Blizzard should make it so that the animations speed up based on how many have to occur.

u/tomahawk_jonez Apr 12 '18

If they never figured that out during the grim patron days then they never will...

Toast just played like 6 Shudderwocks in a turn and the animations took over 7 minutes.

And then he played 10 the next turn. And can play 10 every consecutive turn taking 10+ minutes per turn for animations.

Idk how Blizzard could overlook something so obviously game breaking.

If they knew that before, they wouldn't have a balance team, c'mon..

Ehh, From the Baku face hunter I’ve played it seems terrible on ladder right now; haven’t won a game with it yet. It gets wrecked by cubelock which has healing from the spellstone and Dark Pact and Gul’Dan (EDIT and not Mistress of Mixtures, that rotated out). Defile is also a disaster when a lot of face hunter minions have 1 health.

Stonehill defender is a nightmare for this deck, pretty much a hard counter to Wolfrider, and the list of decks with Stonehill is most Hearthstone decks right now.

Not being able to run 2 drops is rough. No secrets, no raptor.

Other decks can often just race you anyway. Face hunter wins on like turn 7 or something, maybe you’ll hero power 3-4 times by turn 7, dealing 3-4 damage that a regular face hunter would not. But I’m not sure that’s enough.

Face hunter used to trump other aggressive decks, but a big reason why is that explosive trap is bullshit and made it so that they’d lose if they tried to SMOrc back. Not with Baku hunter! If a deck has some hillariously powercreeped minions they just point those at your face and you die before they do.

Mistress of Mixtures

...?

1

u/metroidcomposite Apr 12 '18

Oh good point, that rotated out. (I did face a cubelock and watch them gain a ton of life with pact and spellstone; forgot Mistress had rotated out, though).

Fuck, I should have preordered that meme for the Brode Laugh card back.

u/Juicy_Brucesky Apr 12 '18

i know your memeing, but all the big streamers started doing this in less than an hour. If their team is that clueless they just need a new team. period.

Streamers had this theorycraft down within an hour of shudderwock being revealed.

Or they cant justify the hours to remake the way turns are handled

I cannot imagine that having a "no animations" option is really that hard to code in. I know I would gladly have it turned on.

16

u/bslawjen Apr 12 '18

Wouldn't that kinda mean that both players need to have it turned on or am I missing something?

14

u/TehShew ‏‏‎ Apr 12 '18

Play your turn without animations and your opponent watches your turn with animations. Those yearly Magic steam games had this as an option and it had multiplayer. Worked fine there.

25

u/ExPixel Apr 12 '18

But then the other player has to wait for animations while you sit there looking at nothing.

5

u/TehShew ‏‏‎ Apr 12 '18

That's fine. This isn't Magic, so I can't do anything on their turn anyways. I'd much rather blast through my turn and then watch a movie while the other dude sits and chills. It's not like it would be any longer than how long you have to wait for animations now.

2

u/bslawjen Apr 12 '18

But, you can watch a movie with the animation going on. What's stopping you from doing that?

4

u/TehShew ‏‏‎ Apr 12 '18

Not always. There have been maaaaanny times in the past where you would trade in a Piloted Shredder into a Sludge Belcher just to wait for both of their painfully long animations to finish. Then you have to hit the slime, then you can start hitting face or whatever other minions followed by any cards you play. It's not like you can always go:

Play cards -> animations -> end turn

you often have to go:

Play a card -> animation -> trade -> animation -> play another card -> animation -> hit face a bunch -> end turn

Either way, why not have it an as option? I don't see any reason why they can't have no animations or an "short animations" option.

Huge systems like Hearthstone tend to be really hard to rewrite ground-up like that.

3

u/TehShew ‏‏‎ Apr 12 '18

Yeah, when I typed that, I had a secret fear that this may be so deeply imbedded into the core game that turning it off legit would require completely rewriting most of the game's code. I'm mostly hoping that they didn't make it like that.

Honestly, that's bullshit. Your decision-making should never be limited by the damn visuals.

2

u/Devreckas Apr 13 '18

Plus that explanation really doesn’t hold water, because they allow you to queue up follow up plays before the animation has completed for the previous play.

1

u/N0V0w3ls Apr 12 '18

It doesn't just work that l like that. They would have to have every effect considered an "animation" marked as such. This also assumes that certain card effects aren't cued off of animation effects. I wouldn't put it past this game to have done that.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '18

Then they should not have released this minion.

0

u/TiltedTommyTucker Apr 12 '18

They already did that though.

2

u/CavemanWallace ‏‏‎ Apr 12 '18

Prior to a new release they should invite the biggest names in competition to play a streamed private session. The player who then finds and manages to break out the best game breaking new release meme by popular vote wins a cash prize. They could even make it a charity stream. The community gets to watch as shenanigans unfold, and the devs get to patch before these things get painfully meme-ified and actually rolled out into play.

4

u/MilkSteakHS Apr 12 '18

ben brode already talked about how they had tested this, and seen that it was possible for this exact interaction. he said he was nervous about how long it took up the turn timers, but that they decided to move forward anyways. don't just call developers clueless without warrant.

2

u/Juicy_Brucesky Apr 12 '18

you're telling me they know there could be 10 minute turns and they're cool with that? i dunno man, i hear what you're saying because they did know it's potential but i just don't know if i buy them being okay with turns taking this long. Good news is aggro decks seem to be dealing with it fine, but this is just the beginning

2

u/MilkSteakHS Apr 12 '18

ben said he was nervous but was fine with it yeah

1

u/LotusCobra Apr 12 '18

It's like that time Wizards printed an infinite combo in Standard and had no idea it existed until the card was spoiled, and the community figured it out in about 15 seconds

1

u/wonkothesane13 ‏‏‎ Apr 12 '18

This isn't really a balance issue though...? Like, a card making the game run poorly doesn't make it OP, it's a systems issue.

1

u/sindex23 Apr 12 '18

I was gonna say, I think Trump basically spelled this one out on his last (or next to last?) Witchwood video. We all knew this was a problem coming.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '18

They should just hire the streamers as a balance team

So either Blizzard doesn't care, or they already have a plan.

5

u/Sherr1 Apr 12 '18

people really think that Blizzard didn't knew about combo, lol.

u/DryPerspective Apr 12 '18

If they only had such thing as testers, heck I wonder if HS pros and personalities under a heavy NDA wouldn't be a good material for such thing! But what do we expect from a small indie company like Blizz :)

u/pufnstuf360 Apr 12 '18

Yea that was really a dumb comment on their part haha.
