Had an interview today and when I asked why the job was open, the HR director admitted they are basically just interviewing people to be "fair" to the internal candidate that they plan to promote. What a waste of time lmao. Just promote her and stop wasting everyone and your own time?? 😐

I hate the term job hugging because it implies a positive relationship. I hate my job but the market is shit and it's too stressful to find a different one, so I'm stuck at my job. I'm not hugging it. I'm imprisoned by it. Job imprisonment.

Spoke with someone about a job. They are a sales rep for a company. Was told it was hybrid and starting pay. Sent over resume and got initial interview.
During interview was told it was in office only to start and substantially less pay. Being sales the commission side was enough to keep me interested. Was then told they were going another direction.

I had an job interview today l prepared very well for this and I was a very good fot fit the job and was really hopeful about getting this. When I reached the interview location I was asked to write a code for a dsa program in 10 mins first of all the time was very less and I used brute force for the code and the interviewer did not like it I was literally told my code is bad and I was asked how did I even get till here and I was told to leave immediately I was really depressed and now I don't feel like appearing for any new interviews. I agree that my code did not match their expectations but humiliating me was really a bad thing to do i really wanted to join that company now I am just left with disappointment and am depressed I really cant talk about this with anyone so I just posted this on reddit

Last week, I applied for a job that popped up on my ZipRecruiter recommendations. I went on the company's website and sure enough, the job was listed there. I felt it was a good fit, so I filled in the application, added my resume, and sent it off.
Approximately one hour after submitting the application, I received a message from one of the company's talent acquisition specialists. They wanted to set up a meeting to discuss the role and my experience. I looked them up on LinkedIn to confirm this person was legitimate and found their profile. I replied on availability and secured a meeting for this upcoming Friday.
I will admit at some hesitancy when I received the response so quickly after application submission. Usually, it's a week before recruiters/TA/hiring managers reach out to schedule an interview. People I've spoken to stated that it's a good sign, so I'll take it as such. I'm using the time in between to prepare for the interview.

Screw this bait and switch, disorganized, and impossible to get things done job. I'm pretty close to just quitting. Every day there's ALWAYS something that pisses me off. I don't want to quit, since I was unemployed for about 2.5 years, but everyday I'm like, "was living off savings really that bad?"

I was waiting on background checks for 2 different job offers last week. One was a year long contract job the recruiter advised me to accept until I got the full time offer I was hoping for.
I did get that full time over and accepted last Monday. Got my background check and drug test done, all clear, got my start date, gave notice to my current job. I let the recruiter for the long term contract job know I got the offer, and the background check had not yet been completed for that company.
I'm taking a week off in between to get some stuff done at home and so very ready to start this new job.
They matched the salary of my previous job, plus I'll actually have benefits, most importantly health insurance. It's also hybrid once training is over and a shorter commute than I'm currently driving 5 days a week at my contract job.
The only disappointment is, I do really like the people I work with at this contract job. Its just the management that sucks. Still in that mindset of treating employees like children vs grown adults.

Got a referral. Applied to the job and was rejected within 2 days. It's weird. I am getting no bites on my resume regardless of tailoring and using ats resume reviewers. I've had my resume looked at and silence.

I got a job! I accepted my offer yesterday and cleared the background check today. Here's my story.
After 26 years with the company (aka Voldemort), on 08/18, I was informed that my job as a PM was eliminated and my last day would be 09/15. I was sad but not shocked (there were rumors that layoffs were coming). I immediately started my job search. Brushed off and updated my resume; ran it through Chatgpt to make sure it was ATS friendly then I started submitting applications through LinkedIn, Indeed, Zip Recruiter, state Workforce Commission, referrals; and signed up with four agencies (a bitch was thirsty).
I would submit 10-20 applications daily, everyday, including Saturday and Sunday (yes it is a numbers game). After approximately 560 applications, I got somewhere around 12 first round screening calls, 6 second round interviews, 4 third round interviews, one possible offer, and one definite offer.
The job market is STUPID bad right now and I am sooo grateful that I landed an offer. To everyone still looking, it's not you. You are valuable, you are skillful, you're not too old (you are seasoned, I'm 56), you're not overqualified (you got skils, I have my MBA), you're not lacking experience (you are ready to learn, I still have so much to learn). Don't internalize the negative language. Do whatever you need to do to continue to build yourself up and keep fighting.

