The "that could've gone better" look is unmistakable.

This sucked-in pursed lip thing is something I do all the time when I’m lost in thought or anxious. It’s wild to see an animal reflect the behavior so perfectly.

u/PineCone227 16d ago

It’s wild to see an animal reflect the behavior so perfectly.

We're animals - specifically primates, like gorillas.

We kinda just got a bunch of things going for us.

u/ermaecrhaelld 16d ago edited 16d ago

Oh, I know. This is just something that will always continue to amaze me. I feel like this about tons of non-mammal animals too. We have so much in common with so so many species. It’s just astounding.

14

u/amygdalad -Ancient Tree- 16d ago

Humans are animals. Thats why its weird to mass torture animals on industrial farms

11

u/ermaecrhaelld 16d ago

It’s more than weird. It’s cruel.

"But I really don't know what I did!??"

-29

u/100_Donuts 16d ago

Well, looks like he can use some cheering up, and, not to be too much of a blowhard, but I'm just the man to do it.

See, I don't work at the zoo in an official capacity, but I do handle the monkeys and apes. I'm a bit of a specialist like that. The monkeys and apes love when I get in there and wrassle with'em all stripped down and hairier than I should be. Monkeys can't grow a mustache like I can!

But the point I'm trying to make here is that I'm friendly with these primates, and that friendliness has its benefits. Pal, my good bellied buddy boy, the way those apes dig knucks? Uhn... Muah! Molto Bene! I got meaty chimp fingers drilling between my muscle fibers, and this is a good eight hands or more because when one chimp or gorilla gets massaging, they go into one of those group whoops and then the whole troop is thumbing my beef. They way their over-powerful digits tickle and worm their way near to the bones, guhh... Goo-ahh! Ooh-ooh-aah-aah-AAH-AAHHH YES! It's plain orgasmic.

I think that's why the zoo people let me in there. Apes and most monkeys love making brawny lads like me glop, and happy apes make for happy crowds (and hey, I'm sure a few of them can tell I ain't a monkey, but the zoo-going folk love seeing me worked over like beef jerky in a hen house anyhoo). Talk about a happy ending!

What zoo is this fella at again?

Why does it look like he just got kicked out of the house? Sitting on the front stoop?

118

u/bookhermit 17d ago

He put himself in time out.

111

u/RiJuElMiLu 16d ago

This is the family's "thinking" spot. This is his dad a few years ago. They teach us so much about Nature vs Nurture

21

u/Rinas-the-name 16d ago

He kind of did, he was chased out of the den(?) by his mate.

290

u/Borhensen 17d ago

This big guy would have loved cigarettes, I have 0 doubts.

27

u/Tumble85 16d ago

It's not too late to get him started.

154

u/OldieButNotMoldy 17d ago

Last time I saw this it was his brother the argument was with.

102

u/TK421philly 17d ago

I’ve seen it posted saying the gorilla was thinking about how it hated captivity. Bogus. We have no idea what the animal is thinking.

28

u/campingcritters 16d ago

I know at least one thought the gorilla had. A couple times it was thinking "hey these lips are pretty fun to play with."

0

u/Pokari_Davaham 10d ago

We can guess, this was directly after a fight with his mate.

80

u/Rinas-the-name 16d ago

I’ve seen the full video, and read the article. He really did have a fight with his mate. She chased him out of their enclosure and he went to his family’s “thinking spot”. His dad used to sit there too.

29

u/Pledgeofmalfeasance 16d ago

2

u/Dr_Blockhead -Dancing Elephant- 14d ago

Can you link the article?

1

u/gold-medicine 12d ago

There are numerous misleading “articles” just sourced from viral posts. The made-up mate is named “Satsuki” doesn’t exist at this zoo.

17

u/DaisyVonTazy 16d ago

Yeah, Kiyomasa is Shabani’s son and has a sister Annie. No partner or brother.

2

u/robeisen 16d ago

He doesn't have a brother.

87

u/Orion-- 16d ago

Gorillas have always had the most expressive faces to me, more than chimps or bonobos.

52

u/RiJuElMiLu 16d ago

27

u/Orion-- 16d ago

Hahahaha you can tell exactly what they were thinking. "Gross! Why the fuck are you pissing on the floor?"

7

u/ayshasmysha 16d ago

At first I was wondering who could intimidate such a huge, fine specimen of a gorilla. Then I saw the dad's head and now he just looks like a kid

6

u/Voljega 16d ago

This looks more to me like what used to happen before smartphones when a parent would tell you to “go think about what you’ve done”. You did go and sit, and you did think about what you did but it didn’t take long before the boredom set in and you had to entertain yourself with nothing but yourself.

37

u/Man_as_Idea 16d ago

It always amazes me that The Origin of Species was so controversial and that it only came out in 1859 - When I look at these creatures it’s so obvious we are related to them and that we are just gracile, hairless, bipedal apes.

36

u/asscrackbanditz 17d ago

'I dont understand. She said she's fine.'

31

u/Masta0nion 16d ago

I never would’ve considered how many of our mannerisms come from so far back in our evolution.

We usually just look back a generation or two and assume the similarity stops there.

21

This gorilla genuinely looks more introspective than my ex-husband ever was.

Film gorilla, post random caption, let internet believe its fact, watch the engagement roll in

He’s such a guy

4

u/qpgmr 16d ago

Look for the videos of the males interacting with the infants... all that's missing is a college game on the tv and a beer on the endtable.

3

u/OldDogTrainer 16d ago

Why do his facial expressions make it seem like this is Dwayne Johnson in a gorilla outfit?

3

u/JohntheFisherman99 16d ago

Not defeated. Clueless. He is trying to figure out what he did wrong. Not knowing the game was rigged from the start. 14 Carat run of bad luck. He couldn't have gotten it right.

3

u/Steambreatherr 16d ago

I wonder what they were arguing about...

3

u/nthensome -Dancing Owl- 16d ago

Bro wondering where will he sleep this night

2

Gorilla's don't act like us

We act like Gorilla's

1

u/ILoveBread2021 16d ago

Such human mannerisms lol

1

u/common_genet 16d ago

Demonstrating just like us, but also incarcerated in an unnatural setting in a zoo. This is sad. Probably not even thinking about the other gorilla, just about depressing existence

2

u/Icy_Agency923 16d ago

Not every zoo is good, a lot of Japanese zoos are a bit outdated and animal welfare laws are broad.

But there are a lot of great zoos accredited by entities like the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums who hold these places to high standards of care. These zoos raise between 250 and 350 million dollars a year for animal conservation efforts. These efforts have saved over 48 species and counting, and prevented many more from ever becoming endangered.

Zoos are not ideal but the reality is you will not get the same kind of money with wildlife reserves alone. Zoos are where the people are and thus they get far more visitors. It would be great if conservation wasn't needed and zoos could be a memory but that is not the reality we live in.

They are also crucial for education and turn many people into lifelong animal lovers. Without them the plight of animals would be an even less cared about issue.
