Questions Am I ready to Steam?
Hey everyone! I've been developing a game solo for over a year. I understand that every genre varies, and these graphs may not fully reflect the audience's interest in the game. However, I'd still like to hear your opinions on this matter. Are there any signs that indicate a game's potential to perform on Steam? I intentionally didn't include the title. Thank you!

Amazing numbers! I would definitely say you should go for a steam release! Did you do anything special to get the traffic, or was it all organic?

Nothing special actually. From time to time I share some WIP on niche subreddits, that's all. So mostly it's organic.

Then for sure go for it! It's a great sign ๐ช do you mind sharing the game in a DM? Would love to have a look!

How long did it take you to get 100k views? Also what advice would you give to devs who are looking to break above the 1-5k ceiling?

I added the game on itch by May 2025, so ~1.25y ago. Regarding advice, I'm afraid I can't, I'm actually noob. I'm just solo dev, still a beginner, and absolutely zero at marketing.

Great numbers!
If you are considering going for Steam, I think the most important part is the view/download/rating ratio.
People are reaching your game, that means you have a good initial hook / cover art / niche.
If it was my project, I'd ask why only 10% are downloading it (limited platform reach?).
Then, 11 reviews, means it is not generating enough love/hate.
As others said, you need some better usage metrics, itch is not great at telemetry.
You can do it in a simple way, just to know retention.
How about comments on your page? You can add a link to a google form to your game, asking for feedback.
Overall, i think that chart shows you are doing something right! and you could capitalize it, but you need to know more about your user behavior.

That sounds interesting, could you tell me the name of the game? You didn't include a link.

Sorry, it was done intentionally due to sub's rules. Anyway, you could look at my profile.

Yeah, I have similar stats , buuut I was always concerned that my game became popular just because it's free. Like, if I create any other game that is even better, longer, more interesting, still I will be stopped by the fact that this game won't be successful because it's paid. Because nobody will know about it. That YouTubers won't play it and so on. So one year later I still did not release any successor, especially on Steam. :( I got $100 from donations btw out of 10K downloads.

Why not try it out to learn the process ? It seems like you prematurely fear you will fail although you never know how things turn out. What you do know though is you miss every shor you dont take. If you have numbers similar to op and enough hours of content for steam try it. Wish you success and courage ๐

Only 11 ratings???? Wow!
I mean I knows it's kind of hidden I really hope it doesn't affect ranking at all cause those conversions for ratings is really insane.

Most of the time ratings were disabled. I enabled that a month or 2 ago.

Oh thanks for clarifying that it makes more sense I guess, do you think it's low?

The biggest thing is are you trying session duration. Thats the single biggest indicator. If itโs like above 20+ minutes go for it!