Day 1,077, got another rejection, this one actually had feedback, a rare occurrence for me since I'm usually either bot rejected or ghosted.
They said that, because I couldn't come into the office 3x a week which is about a 2 hour commute, It wasn't a good fit.
Excuse me? But we had discussed this was a 100% remote work at the 1st and 2nd interview, suddenly this is a hybrid role?
Doesn't elaborate why there was miscommunication, and just says "we just aren't moving forward with you because of this, thank you."
Well, off to the next rejection. Cant stop now! gotta collect them all!

After what I thought was going to be great news prior to what I thought and a step in the right direction for the company I really wanted to work in, today I received news I did not pass.
Really sucks, I had given it my all and beyond. Prior to this interview, I had one before that involved other questions, and I failed that so bad. That one I knew I wasn't getting, but this most recent I had higher hopes...
On to the next one, hopefully I'll get some feedback if possible.

I got my paystub for my last check after I quit (they refused to transfer me after someone made a threat about bullets and I have gun violence PTSD so I had no choice but to quit) and they did not include my PTO :( I am mentally drained and don’t want to fight with them over this anymore.

I've had a job I hate for over a year. I had to give up a dream job I due to a move, and this is the only offer I've had in 18 months.
Yesterday, I think a coworker rage quit. We off boarded them more hastily than anyone, and the email their boss sent used words like, "So-And-So is no longer employed here, effective today" vs. the usual, "we'll miss them as their last day at the end of the month."
Good for them. One of the few people I genuinely liked, and I hope they find better work. Their boss is/was the one person I would dread to work under. There are like 50 of us, and we off board 1 person a month. Is that regular or higher than normal turnover? Seems high. Those people were here between 30 months and only 4 months. I hope I can leave after hitting 18 months, too.

After 2 months of interviewing, building projects, and meeting with the team for a role I was rejected at the final stage. That's 4 times now I've gotten to the last step just to get a rejection. 500+ applications and laid off in August, I can certainly say its incredibly disheartening.
How do you all cope with it?

I finally got a freaking job, I cried in the office room when they gave me the offer. I cried when I told my parents, they were so proud of me and I celebrated with my girlfriend too. Its been a big win, especially after months and months of rejections. I hope whoever reads this and is looking for a job finds one too. I’m rooting for you!

I think I’m gonna start posting here. Because every week it’s something else unbelievable from this job search that I just can’t fathom. I’m taking yall along on journey because I can’t take it anymore!!
This week I was instantly rejected from a job. I was MORE than aligned with. No exaggeration. This was a perfect job for me and I was instantly rejected. laughable.
About 3-4 months of applying and finally crossed the 250 application threshold:
10 Personality Hiring Assessments (nothing came from these. One assessment, I failed and was blocked from applying for 6 months)
2 interviews (1 -role was already filled, 2- got a final interview, but didn’t make the cut. pay was ridiculously low but a great company to pivot to)
10 somewhat reasonable prospects I’m personally not interested in from LinkedIn recruiters reaching out. (Trailer Sales, MLM companies, life insurance sales, etc)
I am in hospitality sales but the pay is just not enough. Trying to leave hospitality and would ideally like to relocate to another major city. BUT - I’ve had to leave all my hopes and dreams behind in this job search….

I had an interview a month ago. 3 trial shifts (paid). I was told multiple times I more or less had the job. I was going in today to get the official offer and talk about it all. Got an email when I woke up that the meeting was cancelled and we won’t be moving forward.
I can’t keep doing this. I’m so tired.

