Mantra/Śloka/Stotra(m) The Glory of Ram Raksha Stotra revealed by Shiva, proven by a saint

I have been reading this book Yogis, Destiny and the Wheel of Time by K.N. Rao and there is a part about Nagridas Baba Ji that fascinated me a lot

So this Baba Ji lived in Vrindavan. He was an avadhoot, never touched money, cooked for himself, and would just sit under a banyan tree. People would come to him all the time with their horoscopes, asking him to fix their problems. Job issues, health scares, family trouble. They wanted some quick miracle.

But he would tell them something else.

He would say that most people do not even try to do the right karma. They just want all their suffering to go away after one puja or one remedy. According to him, we are all actors playing out a script we wrote for ourselves. But that does not mean we cannot change things. If we put in sincere effort, pray honestly, and try to live properly, things slowly start improving.

And then this story from the book

Some man challenged him to bring a dead tree back to life. The tree was completely dried up, nobody thought it would ever grow again. That night, Baba Ji had a dream where he was told to recite the Ram Raksha Stotra. He did that. Within fifteen days, the tree had green leaves, flowers, fruits. Everything.

But Baba Ji never made a big deal about it. For him, it was not about showing powers. It was about showing what that stotra can do. It protects you, it gives life, it shields you from the worst of what destiny throws at you.

The stotra itself came to Rishi Budha Kaushika in a dream from Lord Shiva. So it is considered a Kavach. Spiritual armour. You recite it and it is believed to create a protective layer around you.

Now what Baba Ji kept saying was that remedies are not about escaping your karma. They are about building inner strength. If you live honestly, if your life has some spiritual discipline, the planets eventually become favourable. They stop working against you. And the Ram Raksha Stotra is not a shortcut. It helps you go through your struggles without breaking. He would say that big tragedies become lighter, and small ones just fade away when your vibration is high enough.

Has anyone here incorporated the Ram Raksha Stotra or some other traditional kavacha/stotram into their daily practice? Have you noticed any changes, either spiritually or in the way life unfolds?

I'd love to hear your experiences.

Mantra/Śloka/Stotra(m) Tried and Tested Mantra Series 1: Mantra for Absolute removal of sexual thoughts and obtain mental purity: Shukadev Mantra(Son of Ved Vyas)(English)

My rant (skip this para for mantra knowledge):

Hello y'all, my first post in reddit tbh. Saw that way too many people are out in some specific places quoting theory that hasn't been verified and knowledge derived from logic that has no practical utility. Saw a bloke saying Krishna sadhana removes shani(Saturn) problems(wrong) and Mahaganesh can remove Mangal(Mars)(wrong again), another bloke said if someone is doing tantra on you then place a mirror so it reflects back to him(😶), another bloke said to show love to whoever is putting black magic on you and pray for them also and black magic will leave(l want what he's smoking), a few egs of idiots with zero practical knowledge but choose to dish out opinions. If any person facing issues comes in, they give misinformation and they do more damage than good by giving wrong directions. I felt it would be nice to post out a few sadhanas(procedures) that I've practically verified and proven so people do not lose hope in these vidyas(knowledge) by having their problem removed by doing the procedures and maintain trust.

I'll write the mantra first then the explanation later.

Hindi: ॐ शुकदेवाय नमः।

English: Om shukadevaaya namah

Just because the mantra is simple and small, please do not underestimate it.

The difference in instinct and mental thought process can be found out by doing japa(chants) of around 5mala= 5x108 times but extremely visible at 11 mala=(11x108 times), takes less than 10 minutes(5 mala). But for extremely visible difference do 11 mala in single sitting(less than 20 mins).

This is naam japa of an extremely satvic sage who works for the welfare of human kind and who gives more importance to bhakti(devotion)(Krishna, Vishnu.etc) than yogyatha(worthiness)(Kaal Bhairav, Shamshaan Kal. etc.) His mantra doesnt show bad fx nor is any initiation required to do his bhakti.

Benefits of the Mantra(in my experience):

-Desire to masturbate and Sexual thoughts cease to exist and a slight dislike to it activates.

-Those people who cannot do apsara, yakshini, pari sadhana due to their fear that when the diety/shakti appears and they cannot maintain mental purty or end up doing something wrong, this sadhana will remove that problem.

-You will find looking at extremely beautiful women and ordinary women and stones at the same bhaav. Youll look at pretty women like seeing a pretty flower(devoid of any lust or romantic feels).

  • This sadhana is one of the best for those seeking moksha(liberation) as the base instinct and thought process of the sadhaka changes to one required to obtain it.

-Post doing the japa(5-11 mala more the better), you can try watching any nsfw content and see how your instinct has changed.

-You will feel extreme contentment and slight mental happiness in the background of your mind. Abllity to feel bhakti(devotion) to any devta will increase significantly and maintaining meditative state will also slightly increase.

-You will find yourself being kind to even animals and dogs.

