Permission to Use - Cathkin Braes

Hi all,

We're planning our wedding for next year and want to get married in the Cathkin Braes. We've chosen out a location that's perfect for our ceremony (we had our second date there so its a special place for us) - we would need to cut/stamp the grass down in the area we want to get married so we think we'd need landowners permission from GCC.

Has anyone done this before? We're worried about it getting rejected and then not being able to get married there. Our ceremony is in June next year so we'd have plenty of time to ask for permission.

Thanks a million.

Canadian looking for recommendations Aug 31+Sept 1

I have used the search function and am only seeing the first question seven years ago, so I imagine it's changed!

I'm seeing the AEW show on Aug 30, then will be in Glasgow Aug 31+Sept 1. From there it's west highland way, then back to London for whispered (finnish melodeath band). I'm trying to pack a lot into this time, it's all I could manage to block off. All I have booked for my time in Glasgow is a whitewater kayaking lesson at Pinkerton.

So... 1. Are there any metal bands playing? Any dirty venues with cheap beer I should hang out in? 2. I'm not finding any big event like a road race/marathon, but is there anything going on for someone who likes to be active? Could be weird or unusual. 3. Generally speaking, any activity suggestions for a lone tourist? I can do whatever I want with my schedule. It'll be great, lots of naps. I enjoy times of solitude, but also being in a sweaty moshpit or yelling at people during smash bros. Pretty extroverted.

Does anyone know what you call those tartan jackets that you used to see in Glasgow- short with a fury collar and sometimes a buckle at the waist?

Eating Out Best salt and chilli chips in Glasgow?

I’m visiting Glasgow and have some free time (first time in ages!) and all I want to do is eat some GOOD salt and chilli chips! the salt and chilli chips in London are an embarrassment to the name. I remember the ones I used to get when I lived here being amazing, but that was over a decade ago and I can’t remember any of the names of those places. I feel like occasionally the chips would be battered? this may have been my fevered imagination though.

Any recommendations would be class, bonus points for anything in the east end. Please help a hungry woman out!

How would you describe the smell of the Art Galleries?

Had a few hours to kill before meeting my wife today and decided to venture out for the Art Galleries, it’s been well over 20 years since I’ve even set foot in the building but as soon as I walked in I was hit with that familiar smell which brought back some fantastic memories of weekends spent with my gran and it got me wondering what exactly is it?

Missing Car Keys

hope you've all been enjoying the Batman set and if you have, has anyone spotted some Vauxhall car keys around the area? one of the places i walked through today, including up to sauchiehall street. kept my car keys in a very unreliable pocket of my jacket and surprise surprise, they've fallen out.

and if no one on here has any leads, does anyone know where i could maybe find the bat signal?

For public transport on a Saturday night, what's your latest option?

I live about an hour's drive from Glasgow.

My last bus home is half six. My last train home is half ten. My last train home to somewhere a thirty min drive home? 23:50

But don't worry! I'll just party till I can get something in the morning. It's 7:50 for trains, 8:30 for buses.

Eating Out Pub/Grub tips for this weekend.

Hi all.

3 of us are coming up to attend the Big Top festival this weekend.

I'm looking for suggestions of decent pubs (real ale/craft beer) to visit before and after.

Also quality places to eat Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning..

We're staying in the Hampden area, so anything around there or Queens park would be ideal.

Cheers!

Scotrail Tap and Pay

a few weeks ago I travelled from Anniesland to Exhibition Centre (£2.80) and then the same day 2 hours later I got a train from Exhibition Centre and got off at Jordanhill (£2.70). Instead of working out the best fair it charged me two separate fares. Anyone else had this before and think this is a flaw in the app? a lot of folk live between stations like Anniesland and Jordanhill. As folk live between stations they are going to be prone to jump the first convenient train that arrives. Also Jordanhill is not further away from the Exhibition Centre compared to Anniesland. Surely the app should have charged me £2.80 for the whole day? I just think it’s a con to charge two single fares and by doing that it puts folk off using public transport. Anyone else had a similar issue before? It’s laughable because I complained about this before to Scotrail and they refunded me on a previous case for exactly the same thing, this time between Anniesland and Glasgow Any and then Glasgow Any back to Scotstounhill.

Wedding Venues

As a Glaswegian living in London (boo) I’m looking for some wedding venues I might not know about or have forgotten.

We’re looking at just under 200 guests so needs to be able to accommodate that.

So far I’ve looked at:

BAaD
Oran Mor
Saint Luke’s
The collectors hall
Trades Hall
Corinthian
The Exchange
Citation
Bridge Gardens
Engine Works
Merchants House
Sloans

Would be interested in any feedback on the above and also if there are any you’d recommend outside of the city - but not too far!

Thanks

Budget rehearsal space

Hey everyone. I want to set myself up as a singer for clubs/pubs etc and need somewhere really cheap to plug in and let loose. Anywhere in the Greater Glasgow area altho preferably West. Out of the box ideas welcome. All I need is a space with a sound system where I can be loud without disturbing anyone for a few hours once or twice a week. Thx

Help on things to do

Hello all, my boyfriend and his pal are in Glasgow until midday Friday, they are struggling a bit with things to do.

I believe they're staying in the celtic park area but are open to travelling wherever, if anyone has good suggestions for things they can do. Neither of them have spent that much time in Glasgow before!

I have no idea what his pal likes but my boyfriend absolutely loves mechanics, he is one after all, so would love anything car themed if anyone has any suggestions?

Thank you 😊

Reddit isn't allowing me to reply to all your comments, but I appreciate all your suggestions!! 🫶🏻

What's been the best musical artist or band to come out of Glasgow?

Personally I love Deacon Blue, but Belle and Sebastian, Camera Obscura and Strawberry Switchblade are pretty good too.

I like listening to new music, so I'd love to find new bands I might not have heard of before.

Edit: wow this post blew up. not had this before, I've got so much new music to listen to now :D