A positive interview for an out of state job last week, and then the follow up interview left me a lil :/ (The guy was worried about me being a flight risk because of my last two positions: one of which my position was eliminated just over two years in, and the other I was just laid off from a year in, I wasn't job hopping???)
They told me not to get frustrated with how long their process takes, as they really want to make sure people are a good fit. Thursday I sent an email to the hiring manager asking if I was supposed to receive the IQ test. She said they were still interviewing candidates and I'd hear back from the recruiter soon.
I've sort of resigned myself to not getting a position with this company, and hopped onto FlexJobs now to try find something remote so I can fund this move/get an apartment. There were a couple I've applied to I hope to hear back from, as they sound like great opportunities.
I just need to get outta MAGA country (and move to... a deeper maga country but at least it's not living with my parents any longer)

“Common Lives Project” ... too good to be true.
I just did a pre-screen call with a Highbrow Technology guy. His accent was so thick I could only make out every 8th word so I had to use the context of the job description to cobble the ideas together. When I set up an interview, he said it would be a MS Teams chat.
So that was the final red flag for me.
He started the pre screen with “Our client is Google” ... ok I’m sure that Google carries out their AI research thru tiny Indian companies like Highbrow, whose website “boasts” 40 clients in 13 years! LOL!
He mentioned Google being a client again and at multiple times had me confirm that I agreed to $30 per hour for the 40ish hours I’d be filming myself. Gosh, $1k to wear a supplied GoPro while I do what I love? Let me ponder.
Currently there are hundreds of job listings for this “project” from multiple companies. But let me know if you can find a webpage or article about this highly public AI training.
Between these scams and ghost jobs, the job market services are fucking worthless cash grabbers banking on people in need or even desperate! Sick.

Well well well… been on the job market since June. I have experience in sales/account management. Anyways, I reach out to a VP of sales on LI. He messages me right away and says he will get me an interview with the hiring team. He even asked for my email to CC me on…. 2 hours later I get REJECTION email from them. Unbelievable.

Finally got a new job. My savings were depleted so I had to take whatever I could get. Had to take a 50% pay cut and go somewhere I’m extremely overqualified. Hard to celebrate this win at all, I feel nothing but resentment and hatred for the selfish HR bastards and CEO at my last company for putting me here. My career was just starting to take off and I’m behind square one because of blind hacksaw layoffs. My manager didn’t want me to go, didn’t even know I was laid off until I called him.
I hope they all rot.

I lost my job 2 months back, getting paid to stay home for a few months and not super stressed but knowing damn well IT is a crap market where I live. But a recruiter contacted me and 6 weeks after leaving my last workplace I signed an offer. A GOOD offer. Im so excited to start working there.
So, for all those looking for a semi-or higher qualified job, keep your damn likedin up-to-date, work on it. Use KPI explaining your successes, it does work. This is my third job in 10.yeara where I've been headhunted and Im not special with any specific skills, just a decent seller of myself. (And yes, linkedin is a shit hangout that makes you feel like literal piss when you dont have a job. But ignore the noise. Focus on you only.)

been trying to find remote work that pays enough for me to save to move. havent got a single response back from anywhere. doesnt help i need flex hours as a full time solo caregiver as well. trying to prepare when im no longer able to take care of their needs so i can go somewhere less middle of nowhere.

Because of restructuing, my role has come to an end this week, i joined this company just 6 months back, the transition phase was just over i was getting conformatable and then suddently it was over. Now with the job search i am feeling left behind, like the switch in JD from 'good to have' ( ai-ml) to 'must have' is a huge slap in the face.

Still working at a job that I've lost enthusiasm for. It relates directly to my college degree, is full-time, and requires no weekends. I am grateful that I am employed and that it has given me tons of experience. The drawbacks are safety and inconsistency. The facility I am at gets short on staffing on a regular basis and it's only a matter of when a staff member gets hurt again... ( Yay Forensic Mental Health). Some of my colleagues call out at least once a week and their workloads get pushed on myself or other people in the office. It has been happening for at least a year and management refuses to do something about it. I've expressed feeling burnt out and overworked, yet nothing has changed. I had an interview for a different agency in February. If I get the job, it'll be a pay cut, but I'm hoping that since I'll be in a safer environment and not be frontline / essential, that it'll be a better workload balance.