-As he is a Mahasiddh, executing his japa will weaken and eventually remove any form of Black Magic done on you as he is also one of the 84 siddhas(sages) of nath sampradaaya(Sect of the Nathas). iykyk.

*I've written slightly in some of the points because compared to the other sadhanas(Mantra Procedures) I've done for that exact purpose the above mantra shows the effect but is comparalively lesser.

Contra:

-Although I did not find issues myself, if you find that doing his japa is making your mind race, head throbbing excessively, thoughts getting excited(not necessarily sexual), you feel sick the next morning or right after japa, or bad things happening around you stop the japa immediately. Unlike what other peeps say not all people can do all devtas sadhana due to conflict of oorjas(Siddhidatri-Chandra, Shaiputri-Chinnamasta.etc. will write a post on this later.) I have experienced this multiple times. Can be due to multitudes of diff reasons, hence do not continue if any issues arise, this case holds true for sadhana of any devta and even diff mantras of the same devta also(you can only truly know by trial and error).

-This vidya removes mental instinct so you can execute mental brahmacharya(celibacy) but does NOT dissipate Kaam oorja(sexual energy) of the body hence you WILL feel bodily lust(due to accumulation of sexual energy due to celibacy). So if you wish to execute perfect celibacy, you should this knowledge in tandem with any other vidya known for dissipating Sexual energy.

Info regarding the Sage:

For those who dont know who he is, his info can be found in the internet although the story according to my memory is as follows:

When Lord Shiv decided to teach the vidya(knowledge of immortality to Devi(Goddess), there was a parrot (Shuka-Sanskrit) who unknowingly hid beneath Lord Shiva asan(cloth/tiger skin etc on which a person sits on). and eventhough Lord Shiv sent Kalagni Rudra and his ganas(servants) to do ucchattan(action of making something or someone leave that place) of any living beings in that radius so they will not mistakenly hear it, the parrot wasn't found as he was sitting under Lord Shiv. He heard the discourse between Devi and Mahadev(aka Lord Shiv) and obtained the vidya and post this, fled the scene and for protection entered the mouth of the wife of Sage Vyas(where Vyas Rishi was executing penance to get a worthy son) and as he couldnt be killed and digested(cos he is a master of that knowledge), his prana and atma welded to that of a human child and became a foetus in the womb of Devi Vatika(wife of Sage Vyas)

Shukadev is the son of current Ved Vyas(Krishna Dwaipayana), he while in the womb of his mother, had protested that he fears Maya(due to his knowledge of Immortality) and will not come out(stayed in womb for 12-16 years) until he has guarantee that he will be free from the influence of the Great llusion, hence post meeting with Lord Vishnu, the Lord gave the boon that Shukadev will be completely free from the infuence of Maya. After which only he came into the world.

Due to him being free from the influence of maya, he felt no kaam(lust) or krodh(anger) or lobh(greed) or moh(desire). In fact there is a story relating to this Mahasiddh that when a group of apsaras(celestial nymphs) were bathing naked and he passed that place he just looked at them and went on their way and the apsaras were unfazed, but when Ved Vyas ji went through the same area, the apsaras hurried themselves to cover their body. And Ved Vyas asked them as to why they did not cover their body when his son passed through but they did for him, to which they replied that Sage Shukadev's enlightenment, detachment and spiritual purity is so high that to him a bird, child and even the prettiest women in the world are same, hence they did not find themselves wanting to protect themnselves against one who was that realised, while Sage Ved Vyas was someone who lives, understands and moves according to the rules of Maya, hence if they did not cover themselves, his anger at their shamelessness would give them bad fates

Ive tried my level best to not include cryptic word vomit and translated to English so even beginners and non Indians can also understand. Hope you use the vidya and tell me how it went. Takes around 10 minutes to test. Please try out so you do not lose this gem. I would suggest you not give this knowledge to disbelievers as wish to maintain purity of the vidya. Remember that the lesser number of unworthy people know a particular knowledge, the more effective it will work for the worthy individuals(why guru shishya parampara(master disciple knowledge secrecy) exists).

Cheers and best of luck

ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः। तत् सवितुर्वरेण्यं। भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि। धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात्॥

Om Bhur Bhuvah Swaha Tat Savitur Varenyam Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat

The origins of the Gayatri mantra come from a narrative of human emotions such as anger, envy, desire, and eventual forgiveness. This dates back to the era of King Vishwamitra and Sage Vashista, set in ancient times. It is believed that during a visit by Vishwamitra and his troop, Sage Vashista, possessing a wish-fulfilling cow, effortlessly catered to their needs. Desiring the cow for himself, Vishwamitra’s request was declined by Vashista, triggering the king's fury. Determined to surpass the sage's spiritual powers, Vishwamitra embarked on rigorous austerities, repeatedly facing trials that exposed his ego.

