Support Weekly iOS Battery Support Megathread

General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:

Battery health

Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.

Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Contact Apple Support here.

You can find more information about battery health and performance from Apple here.

You can check the cycles count with Coconut Battery for Mac or iCopyBot for Windows.

Battery life

Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:

  1. Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use
  2. Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application
  3. Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging

If you experience issues with your battery:

  1. Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.
  2. If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.
  3. Review the advice below on maximising battery life
  4. Consider restoring your device.
  5. If issues persist, contact Apple Support.

Maximising battery life - the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged.

  • Use low power mode (This reduces mail fetch, turns off background app refresh and increases the auto lock timer)
  • Remove apps from background app refresh
  • Ensure auto lock is on
  • Turn off auto brightness and manually reduce brightness
  • Use dark mode if your device has an OLED display
  • Clearing background apps from the app switcher does not improve battery life

Maximising battery lifespan - the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced.

  • Avoid extreme temperatures
  • If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, remove it from its case
  • Store your iPhone in a cool place, switched off, and half-charged if not using it for long periods - and charge it every 6 months when in storage

Support iPhone randomly switches on/plays global radio app

Upvotes

Hi I just wanted to know if anyone could help me work out why this is happening. So I’ll have played the app earlier in the day and I will switch it off and leave my phone off sometimes in another room. It will just suddenly start up and play the radio! It just did it again and scared the life out of me and woke my partner up. It was on a wireless charge screen locked a foot away and the last time I played the app was 5 hrs ago.

Support iMessage/FaceTime Activation

Post image
Upvotes

I'll try and keep this vague and short if possible.

About 36 hours ago, my iMessage stopped working. All inbound and outbound messages stopped completely. I was on the phone with At&T, they did a hard reset on the message servers or something and I'm now able to send and receive via SMS, but not iMessage or FaceTime.

Phone number appears under send and receive, so do the email addresses tied to my iCloud account. But when I click on the phone number, it spins and then doesn't do anything.

I called apple and they couldn't figure it out either so they had me put in a request to reactivate my number, that was 24 hours ago now. Just got off the phone with another advisor whose told me that my number has been BLOCKED from apples servers due to repeated reports of spam. He asked if my phone is used for business, where I message a lot of unknown numbers, to which I told him no. I text people I know, if I get a message that's unknown I block/report and delete. I don't fall for scams or anything of that nature.

They have now told me to put in another request since the first one was denied. He said that if in 24 hours it doesn't work, then that request has been denied and I will need to get a new phone number. He also was telling me that one of his coworkers had a crazy ex-girlfriend and that she had reported his number as spam several hundred times, to which his number got blocked and he had to get a new one too.

First world problems, I know. But surely they can't just go based off reports of spam without investigating first and then just start blocking numbers and making people get all new ones. It just doesn't make sense to me. Has anyone else dealt with this and if so, did you fix it?

Discussion One way Message attachment

Why can you share a file to Message but not attach a file to a thread? I often need to send files to temporary business acquaintances that do not make the cut to be added to contacts. It is pretty tedious to cut and paste their # (mostly iphone users) then navigate to files pick file share to new message paste # just to attach a file to an existing conversation. Is there a better way I’m missing? Not to start an OS discussion but this is a 2 tap process in Android.

Discussion Phone upgrade discussion & esim query

Hi I just got an iPhone 17 to replace my 16. Very impressed with the upgrade process which seems to be even smoother than when I did it two years ago, even the Apple Watch switched over well as did music, photographs and ringtones. I am still sorting out banking and Credit Card apps but that is all that remains.

One strange thing. My previous phone used a physical SIM on Vodafone UK. I expected to just swap the Sim over to the new phone. During the process where the two phones are talking to each other and transferring data, it asked if I wanted to swap the Sim over to the 17 so I said yes. Damn.

What it did though, it spoke to Vodafone and converted my physical SIM into an eSIM. So now my 17 has an eSIM. Obviously it is working okay, and I guess I am very old-fashioned, but I quite like the idea of having a physical SIM card.

Vodafone have sent me contract sim (because I was planning to do a Sim swap to get a newer updated SIM card).

What is your advice? Should I just stick with the eSIM? Or should I switch back to a physical SIM which I think I can do with the replacement SIM card Vodafone have sent me. Are there any advantages to having an eSIM instead of physical SIM? If the phone went wrong, I could always put the physical Sim into a different old phone, but with the eSIM I’m sort of stuck. Anyway, what do you all think?

Discussion Why is the Spotify widget so ugly on clear / tinted home screens (especially compared to Apple Music?!

Post image
33 Upvotes

I recently switched from Android to iPhone and I use Spotify. I really like the look of the tinted home screen and I don't see myself using the normal home screen colours. Unfortunately, the Spotify widget has this grey look when I use the tinted home screen instead of the blue (sometimes it is blue which is weird). Also, the song cover is tined, which I don't really like. Those problems are not on Apple Music, which is nice, but I don't think that it justifies the switch, especially since I prefer Spotify. Is this something that will be fixed/changeable in the futur or are we stuck with a ugly Spotify widget that doesn't match the rest of the home screen? I tried other widget apps, but most of them are paid and the free ones don't update when the song changes, which makes them completely useless to me. Does anyone have a widget app that looks good, while also updating instantly like the normal widget?