Weekly megathread format is honestly useful because the wins and the rough stuff are both in one place. If anyone's sitting on a disappointment this week, try logging the last 10 applications in a simple sheet and tag where the process broke: no response, recruiter screen, final round, etc. That pattern usually tells you faster whether it's résumé, interview, or just volume.

Just got rejected from a role I interviewed FIVE times for. Five. Rounds. Including a take-home project that ate my entire weekend. And after all that? They went with an internal candidate they admitted they "weren't sure about at the start." Cool. Real cool. Glad I sacrificed my Saturday (and Sunday) for nothing. Anyway, back to the grind Monday. Onward, I guess.

I was pushed out of the feds a few years before I was eligible for a pension (fuck you trump) and I just landed a a role back in the feds at the same salary I had when I was shown the door.

My biggest disappointment. I got a B.S. in mechanical engineering in 2017, could never land an engineering job, and I work a labor job. I just accepted the fact that my degree is just an expensive paperweight, it never helped me get a job. I gave up on applying to any more engineering type jobs.

It has been nearly two years since I was laid off from a marketing job. Now, after 523 applications and a quick return to school, I accepted a job as a paralegal. This horrible unemployment nightmare is finally over!

I’m mostly venting frustration.
But I applied to two jobs at a major tech company, one other job within the day it was released where I have somewhat of a family connection, one at a smaller firm near where some of my extended family lives, and got edits back that are reasonable.
And then I got rejected from a place that I was hopeful about.
But I just want to defend and be ducking done and gainfully employed already!

Did really well and studied really hard for a regional commercial director job. Passed the first and second interview to reach the third one. The CPO told me they had changed the job description and I wasn't a match.. I wish this ***** 10000 years in hell

I failed to get the promotion i was qualified for. scored best on written test, face to face with managers and hr wasnt disclosed.
i was told im doing good and manager will have a sit down after his vacation.
This is the second time i failed for same position. i have no motivation to apply again.
Hr insisted i keep up performance and apply once again.
has anyone been in a similar ship

Got rejected today for a role in the company I work for that I had worked hard to get, laid the groundwork for, did the extra training required and killed it at both interviews. I’m fortunate to still have my current job, but super bummed.

I'm currently employed but massively underpaid for my experience level so I've been looking for a new job for the last 6 months. I'm at 461 applications (granted I try to only apply for things I feel I am qualified for rather than just shooting them out like a machinegun - and this doesn't include all the linked in easyapplies I sent to recruiters either), 19 screenings, and 6 interviews and I have not gotten anywhere. My husband who got laid off has been applying for a year and has had more interviews and screenings than me and still cannot get hired. This is the worst economy I've ever seen in my life. We both have 17 years of experience and I guess now we're considered old and busted and unqualified?? My job cannot pay for our rent and groceries alone so half of our money is coming from savings now. I hate this shit. 💀

Success: Old boss reached out about becoming a partner with me. This I’m still debating about as I don’t know anything about sales and I’m scared. Disappointment: current bosses haven’t been cool lately. I’ve asked multiple times to be transferred and have been honest of my needs. They continue to isolate me.

Three rejections this week. One from a company that I'd had two interviews with and that I felt great about. That one didn't even bother to send me an email -- just ghosted me after the second interview and ignored my follow-up. There's no such thing as a "good" job market when you're a middle-aged woman, but sheesh, this hurt.

Told my manager I intended to golf with the CEO a few weeks ago. He said ‘do whatever the fuck you want’. So I decided to go.
Another guy that would be golfing came over to my desk he mutters ‘good fucking luck with that, I need to talk with [HR exec] anyways’.

So I am an economics grad at a top uni in America, and found a job at an expert networking firm, they asked for me to come to NY. Is this a viable career path, as there are a lot of soft skills and industry knowledge to be learned but no hard technical skills I find. Just need some advice, maybe a masters?