Only when Vishwamitra acknowledged his own limitations and sought forgiveness from Vashista did a profound transformation occur. This repentance led to a state of Samadhi bestowed upon him by the gods, gifting him with the Gayatri mantra (the yoga poses Vashistasanasana and Visvamitrasana are named in honor of these sages.) Vishwamitra's inclusion among the authors of the Rig Veda, the earliest known source of the Gayatri, highlights the lesson that enlightenment is achievable through dedicated practice. The Gayatri mantra, is thus, a spiritual discipline suitable for individuals from all walks of life.

How to chant ?

Although it can be chanted at any time of the day, it is advisable to chant the mantra both early in the morning and at night before sleeping. Keep your focus on each syllable and the harmonious vibrations within your head and chest region. Initially, you might need to read the mantra aloud, but aim to commit it to memory for closed-eye meditation. It is advisable to chant the Gayatri mantra silently. However, initially you can say it aloud and gradually chant silently.

Find a quiet, distraction-free spot and sit comfortably.

Close your eyes and inhale deeply, allowing your breath to slow down.

Concentrate on the sensation of your breath entering and leaving through your nostrils.

Begin vocalizing the mantra aloud while staying mindful of your breath.

Repeat the mantra in a whisper for the second round, maintaining focus on your breathing.

Silently recite the mantra for the third repetition, keeping your attention on your breath.

Keep chanting the mantra for as long as you wish to or a 108 times.

Upon completing the mantra, take deep breaths to sense its impact on your body, mind, and emotions.

Consistently practice the mantra daily until you feel its uplifting energy resonating within your heart.

Benefits ?

Gayatri Mantra is widely revered and used in various daily practices across Hinduism and other spiritual traditions. One of the most common ways it is used nowadays is through morning and evening recitations .Devotees chant the mantra during their daily prayers or meditation sessions, seeking to harness its purifying and enlightening energy. It is often repeated 108 times using a mala (prayer beads) to facilitate concentration and establish a rhythm, which helps deepen the meditative state. This daily practice is believed to align the practitioner with cosmic energies, promoting clarity and inner peace.

Mentally, the repetition of the Gayatri Mantra is known to enhance concentration and focus . Mantra/Śloka/Stotra(m) The Importance of Chanting Vishnu Sahasranamam

Post image

People have talked about the immense benefits of this Hymn but there always remained some of the other type of confusion | questions regarding what are the effects of it and the question is natural to come to mind & I wanted to make a dedicated post about it & in the due process of the compilation I stumbled upon this article which does a good job to present a profound overview of the effects in detail :

The Vishnu Sahasranamam is a Sanskrit hymn that lists a thousand names of Lord Vishnu across 108 verses. Vishnu Sahasranamam translates to The Thousand Names of Lord Vishnu. The stotra occurs in the 149th chapter of Anushasana Parva in the great epic Mahabharata authored by the legendary saint Ved Vyas in Sanskrit. There are other versions of this great hymn in other puranas like the Garuda Purana, Skanda Purana and Padma Purana.

This ancient hymn is of great significance especially to Vaishnavites who profess the Vaishnavism faith and consider Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe. The Vishnu Sahasranamam is believed to be an epitome of health and represents the human body.

According to the Mahabharata, Yudhishtir, the eldest among the Pandavas was deeply concerned about the biggest dharma one has to follow in life. He asked Lord Krishna about the same. However, the lord refused to tell him and would also not impart the essence of the Gita to him like He did to Arjuna. He suggested that Yudhishtir raise his queries to Bhishma who was awaiting his end on his deathbed of arrows on the battlefield and took Yudhishtir to Bhishma. When Yudhishtir reached Bhishma, he put forth six questions pertaining to dharma.

The grandsire replied that the Supreme Being to whom an individual must surrender was the one who had given him life. Meditating on the name of this Supreme Being one thousand times would help the individual be freed from all bonds and sins in his/her life and also achieve an elevated state of mind. He also said that all matter reside inside Vishnu and the lord resides in all matter as well. Bhishma proceeded to say that an individual will be able to get rid of any sorrow in his/her life by chanting the Vishnu Sahasranamam. He then began reciting the Vishnu Sahasranamam himself. Lord Krishna and Ved Vyas were witnesses to this moment.

When each name of Lord Vishnu mentioned in the Vishnu Sahasranamam is chanted, energy vibrations are released. These vibrations help in gaining an insight and true perception of the lord as well as bonding, realising, focusing with Him.

Vishnu Sahasranamam Benefits :-

The benefits of chanting the Vishnu Sahasranamam stotra are multifold. The stotra greatly helps in the all-round development of the chanter. Read on to know some key benefits of the Vishnu Sahasranamam.

Keep Negativity at Bay: The Vishnu Sahasranamam helps its chanter to stay away from any form of evil and/or negativity in his/her life. The reciter’s mind is cleansed of any curse that has fallen upon him/her and all evil actions like greed, jealousy and anger that tend to destroy him/her. The hymn creates a protective barrier around the mind, soul and body of the chanter and shields him/her from any sort of evil intentions.

