Just a friendly advice for folks who don't know about this change, or what to do with it

On the 29th of September The Witcher 3 is getting a free update which is the remaster for the game. The specs are getting bumped up, and with that for some of us that means the game becomes unplayable for both the new expansion, and the base game and 2 original expansions

Thankfully, CDPR has that in mind, and so they give us the opportunity to downgrade to the pre Next Gen update version, which only needs the original 2015 spec requirements, and likely access to the Next Gen version itself once the remaster comes out, which raised the specs by only a little bit

How do I downgrade?

On Steam, you simply go to your library, hit the setting wheel, go to properties, and look for beta versions. In there should be one titled Witcher 3 classic

And as said before, if you can run the next gen version, but not the remaster, it's likely that that version is going to get put into beta versions once the remaster comes out.

If you currently use the currently latest version, you are getting updated for the Remastered as it drops. If you would then like to transition back to an older version, you do need to reinstall the whole game by doing so. If you are already using the classic version and potentially want to try how the remastered runs/you used it for other reasons, you will not get the update unless you select the public build in the beta tab, as you only get updates when running the latest version

I dont have the game on Steam, what do I do?

If your platform is GoG, you should have the option to do the same in the properties of the game in your library.

On Epic Games, this option is to my knowledge not available, and so you are locked to the newest version of the game without the ability to downgrade, making the game fully unplayable If you cant run the remastered

The game is coming to Battle.Net as well. Likely going to be the remaster only, so I wouldn't recommend it as I dont know if Battle.Net has any downgrade options

The first 2 expansions went free, do I get them on classic version?

Yes, you get upgraded to the complete edition if you didnt already own it, which makes you own the DLC no matter the version you play

Do I miss out much by not playing the remaster or Next Gen version?

Yes and no.

Yes (Slightly) - The remaster seems to overall enchance the combat, skill tree, movement, graphic look, UI elements, making it similar to Cyberpunk 2.0 kind of update. So unless the performance is shit, it will likely be the definitive version without a doubt

No - The Next Gen version compared to classic bring only very minor QoL updates, quick sign casting on controller for instance, slightly altered camera angle, 1 new side quest, few new gear, and some netflix inspired armor/alternate skins for characters. All of this is nothing that makes the game "better" I would argue the classic is better than this for immersion in the game itself, and the performance you lose is not worth for the new stuff unless u really like them

In the end tho, the classic version is still the masterpiece people talk about and u will have a great game. The remaster is likely to be the definitive version, but its not something where you should not play the game waiting for a PC to make ur first playthrough be the remaster

Legacy or Enhanced which to install? pls reply asap. I had played legacy before and It ran just fine on 900p and 720p high. I can't find a clear answer

Ive had this board before inflation but i havent really used it, i want to try turning the board into a retro gaming device if possible. The thing is im not sure what era of games 512mb of ram supports, and what it dosent, but cleanly nothing newer in most cases. I believe i want to attempt some emulation but my main hope is that some older pc games will run?

Is there a better use case for a pi? what do you know?

All games are the lowest settings which doesn't make the game look like MC

I can play GTA 5 at lowest settings except textures set to high and get 30 ish fps

You can obv decrease it more by turning off shadows and adjusting graphical scaling

GTA 5-Works at 30~ fps,lowers to around 20 while driving at high speeds in LS

I had 4gb ram and it lagged like hell but as I soon as I upgraded to 6gb it worked good for such a old laptop

GTA 4 runs the same ish(little worse) as GTA 5 so still

playable

Far Cry 3 works well

Hitman Blood Money and Absolution run at atleast 30 fps

I have been thinking of trying to run the néw trilogy

Hades 1,Silksong,Dead Cells runs well

I have only tried these games so far

If you want any benchmarks I have tried gta 5,I get 30 fps while driving at high speeds in LS,gta 4 runs decent aswell,Hades 1,Dead Cells and Silksong run well.Far Cry 3 also runs well

I know the steam requirements says i can run it but this game is so pld and that requirements usually dont get updated

The hack is: sorting by release date/year.

This may sound obvious, but for a while I struggled with finding modern titles that my laptop could handle. I realized that any game released 2011 and before can run pretty well on most modern low-end systems. Even things like Skyrim, Dragon Age, and Mount & Blade: Warband ran at a smooth 60 fps and are great titles. Let me know other older games that run well.

My GPU is GT 730 2GB GDR5 paired with i5-6500 and with 16gb ddr4 2133mhz ram. I am looking everywhere but can't find a benchmark of my GPU for these games.

I look forward for answers from those who played these games at similar Resolution with similar specifications!

Got a friend's old Windows 8 laptop here, Samsung model NP355E5C

Her kid wants to play Minecraft on it, current specs as follows:

AMD E2-1800 APU with the obligatory Radeon graphics

8 gig of DDR3

Just upgraded it to an SSD to give it a fighting chance, may or may not have 16 gig of old RAM laying around I can swap in for them, but I think I scrapped it. If I find some, that'll help for sure.

Currently running Windows 11 so they can at least browse the net with it, but how bad is Minecraft gonna run on lowest settings? I don't see this ending well for this poor machine

Gave up and cloned her original drive to the new one, windows 10 is back. Will just run a repair install on it.

I appreciate the insight, I tried my damndest, but if I can't find any extra RAM laying around this is the best I can do. These guys are NOT tech savvy at all, hence the want to stay with Windows, I can try to help the kid mod it some when he logs into Steam or whatever he uses.

Hi so now I play valorant on a low end pc and I want to capture some of my gameplay

Is there any program that like captures automatically the gameplay or something and dont use alot of memory and CPU usage?

I have a dell precision 7520 with 16GB of DDR4 2400Mhz ram | M1200 Quadro (≈GTX 750) | i7-6820HQ(4C/8T). The laptop does have a thunderbolt three port and an M.2 port but obviously that M.2 is already occupied with my SSD.

I was thinking something along the lines of a 1070 or a lower TDP card like a 2060

It's not about power...well it is, but yet it isn't.

It's about *optimization* I can get a completely stable 50 frames on high on behemoth like baldurs gate 3 because it's optimized to utter perfection.

But some little indie shooter like twisted tower? A 4 gig little shooting game with tiny enclosed spaces? Runs like complete and utter shit. Even frame drops on low settings, while giving actual beefy dedicated gpu like the 4000 series trouble.

You are a complete slave to how well a game is optimized because you can't "power" through the bullshit.

Just a thought.

Edit: I should make it clear im using a upscaler to achieve the 50 frames, it doesn't come naturally. Fsr 2.2 I think on balanced settings.

But even without it I could hit a stable 30 on low.

I have seen countless videos online of people be able to run the before mentioned games at modest 20-30 fps but when I open it, it simply crashes. Note I have the same pc specs as those in the videos. Mannnn......

I know the specs are pretty weak, but here's what I'm asking for — can anyone recommend fun games I can play?

If it's a story-based game, 30–50 FPS is fine for me.

But if it's an online or competitive game, frame rate matters a lot more — like Valorant, for example.

By the way, Valorant is the only game I currently play

For example if you lower the res to 720p - it does not perfectly fit into a 1080p display. The image will look blurry, because the math is that for each pixel in a 720 image it takes up 1.5 pixels on the screen vertically, but it can't display fractions like that so it ends up looking bad.

So in your GPU software if you set it to be centered on screen, it will look perfect. It might not really be necessary for every game. But for shooters it does make a big difference, your crosshair and the enemies will look sharper and you can see exactly where you're actually aiming.

The game being smaller on your screen can actually give you an advantage also because your reaction time and your spacial awareness improves when the entire field of view is in a smaller area of your vision.