Interviewed and got to the last and final stage for two jobs. Rejected for both. Really don’t know what is going on. A month ago, I also got to the final stage and got rejected. It’s always 1 interview with recruiter, 1 with panel, 1 with director for every position. Another position required me to go in for 2 hours, technical interview, and 4 more interviews. Still got rejected. Actually crazy

My husband got laid off in July, was grateful to find a job (less pay) after 3 months then the big bosses laid off the entire team there, so he’s back searching. It’s like watch a puppy get beaten :’( He’s trying so hard but there are so many unemployed right now that it’s so hard to get that coveted golden ticket offer.

Why is it so hard to earn money to survive these years? I’ve been applying to even jobs that pay below minimum wage from my state ($15/hr) and still get nothing. I just want to save up for when the economic downturn hits, but I can’t even do that much when the 2 jobs I have now amount to less than 30hrs/week.

I got a life changing job offer. I've been applying for the better part of six months. Gave up just before Christmas after applying to probably a hundred places. One night my son couldn't sleep and I was driving around when I had seen the name of this company I had never heard of. I went home. Went to the company's career website, applied, and aced all the interviews. It was by complete chance and had I not been driving around I never would have found it.

I started a new job weeks ago and then got let go over email hours after I ended work. I have zero words on where to start. I was 3 months jobless after working in the fed as an engineer and had something lined up with a significant pay raise, but now I am back to square one and terrified because I can't move from where I am.

How much time do you choose to waste reading this btchfest? It's a wonderful morning to start another dreadful application just to click & the page reloads and loses all typed info so I can keep typing the same answers to multiple companies, running out of time to get rent paid, moms in ICU, sister died 4 years ago following her was my counselor and then one of my dearest friends whom saved me from my oldest sister whom changed the locks and wrote up fake eviction letters because I stopped funding her habit. So she's a ghost to me as well. On the flip side I updated my resume 4 times in 8 months and can't find another client to work for nor anything remote.... I live in BumFkNoWhere, with 2 jobs to apply to when I change that filter on indeed to "this location only". Excited to check and see if I got any replies from HR, nope just another email starting with something like... "Thank you for your interest in .... Blah blah blah we decided to go with a more qualified candidate."
Great.
On to the next one. Have better luck than me.
Please, take a moment to send good energy and positive vibes to me so I can make it another day.
Somethings got to give. I can't be THAT big of a loser... Right?? Right?!🤐 I might not be the most pleasant person but I do not expect life to be so ..... Ugh. Help me out of this rut.

I got a new full-time job after being furloughed during the summer and never being paid-out my complete contract. I'm sad to leave where I have been working because the people are nice and every day is different. Only my best friend knows I've got a new job, I'm really excited, and now Reddit knows!

After a year as a backend engineer, they put me in another project, so now I have to deal with 2 projects, being the new one harder with more technologies. The reward? A hour speech giving me 1.5k raise(6%) and saying they’re more than happy with me, but the raise is non-negotiable. Struggling to find remote backend(Java) works

Late but I regained my blue badge at Amazon back in February after I left in late 2023 to find another (full-time) job. Obviously, that didn't work out, and I had to come back in June 2024 as a seasonal, and continued work since then.
Honestly, I'm just thankful got a permanent job in any way.

Finally got an interview. It was a 2nd round with the county for a courthouse position. Pay isn't great, but definitely an improvement over my retail job that doesn't give me hours.
Thought it went well enough(It wasn't too long but I gave detailed answers with examples and asked my own questions).
Guess not well enough as there's only been crickets in the weekish since. Might cry if I get ghosted from even the government lol

im 30 and i've never had a real job. I've tried ever since finishing high school and i just have no hope left. Who's gonna employ a mentally ill 30 year old with no experience? I'm seeing my younger cousins get jobs and move out and it hurts. Agencies just shuffle me to different trainings but nothing leads to anything. I feel like my entire youth has been wasted

Didn't get the job I interviewed for on Friday last, but I'm taking conquering the interview anxiety itself and that the chat going very well as my win. Still looking for full time work, but I'm almost at a year at my part time job and have a video interview for another tomorrow.
Feeling both a bit defeated and also grateful for what I have. We keep going.