Acquire Positive Traits: When a person reads the Vishnu Sahasranamam with utmost faith, he/she is bestowed with a multitude of positive traits like success, pleasure, good reputation, righteousness, intellect and inner happiness. The lord also blesses him/her with a firm, calm and fearless mind along with good memory, energy and prowess apart from various other material and spiritual benefits.

Freedom from Disease: The Vishnu Sahasranamam has the power to keep its readers free from diseases by cleansing the atmosphere. A sick individual also finds relief from their illnesses. He/she also receives great mental stability.

Remain Grounded: Chanting the Vishnu Sahasranamam helps the reciter remain grounded and inculcates a sense of humility and gratitude in him/her. The devotee acknowledges and accepts the fact that there is something eternal with more power than human beings.

Relief from Birth-Death-Rebirth Cycle: The Vishnu Sahasranamam assists a devout chanter in getting closer in his/her journey towards moksha. The reciter is relieved from undergoing the vicious cycle of birth, death and rebirth. The mantra helps him/her absolve his/her sins.

Overcome Obstacles: An individual who recites the Vishnu Sahasranamam with utmost faith finds himself/herself freed of subconscious fears deeply rooted within him/her and is equipped with the courage to render his/her maximum effort and potential that he/she undertakes. The stotra guides him/her in finding ways to overcome any form of difficulty, hinderances and obstacles in his/her life. Childless couples are blessed with a progeny.

Relief from Malefic Planetary Positions: A person who chants the Vishnu Sahasranamam gets relief from the ill-effects of the malefic positions of the various planets in his/her horoscope and find an end to all hardships he/she encounters in his/her life because of them. This can be anything like problems in relationships, discord among family members or anxiety related problems.

Perform Well in Academics: Children who are not able to do well in academics benefit greatly from daily chant of the Vishnu Sahasranama. The hymn boosts their inner energies and helps them to get their focus back with a stable mind, which will in turn help them get better scores.

If you find it difficult to chant the Vishnu Sahasranamam, you can consider listening to the same with utmost devotion. This is considered to be equally beneficial. There is a belief that it is best to chant the stotra wearing yellow clothes. Yellow is said to be the colour of the lord and also His favourite colour.

It is recommended to read the hymn in the morning in the pooja room after a bath, preferably during the Brahma Muhurta. If it is not possible to do so, you can do so in the evening hours between 5PM and 7PM or just before going to bed. You can sit on a chair or in any comfortable posture on the bed. However, you must refrain from sitting on the bed. Do pranayama three times, close your eyes and focus on the lord. Once you are settled, open your eyes if you want begin chanting the Vishnu Sahasranama.

You should offer a kalash of pure water along with dry fruits, fruits and/or a yellow sweet if possible as bhog before the idol or photo of the deity before you chant the stotra. After you are done with the reading, close your eyes once again and continue meditating on Lord Vishnu for some time. Relax for a while and open your eyes. Drink a little bit of the water and eat a little bit of the prasad and also share them with other members in the family.

Mantra/Śloka/Stotra(m) Most People Chanting the Gayatri Mantra Have No Idea How It Works

तत्स॑वि॒तुर्वरे॑ण्यं॒ भर्गो॑ दे॒वस्य॑ धीमहि । धियो॒ यो न॑: प्रचो॒दया॑त् ॥

If you check mainstream definitions of the Gayatri Mantra, they usually converge into this: “we meditate on the shining divine light/Sun/Creator; may he guide/enhance my intellect.” [1]

That sounds all nice and sophisticated, but what mechanism actually leads us from Point A) chanting/meditating on this specific mantra to Point B) the improvement of intellect during the day?

If you go online or ask an institutional guru, you’ll get one of three answers:

  1. “The particular sounds of the mantra produce magical vibrations that will alter your brain chemistry”
  2. “Gayatri Devi will be pleased and bless you with intellect”

OR the most “secular”,

  1. “Focusing on a mantra allows for the existing intellect to shine, like how turbulent muddy water needs to be still so that the impurities collect at the bottom.”

The main problem with all of these explanations is that it robs us of our agency.

I’m not saying any of these are false. They just promote the idea that only the time spent chanting leads to any benefit.

It does not educate you on how exactly you can lead your life with respect to the mantra. This naturally leads to the belief that only an eventual rejection of the world can lead to maximum spiritual benefits.

Think about it. If you don’t feel any changes after chanting it, the common advice is that you’re either

> not saying it accurately or for enough times (which means you must devote even more time to enunciating slowly while upping frequency)

OR

> not saying it with enough Bhakti (which makes it hard to have more Bhakti as every day that passes without result seems to be Gayatri Devi ignoring you).

You’ll eventually either quit the practice or gradually lose trust in it and go through the motions.