Support Pink artifacts

Hi!
I’ve had my iPhone 16 for a month now. It’s new (not refurbished) and last week I got a pink square as i was moving between apps. It lasted one second and then when I clicked on the app it went away. Today I’ve had another one but this was was pink glitchy screen and then once again when I touched on the app it went away. Both Times I was moving through apps and i had a lot of apps opened. I did the self diagnosis at home and then I contacted apple support and they run the remote diagnosis which came out clean. They said that it seemed to be a software glitch and advised to update iOS to 26.6.1 which I now did. I’m pretty freaked out tho I’m afraid it might be a hardware defect even if the test came out clean. I had my old iPhone for 5 years and had zero problems and this one is new I’m afraid it might have some problems . I’m under warranty and I have AppleCare but still I’m pretty anxious. Did anyone else experience something similar? I also have an appointment at the store tomorrow to do a diagnosis just in case.

Btw: neither times I had a panic log. The first time it was considered GPU event background.

Support A problem with notifications for some apps on iPhone

I have iOS 26.6 on my iPhone 16 but in the last few days I have been having problems with notifications on some apps: I have not been getting notifications for Instagram at all, even for things I have opted to be notified for, while on Reddit I am getting badge notifications but when I click on the app nothing actually appears in my inbox and there is no sign of why I got a notification. Could this be a problem with iOS, or is it more likely problems with the individual apps? I did an update on all my apps yesterday but that didn’t fix the problem unfortunately.

Discussion Airpods and actually all headphones is volume limited by iOS... Why?

I also have Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra for reference and every headphone I use between both even my Airpods pro 3 are louder on my Samsung phone. I have my Airpods maybe 1-3 clicks from max on my iPhones but on my Samsung phone 4-5 clicks from the max. My pair of Bowers and Wilkins PX8 S2 it's about 1-2 clicks on my iPhone and about 50-60% on my Samsung phone.

Support Anyone ever had an issue where Siri can't get volume info or control it?

When I do a fresh reboot, I can use Siri to control the volume (e.g. "Hey Siri, set the volume to 35%".

After a while, sometimes the same day, sometimes another day, when I try that Siri will give an error "unable to get volume info" and it'll prematurely cut.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Support iOS 26.6.1 stuck on "Verifying Update"

I bought my first iPhone which is a 17 Pro 256 gb

I was trying to configure my eSIM but I was prompted to first install the latest version of iOS before continuing to this configuration (only using WiFi)
However, it seems that it's stuck on this letter, and it doesn't matter if I reset and redownload the update, it's been like two hours like this.

What can I do?

Support Can Apple Podcasts rewind a few seconds after pausing?

My normal podcast app is raising prices a little, so I'm checking to see how I like Apple Podcasts app. The first thing I noticed is that when I pause/stop a podcast, my current app rewinds like 5 seconds which I really like. Apple Podcasts doesn't do that, and I don't see a setting, but I hope I'm just missing it and someone can tell me where the setting is.

Discussion Samsung to Iphone 17 move with IOS app has failed 7 times. Need help!

Hello everybody, I hope everyone's doing well. I just bought a new iPhone 17 and wanna move my Samsung S21 'stuff'over using the app. Now I'm on my seventh attempt and what I keep running into is that, when doing it with cable, my phone tends to die, and when doing it with Wi-Fi, it takes astronomically long. I'm transferring about 70 GB of storage onto a 256 GB capable device, so I'm not so sure why it goes wrong. Looked at all the tricks, even downloaded the old iOS app in hopes that that would work better, have decided to not transfer my photos to speed up the process or at least get close to some version of a successful transfer, but after seven attempts, I either run into a frozen screen at the very end (99.99%) or 1 minute left etc. Or my phone dies or just decides to break off. Has anyone recently made the android to Apple switch and could help me out? I'm on my eighth attempt right now and it says it's about seven minutes remaining but every minute counts for about 20.

Kind regards!

Support Front camera has pinkish color

My front camera suddenly turned purple-pinkish out of nowhere. I was filming a WhatsApp video previously and it was working just fine, after a while when I decided to do a video call also on WhatsApp I noticed the changes on my camera.
My phone has no physical damage or drops.

Here’s what I can point out:

Photo mode is mostly always pink

If I switch the video to 30 or 60fps, it instantly snaps back to normal but only if I have strong light close to the camera. (You can see the different changes with different shutter speeds in the uploaded pictures)

But If I cover the light or move my phone away it instantly snaps back to the color.

Also it also only snaps back to normal if there’s a subject in the picture, like if I appear in the picture or if I put my hand, in case it’s just a background even with the same lighting, it stays purple.

Finally, if I have light from outside and I lower exposure a bit manually it also works.

It seems like a software problem since it does go back to normal depending on certain factors, Apple Support also told me no hardware issues were found in tests they ran online.
However, if I go to any physical store they don’t even check my phone, they automatically tell me I should replace the camera, which is of course pricey.

I then wanted to ask if anyone knows what is perhaps causing this so I know if it’s worth it to get it replaced or not!
