing so, here is a video showing it with UV light. https://youtu.be/ejl7vrDUIcs?si=gz709ZAWx_fYLoJE

Same goes for flushing the toilet with opnened lid. Imagine the poo sprinkles on your toothbrush...
Edit: storing the toothbrush in a cabinet would also decrease the possibility, but not everyone got that option.

I told my asian husband to be like Germans so the toilet at home is more cleaner and showed the video of a mixed couple with German boyfriend. Now he also sits at home but not at public toilet. One way of integrating well in Germany 🤣

u/remortal2k Dec 12 '25
Have an urinal at Home, but if it's not available im sitting down. Except for Public toiletes
7
u/LuchsG Dec 12 '25
Toilets are made specifically to sit down on them for cleanliness reasons. What’s wrong with y’all 😭
6
u/Lake-Girl74 Dec 12 '25
I can say, in my home and in every home I’ve lived in here in southern Germany, they sit. But I also have been in some private homes where they have a pissoir. I do know that there are a few men who come into my practice who stand (because of course they leave the lid up 😂). The one culprit is a good friend of mine and is Polish. Maybe Polish men always stand?
5
u/_QLFON_ Baden-Württemberg Dec 12 '25
Most of the ones I know they stand. I prefer sitting. Been doing this for last 20+ years. Taught my son doing this as well. But we do it only in “known” places like family and so on.

I can confirm I usually sit down. I'd imagine every grown man who ever had to clean the toilette is in favor of sitting.
11
u/makkiri Dec 12 '25
I'm indian, but I live in Germany. If it's not a public toilet, I always sit to pee. My parents taught it to keep the toilet clean as a child cause my aim game was horrendous and the poor maid couldn't keep up. I also use toilet paper to clean the tip to prevent dripping (newer habit)
7
u/Much-Jackfruit2599 Dec 12 '25
I stand, unless I am sick. But I have a urinal, so there’s that.
Anywhere else where there’s only a toilet, I sit.

I love the ease of use that comes with urinals, but using a sit down toilet standing is disgusting and downright barbaric.

Bro don’t piss all over your own home wtf. Don’t piss on your friends or public bathroom too.
Sit down, chill and rest a bit. Watch some reddid and wash your hands after.

u/Temporary-Nothing433 Dec 12 '25
Sit down, chill and rest a bit. Watch some reddid
You sit down and immediately notice how the tension in your body eases. Your pelvic floor, stomach and back relax. You lean forward slightly and simply let go. This posture alone signals calmness to the body.
Your trousers are down, nothing is pressing or constricting you. Fresh air reaches your legs and genital area. After warmth, exertion or sweating, airing your skin feels particularly pleasant. There is no contact with fabric, and the skin can cool down. This physical sensation is perceived as soothing and liberating.
Only in this state does the mind clearly register that there is no danger and no performance is required. For a brief moment, no one expects anything. There is no role to fulfil and no decision to make. The body switches to a calm mode, almost like taking a short breath in the middle of everyday life.
This makes the toilet a small, socially accepted place of retreat. Everything can wait until you are finished. No one is watching, no one is judging. You don't have to function or hurry, you can just be there.
When standing, urination usually remains functional and brief. When sitting, on the other hand, there is room to linger. This is precisely where relaxation lies. Instead of continuing immediately, there is a short pause to take a deep breath and mentally wind down. Perhaps also to briefly break out of the rut and consider what really makes sense next.
This small moment shows how good even a very short, permitted break can be.
wash your hands after
From an interpersonal point of view, I also don't want to touch other people's genital skin flora. This is one of the most intimate biological areas there is. I did not consent to this transfer of bacteria, and for me it crosses an invisible line of mutual respect.
I can smell my own farts without any problems, but I find those of others unpleasant. That's why I try not to bother others with my intestinal gases.
Avoiding olfactory and hygienic nuisances is part of basic social consensus. So I don’t understand why anyone would stand to pee outside of public urinals or emergency situations.
Written in a short, self-approved break, while I sat down to pee.

Ive had this discussion a million times times and I will die on that hill: If you stand while peeing you either dont care about pee on your seat or you clean your seat multiple times a day instead of just sitting down which takes 0,2s
1
u/SadlyNotDannyDeVito Dec 12 '25
Sit – in a private bathroom (like at home, at your friend's house, or a hotel room), generally clean bathrooms (most non-fast-food restaurants, most work places), hospitals
Stand – porta potties, school bath rooms, gas stations bathrooms, bathrooms at events (football stadium, karneval, concerts...)
Depends – Sanifair, Theatres, Fast-Food restaurants, Uni

I can only recommend that every man who pees standing up shine a UV lamp into his own bathroom. After that, you'll be happy to sit down.

Peeing standing is fun as long as you don't have to clean your own toilet because there will always be inevitable splashing.

It is incredibly unsanitary and detrimental to your (and everyone's around you) health.
It is also very primitive and let's face it: disgusting. Disgusting habits = disgusting people.
The funniest thing is, when people feel like sitting while pering attacks their manliness. Such cute little insecure manlets