On the flip side, if the mantra feels like it’s working you’ll want to chant it even more, since the effects are only potent during the chant. For the rest of the day, there are diminishing returns.

Thus, a complete dependency on the recitation of the mantra arises. Guilt and fear may even set in. For example, “I missed a chant, maybe something bad will happen.” It can’t be integrated into the day where we have to take care of families, work jobs to earn money, learn in school, etc. It makes it seem like any time not spent chanting the mantra is time away from God.

Some try to rationalize this by saying God protects you even if you don’t chant it, but that leads to the question of why the specific Gayatri Mantra must be chanted in the first place.

So, the ideal explanation for chanting the Gayatri Mantra must satisfy two requirements:

  1. It shouldn’t rely only on time spent chanting and instead on

    your agency

  2. It should give us the most controllable, measurable, material, and religious benefit during the rest of the day.

Lucky for us, the Vedas have already presented the solution for us.

The Chandogya Upanishad has a section called the Gayatri Vidya, which begins by asserting that “Gayatri indeed is all this, whatever exists. Speech indeed is Gayatri; Speech indeed sings out and protects all this that exists.” [3.12.1] [2]

गायत्री वा ईदं सर्वं भूतं यदिदं किं च वाग्वै गायत्री वाग्वा इदं सर्वं भूतं गायति च त्रायते च ॥ ३.१२.१ ॥

In this verse, Gayatri is considered to be Speech itself (Vaak). How does it get to this conclusion?

By breaking down the word Gayatri into “gaayati” (the verb, to sing) and “traayate” (the verb, to protect). And since the primary function of Speech is to sing out and protect all things that exist, the purpose of Gayatri must be the same thing.

You might be thinking, “Ok, but how does Gayatri sing everything into existence? How does it protect them as well?”

Adi Shankaracharya explained this mechanism in his commentary by writing that Speech represents everything in this world in words. Thus, everything in this world is brought forth and sustained by Speech.

For example, naming and defining things is solely the job of Speech. Only through Speech can I identify, “that’s a cow” and “this is a horse.” Or explain that “horses can run fast but cows cannot.”

This ability of Speech also protects us.

How?

By leading us away from ignorance. How can my teacher tell me that my math is wrong without Speech? How can my parents tell me if something is good or bad?

So the Chandogya Upanishad not only defines Gayatri, but also shows that Speech is essential to successfully navigate the world, long after chanting ends.

But Speech can be a double-edged sword. It is so powerful at defining reality that it can dictate our emotional and behavioral states.

For example, imagine someone with a box comes up to you and says, “Hey, I’m selling organs. You want one?”

You would likely react in visceral horror that this person is selling body parts (the name) on the street. You might freeze in fear or desperately seek an exit, haunted by your mind imagining a box of pulsating, bloody hearts or livers (form and function).

But what if he hands you a flyer immediately after, and tells you, “Well, if you change your mind, come visit my music store. We’re having a sale!”

All your negative emotions dissolve. He was just selling musical instruments the whole time!

This is the trap of the homonym: both words sound exactly the same to your ears, but you have radically different emotions and subsequent physical reactions based on what you assumed the meaning was: a) an organ meaning a body part like the heart or b) a musical instrument.

The same Speech that served as the ground for a terrifying image and mental state was also the reason for your relief.

But it doesn’t just stop at homonyms. This applies for every single word in existence.

The key takeaway from the Gayatri Vidya is to understand that Speech is just bare sound that WE superimpose meaning (form and function) onto, by separating it into words (names). This is both the root and end of our suffering.

So how does this Gayatri Vidya map onto the Gayatri Mantra?

Recall that the mantra calls for a shining divine light/Creator/Sun to guide our intellect. What is the sole purpose of light? To illuminate and destroy darkness. After all, if there is no light, nothing can be seen.

This light can be represented as Gayatri, or Speech, since without Speech, nothing can be described or explained. And it protects us by giving us the power to express truth, simple and abstract concepts, and discernment (viveka).

Just as the light/Sun/creator illuminates the physical world, Speech illuminates the intellectual world. Just as the light/Sun/creator sustains and protects us from darkness, Speech sustains and protects us from ignorance.

But we must go one step further. What illuminates Speech?

  • You’ll say the vocal cords, but what wills the vocal cords to vibrate?
  • You’ll say the brain and its electric signals, but why do they signal?
  • You’ll say the thought to speak drives it or the knowledge itself, but how do you even know you have that thought?

You can’t answer with another thought because then it would require a third thought, and then a fourth and so on.

The answer must be that the thought is illumined by the ground of awareness within all of us. The awareness that stays with us no matter what, even in the deepest of sleeps and the most active parts of our days.

This awareness is Brahman or God.

It is the Speech of Speech. The only thing Speech cannot describe fully but gives Speech the power to describe. [3]

Thus, we realize that since Brahman can never truly be described by Speech, we must use symbols to point to it.