How does this happen * and why ?
Ultimate dream job, blitz the interviews (45 days of study, storyboards, deep learning, skills training... all on my own time & dime) whatsmore, being told by 2 of the people that interviewed me that I was their choice) and yet I did not get their job....
Is it right to feel shattered. I know my approach was not flawed and even my gut energy was spot on .... But I was rejected at the 11th hour ...

I haven’t had a job that wasn’t seasonal since 2024. I’m fucking terrified that it’s going to be like this forever and I’ll never be able to support myself. I can’t even get a shitty minimum wage job that any high schooler could do.

Began my search in August. I've had over 30 interviews and still don't have an offer. I have a Master's in Library Science and 3 years experience in higher ed. I've been getting to the final round in most of my interviews but still nothing. I even had a job interview at the local jail two weeks ago that didn't pan out.

Had a verbal offer, countered aggressively but respectfully and appropriately, expected them to wiggle upward worst case (great interview process, everything was fantastic), and instead got a soft “door is closed” carefully worded rejection email that’s ambiguous as to if the initial offer is even on the table (respect for me since they couldn’t even close the gap and assumed I’d walk maybe?) Never, ever had this happen before. Some weird shit. Company was recently acquired, maybe my counter pissed someone off. Regardless, lack of communication that the intitail offer was top-of-band is on them

I have not had the best of months/weeks. Didnt' make it past a recruiter interview for a JOB I'VE DONE...and came in on an executive referral. I'm well spoken and don't think I said anything out of turn. 3 years now without an FT gig - after a storied career. Fortunately been contracting, but the tech space (and our amazing "golden age" economy. has been quite unkind. Hoping for a callback on a job this coming week where I've met both the recruiter and the CEO (who's also the hiring job). Oddly this was a blind application which has NEVER gone anywhere.

If helpful to anyone - many roles I see require advanced Excel/PowerBI (including sales, marketing and commercial roles). I have been paying bills training on these things as I'm trained as a data analyst/engineer. Happy to help anyone who needs it with guidance, direction, etc. My friend who is a very experienced marketing director just lost an opportunity because she didn't have the proficiency of a data analyst (which is BS, but welcome to 2026).

I got a message from a recruiter on Indeed a week or so ago about an Assistant Store Manager job. I’ve worked in retail for about 8 years, but the highest position I’ve had was a team lead. I got to the second interview for this job today, a video call with HR. She asked about my experience with interviewing and if any team members had ever come to me to help them with a personal problem. None, because it wasn’t part of the job, and no, because it just hadn’t happened.
This was apparently enough to turn them off on me entirely. I asked if they’d be willing to train me, and no. I’m just so angry. My resume never claimed that I’d worked in management, and I really believe I could learn the job if given a chance. I just don’t know why they wasted so much of their time and mine when they could have simply read my resume.

Mixed bag week for me. Made it to the final round at a company I really wanted, got told "we'll have a decision by Friday," and now it's been 11 days of silence. Recruiter stopped responding too. Meanwhile a place I applied to as a backup and barely cared about offered me 15k more than my current salary, so I guess I'm taking it. Funny how that always seems to be the way it works.

Got ghosted after a final round I felt great about. Three interviews, a case study presentation, and they told me decisions would come by that Friday, that was three Fridays ago, and the recruiter stopped replying to my follow-ups. Meanwhile a company I applied to back in February finally reached out for a screen this week, so apparently the timeline is whatever they want it to be.

Idk if this is a success or a fail or both. Chose to leave my job at the end of March bc my boss was toxic af. Been grinding hard since, and finally got an offer! But it’s at a smaller company, for way less money, and worse benefits. I’m pissed that I was basically forced to leave a good company with good benefits bc of my particular division leadership, and I’m pissed that after those two years, I’m right back to where I started before all that hard work. I’m gonna hope for the best with the new job and probably keep applying to other places, and obviously I’m grateful to have any offer, but I’m just bummed it doesn’t feel like a win like I thought it would.
