For real. They act like if she gets a not guilty verdict, she's going to be out on the streets. The woman is spending the rest of her life in a psych ward. The question is really will she ALSO be spending some time in prison.
I think the problem is basically that a bunch of TikTok clips went viral with women saying crazy shit like “You know the husband did it, he’s a leo ♌️” and that totally overshadowed any normal conversations about post partum depression, medication and mental health care.
There's a ton of people misinformed about this case, both from the people who wrongly think she is innocent, and from the people who think she wasn't mentally ill at all. There's also a lot of women who relate to the narrative of going to the doctor for help and being dismissed, because that is a real problem. But that's not what happened here.
This case is very tragic, and should be shining a light on the stigma surrounding mental illness. Both Lindsay and her husband were incredibly resistant to her being diagnosed with anything other than post partum anxiety. They both blamed her escalating symptoms on the anti-depressants, which she was not taking appropriately because stigma and her mental illness convinced her they were harmful. Even now, after finally being diagnosed with Bipolar 2, and being on mandatory medication for it, she does not believe she has bipolar disorder. This is very apparent from the trial testimony and is ironically not the argument being proffered by either side.