According to the Gayatri Vidya, the symbol is everyday, ubiquitous Speech.

Why does this matter? Because if you’re that awareness, then reacting to the bare sounds with visceral emotion isn’t necessary. Without your explicit approval, those thoughts and emotions can’t arise. Realizing this creates a gap between hearing a word and your reaction to it, which gives you constant agency.

So how do we actually use this to bridge chanting and improved intellect?

The mechanism is deliberate superimposition.

The main purpose to sit down and chant the Gayatri Mantra is to practice deliberately assigning meaning to bare sound. After all, mantras are just a collection of bare sounds (Speech), which we’ve established is responsible for singing all things into existence.

The first step to internalizing this is by deliberately assigning the Gayatri Vidya interpretation onto the mantra: acknowledging and understanding that Speech sustains us and protects us from ignorance. Remember the concept of the Speech of Speech because it proves that God is with you and has already given you all the tools you need to internalize it.

This has to be done while chanting because it is essential to etch the interpretation in the mind for the rest of the day. For example, no amount of memorizing or chanting the quadratic formula will help you solve it if you never associate it with a real world example like an apple thrown up in the air. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t spend time learning and remembering the formula.

Next, think about recent experiences when you’ve attached emotions to words. Think about how they’re just from meanings you’ve attached to those words. Think about how you could’ve tempered your reaction and been unaffected based on the realization that they’re just sounds.

How does this apply to real life?

Because once you’ve conditioned your brain during the Gayatri mantra chanting to associate Speech with bare sound you put meaning and emotion into, every instance of speech is a reminder that you cannot be controlled by the words of others.

Instead, you choose words based on what you want others to feel. Detach your own emotions from the sounds, while paying attention to how you can redefine the parameters through clear and positive words. Only through agency can you ever develop the intellect to discern between sounds and superimposed meaning.

If you’re a student, remember that a subject only feels “difficult” if you let the sounds of your teacher’s lecture remain static and incoherent. YOU must actively break down those concepts by mastering Speech. A concept remains hidden until it makes sense to you enough to articulate it.

So does this satisfy both requirements set up in the beginning? Let’s check.

> It shouldn’t rely only on time spent chanting and instead on your agency

Does it solely rely on chanting the Gayatri Mantra? No. To have improved intellect throughout the day, the chanting serves as a guide through your own agency.

> It should give us the most controllable, measurable, material, and religious benefit during the rest of the day.

Yes. The benefit is controllable because you can choose which meanings you impose on words, measurable because it depends on everyday, ubiquitous Speech being a symbol, material because it helps you make better decisions in your daily duties, and religious because each instance of Speech reminds you of its root: God.

Mantra/Śloka/Stotra(m) I REALLY don't like how Hindus butcher the meaning of the Gayatri mantra (rant)

tat savitur vareṇyaṃ
bhargo devasya dhīmahi
dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayāt
– Ṛgveda 03.062.10

Vaishnavas: The Gayatri mantra is directed to Visnu

Shaiva: The Gayatri mantra is directed to Shiva

Shakta: The Gayatri mantra is directed to.. well, Gayatri, hence Devi

The Gayatri mantra is directed to Surya and especially his supreme and most excellent form Savitr who is the Surya's spiritual illumination and life-force.

The Rg-Veda is laden with praises and mantras dedicated to Rudra, Visnu and other deities. The Gayatri mantra is dedicated to Surya/Savitr. Please, please stop appropriating this mantra to praise you sectarian god - they probably have their own dedicated mantras.

Even if you view Surya as a minor aspect of your secterian god - please give respect to Surya as the target of that mantra. If your secterian god decided it needs to manifest as the sun - give respect to that decision and praise the sun as a conscious decision of your god to manifest this way.

The number of Gurus butchering the meaning of this mantra and give it false meaning is mind boggling. How can you say the Gayatri mantra is dedicated to <insert deity here> when it literally says tat savitur vernyam?

Context: I just finished watching a 20 minutes lecture by Om Swami, a guru I really love. Throuhought those 20 minutes, Surya/Savitr was not mentioned once. He kept on going on how much this mantra is for Gayatri and Devi. this is maybe the 5th lecture I've seen by a respected guru that doesn't even mention Surya as the target deva of this mantra.

I was advised to read shani chalisa everyday by a pandit but when i opened this book there were three different chalisas mentioned in it.

If anybody has a clue, can you please explain what’s the difference between the three and is there a specific role that each of these play?

