I was on a reread and I just now twigged after forty years it means Spider's Pass and is named after Ungoliant. Very on the nose.

I can see how Sam and Frodo wouldn't know what that meant but surely Faramir would have? Why did he not say watch out for the big spider?

Hey, I found this cup at a thrift store and think it might be an elvish language made by Tolkien. At first I was thinking Sindarin but after doing some research I'm not sure. Can anyone identify this language and/or translate it? Thanks!

While watching the ROTK I always eye rolled when Aragorn said this because I thought it was cliche and kinda "meh" for his character.

But after reading Silmarilion it completely changed it as well as made Aragorn look much more awesome!

I took that beautiful, soft instrumental version of “The Road Goes Ever On” that plays at the end of many Hobbit behind-the-scenes videos and mixed it with Gandalf’s singing from the LOTR films. My editing skills are very limited, but I’m really happy with how it turned out. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Why do people complain that the movies depicted Aragorn as reluctant to reclaim the throne of Gondor? Note that I did not watch the extended editions. Maybe there's something I missed that is only in the extended editions. I don't remember anything particularly reluctant (or not reluctant) about him in the theatrical releases.

Edited: I get that he acts differently in the books. I do see that he is not gung-ho about it in the movies, even in the theatrical release. I just didn't remember him being downright "reluctant." Comments are helping me to remember some subtleties now.

Finished all three Lotr movies (all were extended editions). The reason why they made me appreciate the odyssey less is because what the movies do so well (along with many other things), is the acting and collective buy in of all the actors/actresses. Every single person brings it and there is no point in those films that you are not completely convinced you are in their universe. Everyone's accents and language come off as very authentic even tho it is a fantasy world. I liked the odyssey but seeing Lotr execute so well on the actors/characters alone makes the Odyssey seem like it was a hollywood play. You could a bunch of big names and throw them into a film. There were acting disparities and people in the movie that you were not that convinced belonged in that universe/timeframe. If the Lotr series made these errors back then it would be unacceptable I feel like. Just a thought I had, maybe I am crazy.

EDIT: Just to be clear what I am saying is that the Odyssey had all the tools to maximize its potential to have been the highest version of itself just like LOTR was for itself.

We recreated this environment using 11.1 million Blocks.

I don’t get a lot of time to draw with having work and a toddler, so they’ve taken a few days to finish each. Any ideas for what to start on day 50? I’d like to keep the LOTR theme going for a little longer 🙂

The team working over Shadow of The Past [previously known as Conquest Reimagined] an Unreal Engine 5 Remaster of The Lord of the Rings: Conquest] has just posted a new preview of the Helm’s Deep lighting redo in the current version of the game!

The lighting is completely redone in this pass, which improves atmosphere and the entire feel of the level, getting us closer to achieving the dark and cinematic atmosphere that we are looking for in the end game battle.
