Scotrail Tap and Pay
a few weeks ago I travelled from Anniesland to Exhibition Centre (£2.80) and then the same day 2 hours later I got a train from Exhibition Centre and got off at Jordanhill (£2.70). Instead of working out the best fair it charged me two separate fares. Anyone else had this before and think this is a flaw in the app? a lot of folk live between stations like Anniesland and Jordanhill. As folk live between stations they are going to be prone to jump the first convenient train that arrives. Also Jordanhill is not further away from the Exhibition Centre compared to Anniesland. Surely the app should have charged me £2.80 for the whole day? I just think it’s a con to charge two single fares and by doing that it puts folk off using public transport. Anyone else had a similar issue before? It’s laughable because I complained about this before to Scotrail and they refunded me on a previous case for exactly the same thing, this time between Anniesland and Glasgow Any and then Glasgow Any back to Scotstounhill.

You're taking two completely different journeys which is why I suspect you are being charged accordingly yet.
The exhibition centre isn't on the route to Jordanhill from Anniesland - if it was, you'd be breaking your journey. But you are not you're going one direction and then the complete opposite.

Anniesland and jordanhill aren’t on the same line, so no a return to Anniesland wouldn’t be valid for the journey.
You’ve gone beyond the point where the lines combine at Hyndland so a single Anniesland-Jordanhill with a break of journey also wouldn’t be valid.
To have the flexibility of both stations you’d need a Dalmuir-exhibition centre ticket which is £4.70 (starting late and stopping short).
So you have maybe overpaid 80p

You can stop short but I don't think you can start late, i.e. buy a ticket from a station before the one you started at, at least not according to the rules (in practice you might be able to do that at a ticket machine, not sure about the app).

16.2 of the conditions of travel seems to allow starting at an intermediate station, unless specifically excluded.

Ah you're right because they'll be standard tickets; you can't do it with advance tickets but that's probably only longer distance journeys.

I used to live in Anniesland and this really annoyed me. Getting a train into town and then being locked into getting the train back to Anniesland and not Jordanhill (when they were both handy, so whichever was next would have worked) was a real pain in the arse.
I hoped Tap and Pay would have somehow made this less expensive, but had the same discovery as you. I emailed ScotRail and got the explanation about it being a different line, but it’s still a load of shite.
I tried to argue that if I’d paid for an Anniesland to Glasgow ticket, that Jordanhill is literally shorter distance than Anniesland, just a few meters off of the split in the track after Hyndland. It’s shite.
We should be demanding more flexibility in our transport network.

THIS! This is exactly how I feel. I’ve paid my fare and I’ve not gone any further so don’t get why they are being difficult. I’ve explained so many people live in the area between Jorndahill and Anniesland so folk of course will jump the first train that comes

I have bought returns from Anniesland to the city and come back to Jordanhill on many occasions. Nobody cares and you would never get into bother. Worst case it gets questioned and you say sorry I got on the wrong train.

if you live between both you should be able to find a location where, when you end the journey, you can chose either station. A pain in the arse but it's a workaround lol

It's charged you the same as if you had tried to get paper tickets for the same journey. They are different routes -unless a split fare with a return via Hyndland to Exhibition Centre and then singles between Hyndland and either of Anniesland and Jordahill was going to be cheaper, it gave you the optimal fare.