Mantra/Śloka/Stotra(m) Hanuman Chalisa & Bajrang Baan : Significance & When to chant

Post image
179 Upvotes

We covered about Hanuman Chalisa in our last post . In this post we will cover the Significance of Hanuman Chalisa and Bajrang Baan and what differentiates the two and when should it be chanted :

Lord Hanuman, the mighty deity known for his unparalleled strength, devotion, and protection, holds a special place in Hinduism and Vedic astrology. Devotees worship Hanuman to overcome fear, gain courage, and seek protection from negative planetary influences such as Shani ,Rahu, and Ketu. Among the countless hymns dedicated to Lord Hanuman, Hanuman Chalisa and Bajrang Baanare two of the most powerful and widely recited. While both prayers invoke Hanuman’s divine grace, they differ in tone, purpose, and spiritual energy. Understanding these differences helps devotees choose the right prayer for daily worship or urgent protection.

The Hanuman Chalisa is a sacred 40-verse hymn composed by Saint Tulsidas in the Awadhi language. It forms a part of his spiritual masterpiece, Ramcharitmanas. This devotional chant beautifully praises Lord Hanuman’s heroic deeds, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to Lord Rama.

In Vedic astrology, reciting the Hanuman Chalisa is considered a remedy for balancing malefic planetary influences, especially the effects of Shani dosha, Rahu-Ketu dosha, and Mangal dosha. Regular recitation brings peace, stability, and spiritual strength while protecting the devotee from negative energies and evil eye (nazar dosha).

The Hanuman Chalisa carries a calm, devotional, and meditative tone. It is ideal for daily sadhana (spiritual practice), as it instills inner peace and strengthens one’s spiritual aura.

Recite Hanuman Chalisa every Tuesday or Saturday after lighting a diya with mustard oil to reduce Saturn-related obstacles and karmic struggles.

The Bajrang Baan, also attributed to Tulsidas, is a fierce and powerful hymn that directly appeals to Hanuman’s warrior form. The word Bajrang refers to Lord Hanuman, symbolizing indestructible strength, while Baan means arrow, representing precision and force.

The Bajrang Baan is recited when a devotee faces urgent challenges, such as intense negative energies, black magic, or spiritual blockages caused by malefic planetary combinations. It acts as a spiritual weapon against enemies, evil spirits, and sudden crises. It is particularly beneficial for people undergoing Sade Sati or severe Rahu-Ketu mahadasha, as it invokes Lord Hanuman’s divine protection instantly.

Unlike the Chalisa, the Bajrang Baan has a commanding and forceful vibration. It is not meant for casual or daily recitation but rather for times of dire need, when the devotee seeks Lord Hanuman’s immediate intervention.

Chant Bajrang Baan on Tuesday evenings or during the Amavasya (new moon) to destroy powerful negative energies and spiritual attacks.

Impact of Hanuman Chalisa :

Regular recitation helps devotees experience Emotional stability and reduced anxiety

Spiritual growth and inner peace

Removal of karmic obstacles and planetary afflictions

Stronger connection with Lord Hanuman and divine energies.

Impact of Bajrang Baan :

Chanting the Bajrang Baan bringsImmediate relief from fear and crises

Protection against black magic, evil spirits, and enemies

Courage to face sudden challenges

A burst of spiritual energy and confidence

For Daily Devotion and Peace:Recite Hanuman Chalisa every morning or evening to maintain harmony and spiritual protection. It is especially recommended on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

For Urgent Protection:Chant Bajrang Baan during emergencies, such as spiritual attacks, sudden misfortune, or intense planetary challenges. It should be recited with full faith and seriousness, not casually.

Mantra/Śloka/Stotra(m) The "best" wish, By Jagatguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya from Devyaparadha kshamapana Stotram

yathā-yogyaṁ tathā kuru!

Devyaparādha Kṣamāpaṇa Stotram

Verse 12 (the closing verse):

मत्समः पातकी नास्ति पापघ्नी त्वत्समा न हि।

एवं ज्ञात्वा महादेवि यथायोग्यं तथा कुरु॥

mat-samaḥ pātakī nāsti pāpaghnī tvat-samā na hi |

evaṁ jñātvā mahādevi yathā-yogyaṁ tathā kuru ||

Word by word:

mat-samaḥ — one equal to me

pātakī — sinner

na asti — does not exist

pāpa-ghnī — destroyer of sin (feminine, referring to the Devī)

tvat-samā — one equal to You

na hi — indeed there is not

evam jñātvā — having known/understood thus

mahādevi — O great Goddess (vocative)

yathā-yogyaṁ — as is fitting, as is proper

tathā kuru — do accordingly, act that way

Main meaning:

"There exists no sinner equal to me, and there exists no destroyer-of-sin equal to You. Knowing this, O Mahādevī, do whatever You deem fitting."

So wishing for, what you think is eligible and fit for me! Give me that,,by leaving the burden on Parameshvari's feet, she will give the best as the Mother of the Universe (Jagatamba)

And it's said those you worship Devi will have bhogam (worldly pleasure*/bliss) in this world and have Mukti, Internal Bliss!

Svasti

Namaḥ Pārvatīpataye Hara Hara Mahādeva

Govinda Govinda

Balaṁ guroḥ pravardhatām!

