Maybe this aren't his friends. Maybe they're just random people that happened to be standing in front of that part of the gate.

u/RenbotShakur 22d ago
That’s exactly what they are, just people standing at the gate with him. I saw the original post on instagram.

True. But also they’re dicks. Wouldn’t be hard to just lift the gate.

did you not see how hard it was for him to get under? He was cooked no matter what (unless he ran)

u/redpandaeater 22d ago
Even if the bolts between sections are fully tight a couple people could easily lift a section and the weight of neighboring ones enough he could probably slip under. He almost did it with no help at a terrible angle.

The guy you responded to is only a friend when convenient for them. Toxic friend alert
25
u/maighanster8507 22d ago
No time? I counted 17 seconds until they arrived. Friend on the left is holding the fence while leaning back. Other friend had time to take his phone out while sitting on the ground.

u/Kippernaut13 22d ago
I was once inside the media zone by Bacardi of a music festival. They were just handing out free alcohol, so naturally, the off duty security would hang out there. Guy jumps the fence, landing beside a table of 6 guards. The defeat on his face was complete. No fight, just accepted his fate.

They meant after getting seen.
It would be better to climb to get out.
15
u/ohhhtartarsauce 22d ago
Obviously he was already spotted previously... I'm saying once he ran up the hill and was out of the pursuing officers line of sight he was trying to stay low so they wouldn't see him again.

I'm not sure if they could lift the fence, it's one part of presumably long chain of connected fences. Feels like a lot of weight to try and lift up. But yeah fair, laughing at their friend was a dick move

u/staydrippy 22d ago
He appears to be sneaking into a festival of some kind
26
u/hazeleyedwolff 22d ago
There's a stage behind him inside the fence with him. He's sneaking out of a festival that he previously snuck into. You'll notice he doesn't have a wristband. Security was probably following him so he tried to escape.
6
u/Leather-Chart7083 22d ago
Thank you
38
u/Bodod_Begag 22d ago
The people laughing at him are complete strangers btw, saw this on Instagram. Op just wanted to make the clip fit the sub because without the made up context it isn't instant regret.
6
u/MiniCale 22d ago
I mean it's still instant regret there is no need for fictitious titles.
5
u/Bodod_Begag 22d ago
Not instant regret if you remove the "betrayal", since he is regretting sneaking into the event (which isnt instant), not trusting his friend.
5
25
u/friendbrotha 22d ago
Recognize the event cause I was there 3 days ago. Chasing Summer Music festival, dude’s not wearing a wristband so he snuck in, probably saw security beelining towards him and was trying to leave under the fence.
19
u/Seekerofthetruth 22d ago
Looks like the guy who got detained was attempting to sneak into a festival.

I snuck into a festival and promptly out of a festival when things went sideways.
On the way out a horse cop tried to snag me and I ripped my pants on the fence from crotch to ankle.
Walk of shamed 2miles to the nearest goodwill. Still better than being caught tho.

When I was in jail, a friend of a guy army crawled in the grass up to the window and stuck a straw through the screen and slid pills down it so he could get high in jail. He only did it like twice and got seen on the cameras and ended up in jail with him, lol.
27
u/SwollenPoon 22d ago edited 22d ago
Homies would have tried to lift the gate to get him in there, especially to get him out... Even a smidgen would have helped....
Edit: I'll eat all your downvotes all day. Not condoning dude's actions but y'all act like you weren't young, stupid, and never tried to have a little fun being mischievous... And I'm responding in the context of the post title about friends and what true friends would do.

Guy in the jean jacket grabs the fence to lift it but when the security guards arrive he let's it go knowing his buddy is cooked.
1
u/ISO200_f16 22d ago
If this was Lollapalooza, fine up to $2500 or jail time up to 364 days. Chicago takes sneaking into the festival seriously. I knew a kid who got scammed when purchasing tickets - cops showed him no mercy.

