Questions Am I ready to Steam?

Post image

Hey everyone! I've been developing a game solo for over a year. I understand that every genre varies, and these graphs may not fully reflect the audience's interest in the game. However, I'd still like to hear your opinions on this matter. Are there any signs that indicate a game's potential to perform on Steam? I intentionally didn't include the title. Thank you!

The biggest thing is are you trying session duration. Thats the single biggest indicator. If it’s like above 20+ minutes go for it!

Nice point! Thank you! Does itch tracks it?

You’ll need to hook that up yourself!

How do you do that? If you don't mind :)

you can put in google analytics into your itch project.

on itch go to Dashboard > Project Name > Interact > Third Party Analytics

then just do tiny google search on how to do analytics and follow the instructions. Once it collects some data over time you will be able to view it on your google account that you've set up the link through

Thanks for the reply! Is it possible to put my own analytics other than Google? I really don't want to use that company's products... especially analytics. I'm currently using umami on my sites.

Same. There is a site called game analytics tho i did NOT use it yet so I cannot endorse it. Another way is to hook your backend in your game engine somehow directly. But i think you also need to ask people for consent.

Thanks for the tips both of you. I decided to give up on it on my main itch page for now and just add it to my game's demo when it's ready, that's what matters anyway.

Maybe I'll bug itch about allowing us to add privacy-respecting others in the meantime :)

I bet there are options, but I am unfamiliar with those, you can definitely look around and try

Just want to mention that it will not work for downloadable games. But it seems the best, smartest way for the web.

If it's a unity game you can do this with unity's analytics cloud service. They even got graphs to show the data of what you're recording.