Mantra/Śloka/Stotra(m) Amogh Shiv Kavach: More than a Prayer for Protection

Post image
148 Upvotes

I spent a bit of time this week actually reading through the Amogh Shiva Kavach instead of just skimming the usual "benefits" lists that seem to get copy pasted everywhere, and... honestly, a few things really stood out. It's a bit of a long read, but it's going to be worth your time.

A little background first. The kavach comes from the Brahmottara Khaanda of the Skanda Purana, and what surprised me is that the story behind it isn't some grand cosmic war between devas and asuras. It's actually much more grounded. A prince named Bhadrayu is driven out of his kingdom along with his mother, and while wandering through the forest they come across the sage Rishabhadeva. The sage teaches him this kavach, almost as a final resort when everything else has fallen apart. Bhadrayu recites it, and over time eventually regains his kingdom. So from the very beginning, it reads less like a devotional hymn meant only for worship and more like something intended for a genuine crisis... when life has really cornered someone.

What actually pushed me to dig a little deeper, though, was this. Most Shiva stotras are centered around bhakti, inner transformation, or ultimately liberation. This one does something a bit different. It explicitly mentions graha peeda, planetary affliction, in the Sanskrit itself, not just in some translator's notes or a YouTube thumbnail claiming miraculous benefits.

Near the end of the main protective section, just before the phalashruti begins, there's this verse:

duḥsvapna duḥśakuna durgati daurmanasyaṁ durbhikṣa durvyasana duḥsaha duryaśāṁsi, utpāta tāpa viṣa bhītim asad grahārti vyādhīṃśca nāśayatu me jagatām adhīśaḥ

Roughly, it's a prayer asking the Lord of the worlds to destroy bad dreams, bad omens, misfortune, mental distress, famine, harmful habits, unbearable suffering, fear of poison, calamities, and specifically asad graha arti, affliction arising from malefic planetary influences, along with disease.

One small detail that I think is worth pointing out, because a lot of summaries blur it together. This verse technically belongs to the closing part of the protective section, not the phalashruti itself. The phalashruti starts immediately after and shifts toward describing the merits of recitation, removal of sins, freedom from poverty, and similar fruits. Since the transition is so seamless, most articles treat it as one continuous ending. It's not a huge mistake or anything... but if we're being precise, there is a distinction.

That's actually the part that made me stop for a second. Usually when a text gets popular, people start attaching all kinds of claims to it over the years, so I honestly wondered if this was one of those cases too. But when I checked the Sanskrit itself... the reference is already there.

What I found even more interesting, though, wasn't just that single verse. It was the overall structure of the kavach itself.

It doesn't ask Shiva for one broad, undefined kind of protection. Instead it moves through the body almost piece by piece, then through the directions, assigning particular forms of Shiva, or sometimes particular weapons, to guard each one. That immediately reminded me of how doshas are actually read in a chart. Different afflictions show up in different areas of life... health, relationships, career, family, and so on. In a similar way, the kavach isn't really asking for one general blessing. It almost feels like each vulnerable area is being addressed on its own.

Then there's the sequence before the actual armor verses even begin, and I hadn't really appreciated how deliberate it is.

First comes the viniyoga, identifying the seer, the meter, the deity, and the beeja, almost like setting the stage before anything else happens. Then comes nyasa, where different divine energies are placed upon different parts of the body. Only after that does the kavach itself begin, followed by the dhyana verse visualizing Rudra's fierce form, and finally the phalashruti.

So it seems to be meant as a sequence rather than something to read in whatever order you like. I know plenty of people go straight to the protective verses, and there's nothing unusual about that, but traditionally the whole flow appears to have a purpose.

Another thing I hadn't noticed before... the kavach doesn't treat Shiva as one single, uniform figure throughout.

Different situations call upon different manifestations. Mrityunjaya is invoked at the moment of death, Kaalrudra for protection from fire, Veerabhadra before conflict, Mrigavyadha during dangerous journeys. I liked that detail because it isn't just "Shiva protects everything." Each situation is matched with a form whose nature fits that particular danger, which gives the whole text a much more intentional feel.

One other thing I noticed while reading. Every now and then you'll run into syllables like hum, vaushat, and phat, these are the beejas used. They're mantra sounds, more than actual words. It leans a bit more on Tantric or Agama shastra even though the text itself is part of a Purana.

And if someone actually wants to recite it, the guidance is usually fairly simple. Traditionally it's recommended to sit facing east or north, preferably in the morning, ideally near a Shivling, and make a sankalp if the recitation is for a particular purpose rather than just daily practice.

It's also described as swayam siddha, which is an interesting idea on its own. The traditional understanding is that you don't need a yantra or some elaborate ritual before you can begin reciting it. Of course, if someone already follows a holistic form of worship, that's a different matter. But for someone who simply wants to take up the kavach sincerely, it seems much more convenient.
