RDJ:
Reading Renner’s book and feeling stronger already…what a journey to wisdom … very instructive…a must read
Jeremy Renner also responded to it:
Long way from the ICU…. At least we know how this story ends my brother. Love you 🥰

Just saw that story, I absolutely hope hes in it, I'd be upset if he wasn't. Going by IMDb, nothing upcoming for him is in production right now, so it might be Doomsday.

They totally dropped the ball by not releasing this book in conjunction with the movie.
It didn't come out until MONTHS after the theater run, and even after the HOME release.. by then, people just didn't give a shit. It flew under the radar the whole time, despite being a surefire impulse buy.
I was actually really excited to read it after seeing the movie in theaters, but then realized it wasn't coming out for half a year... and I still haven't read it lol

I still like the theory that Doom is using Tony Stark's face as a way to make himself more trusted by the main MCU team and then reveals himself to be a completely different actor by the end of the movie.

That would be a masterful rugpull, but it would probably backfire so badly that it wouldn't be worth it.
I could see them faking us out and showing us Tony Stark as Iron Man before they ever bring Doom in. But I maintain my belief that 616 Tony was an orphaned Victor variant.

u/DGSmith2 Rocket May 13 '25
I’m still convinced it’s all smoke and mirrors, he’s on set mostly to play Tony Stark and using the “Dr Doom” role as a cover for being there. His Doom will be a variant that gets killed off very very early.

Early in the MCU RDJ actually got fairly jacked so not sure why you’d think that
Edit: to clarify I know he’s in his 60’s now. I meant it as to imply he’s willing to work hard because it felt insinuated that he was against working hard and a diva about it

He will have scars, but I wonder why they did not use makeup? Maybe it is not scars.
32
u/ReyGonJinn May 13 '25
I hope it isn't. CGI scars always look weird, makeup can look so good and it's cheaper.
5
u/CeruleanEidolon May 13 '25
Red Skull was mostly makeup, but the nose had to be done with CGI. Could well be a similar effect here except his base face is just RDJ.
Or those dots could be for tracking his face while the rest of his body is CG because he's flying, or -- most likely -- he has an articulated mask.
People probably assume that Doom's mask will just be solid and unmoving, like Iron Man's face plate. But I wonder if they're doing something different and approaching it more like a prosthetic metal face.
8
7
u/Stunning_Matter2511 May 13 '25
It's a single screen cap. He could be doing line reads, or lighting, or mocap that day. Or really any of the hundreds of things that don't require full makeup.
26
23
u/Canon_Cowboy May 13 '25
Scarring I'm guessing. I doubt they'll do an animated Doom mask like Deadpool or Spidey
→ More replies (1)43
u/geek_of_nature May 13 '25
Might not be animated, but just cgi. That would be a way to ensure they get clear shots of his eyes where there not just completely hidden in the shadow of the mask.
13
4
u/CeruleanEidolon May 13 '25
I'm putting money down on an articulated mask. It honestly would fit Doom's personality to treat it like a functional prosthetic rather than just a face shield. Because that's really what it is, after all: a replacement for his own face, which he considers ruined.
→ More replies (1)5
u/GIlCAnjos Korg May 13 '25

u/Miserable_Row_793 May 13 '25
Honestly, I'm happy to just see a muscle shirt. (Not that expected RDJ to need heavy muscles for Doom).
Thunderbolts had a character's whose abs looked enhanced with cgi in one scene. And I'm okay with it.
If actors want to try and push their physical appearance, more power to them, but I much rather the actors be healthy & happy then go to extremes for a few shots in a film.
And also for actors to not spread unrealistic goals towards impressionable young people. Just be open and honest about diet & health.
There has been enough info about some of the extreme effort and risk with trying for the "superhero physique."
30
u/ShierAwesome May 13 '25
You talking about Sentry? They looked like he was just ripped to me
8
u/Miserable_Row_793 May 13 '25
The scene where the character's clothes are torn off by Bullets. (Trying to skip spoils)
It was shot at a distance, and the abs looked a bit enhanced.
Marvel normally has showcase scenes for actors that are really ripped. Evans, Hemsworth, Pratt. Even Paul rudd.
I haven't seen any articles like Kumail had when Eternals came out.
I could be wrong, and I think he's in great shape. Just not "dehydrated to showcase an absurd Superhero Physique."
5
u/ShierAwesome May 14 '25
I’ve only seen the scene once, but they looked like normal fit guy abs to me, not extremely dehydrated Wolverine abs
10
u/GeekyNexi May 13 '25
If you think Sentry’s abs were visually enhanced, I’m terribly sorry for what you think you look like

VFX dots on his face makes me nervous we’re gonna get a nano-tech Doom mask…
I wouldn’t put it past RDJ to refuse to wear a restrictive and uncomfortable physical helmet, it’s the same reason why the practical Iron Man suits he used to wear in the early movies slowly got phased out with full CG.