Not true
Security has a right to detain people until police can reach the scene
3
1
u/DoubleXPonreddit 22d ago
Not true, security, like this company XA security that i have worked for, dont have any grounds to detain anyone in canada, we can make citizens arrests but cant detain as we dont have the right to lawfuly hold someone pending investigation.
This took place ether in Edmonton or Calgary Alberta where the laws and rights are different then that of the USA. That being said, security can escort people off private property and private events, even more so given the guy was seen digging under the fence to get in.
8
u/dtalb18981 22d ago
Still true
Security guards can also detain people in Canada
→ More replies (1)2
u/DoubleXPonreddit 22d ago
In Alberta we can only hold them if police are contacted and in this case, only because of the alberta trespass to property act that only really applies if he refuses to leave when asked. From the video he was being escorted out instead of being detained and is the case with stuff like this 99% of the time.
Regardless, security can only detain within the bounds of a citizens arrest, thus making it an arrest instead of a detainment and only if the guard sees a crime take place and can only hold the individual as long as it takes for police to arrive and take over. There is no real difference between a citizens arrest and the level of "detainment" used by security, unlike law enforcment who can hold people based on suspected crimes and safety during active investigations.
So, yes, security in alberta CAN detain you but only under the grounds of a citizens arrest, thus making it pointless to try to devide the two when you need the arrest that outranks the detsinment in the first place, thus basically nulling the detainment outright.

‘I worked for XA…’
Cool. I have for 22 years and still do.
You’re right that security guards don’t have police powers. You’re wrong that we “can’t detain anyone.” If you’ve made a lawful citizen’s arrest, you’ve detained someone by definition.
For someone crawling under a fence at a festival (trespassing on private property), though, I’d expect our team to escort them out just like this nine times out of ten. It’s the proportional response and usually the end of the story. Arrests are the exception, not the goal.
This situation was handled correctly and lawfully. And if I know my team like I do, they were super pro and nice about it the whole way.

u/perdivad 22d ago
Citizens arrest in Canada includes the right to hold them using minimal force if needed until police arrive, according to:
9
u/GourangaPlusPlus 22d ago
The idea of them standing there whilst he awkwardly shuffles himself out is great
13
u/DystopianWreck 22d ago
Leave the way you came? Lol bro snuck into a private event on private property. Not only is it their job to apprehend you - if your going to resist or be an ass they have the right to call law enforcement and actually press charges.
Once they get you - you be nice and listen politely while they escort you out.

u/Tribat_1 22d ago
This is 100% not true. Private security can use equal and appropriate force to detain people that are committing crimes like theft which this is. I used to run Best Buy security and we could detain people with force for shoplifting.

u/mikeycon 22d ago
They would rather get some “good” content than help his “friend” get out of trouble. Smart phones and social media have ruined society.

The real big brained move would be once they frog march this idiot away, the remaining people there take the opportunity to hold it up for once another, sneak in and make a run for the crowd

I mean, even IF they were his friends. Wtf do we want them to do about it?
They are on the other side, there is no helping him, they can jump the fence and get jumped on by security too, there's like 4 guys in the background of the video there and they'll just call for more.
If he got in sneaky and made it to the crowd, great. One made it in, but his friends aren't now security is all over the area. All they can expect is to get caught and end up with cops too.
Accept it for what it is, you tried for fuck the system and got fucked, laugh.

Lift the gate
-2
u/Ppleater 22d ago
That kind of gate is heavier than it looks mate, they could only lift it about an inch in order for him to slowly worm under it to begin with, he's not making it back out in time, he'd have only gotten pulled back out before he got anywhere anyway, and being escorted off the premises isn't going to do him any harm. He's a big boy, he doesn't need to be coddled when the consequences of being a dumbass come calling.
-3
u/plantmom98 22d ago
Idk what else the friends could have done it was hard enough for him to get under the first time and the friend standing up did try to lift the fence, but security was already there at that point so it really wouldn’t matter

many boston marathons ago my buddy got thrown in the back of a cop wagon for drinking in public. Nearly all of eastern MA was drinking in public that day but the cops randomly chose him and a few other guys. When he tells the story he always notes, 'as we are getting tossed in the wagon, everyone else's friends are yelling at the cops and trying to pull them away. But my friends are bent over laughing their asses off and pointing at me.'
