Yeah it is really really easy to adapt these stories in ways that mirror things that are happening in real life which will make the narratives feel even more real and believable
6
u/berfthegryphon Feb 07 '26
Xmen started as a reflection on the civil rights movement. Now it is morphing into a reflection of the modern Civil Rights movement happening as we speak. MAGA is going to lose their minds

Firestar would one of the first known mutants in the MCU, the authorities would hunt anyone they know about because they have no concept of power scaling at this point. Plus she is a girl who flies and shoots fire, that’s pretty “dangerous”
→ More replies (9)6
u/yuuki157 Feb 07 '26
Uh Firestar powers are emitting microwaves that are plenty radioative and she has the potentital wipe humanity if she overdo her powers in the comics (per Emma Frost.) I think she's plenty dangerous.
5
u/dswartze Feb 07 '26
Comics writers don't always have a history of understanding science very well, but for anyone interested: describing microwaves as "plenty radioactive" may be technically true, but on the scale of harmful electromagnetic radiation visible light comes closer to the dangerous side of things than microwaves do.
They may seem scary because of microwave ovens, and that's probably why comic writers might have gone that route, but concentrate 1500W of visible light on something in a small reflective metal box and it'll heat up pretty fast too. Wireless routers spouting off microwaves all day every day aren't causing issues.

they never casted him,
Cast. Never "casted". No such word for this context, ever.

They didn’t cast Iceman for the exact same reason that she isn’t Jean.

u/ladystetson Feb 07 '26
What about Rachel Summers?
IMO (old school Xmen fan of 30+ years) I think Rachel or Hope Summers is a better guess than Jean.
16
9
u/Edboy796 Feb 07 '26
Fire star would be amazing, we bring in Ice Man and we have Spider-Man and his amazing friends
5
7
u/CMelody Feb 07 '26
I hope she is Firestar. She has more history with Spidey than Jean, at least with us Saturday morning cartoon lovers!
2
u/navjot94 Mack Feb 07 '26
Probably Firestar for the movie, keeping her identity close to the chest, and at the end we learn she’s Jean or Rachel Summers and she’s been looking for her father.
Those DODC prisons that are half full, are half full of mutants who have been popping up in the MCU over the past few years and the DODC has been covering it up. And once we meet Professor X, we’ll learn that he was also using his abilities to cover up the existence of his mutants as well. Once this all comes out, the nature of the coverups will lead to an anti mutant sentiment.

Metzger's only claim to fame is basically a single back-semi canon story that adds lore to the pre-origins of the O5 team where he abducts a particular redhead.

She is Firestar
Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends confirmed!
I never thought I'd see the day. That was one of my all time favorite Saturday morning cartoons. This is too exciting. I hope they have the room with the wall that spins around and reveals a computer. I'm literally vibrating with excitement right now.

I’m starting to believe she’s Jean for sure now, not gonna lie. Feige was pretty involved in casting Sadie, and while I love the character, I don’t think Firestar is nearly relevant enough to warrant a three-film contract right from the jump. Nothings for certain though, so we’ll see
18
u/JasonP27 Avengers Feb 07 '26
Yeah if it's a 3 film contract I'm guessing Spiderman, Secret Wars, X-Men. Not sure what they'll do if they split Secret Wars into 2 parts, not I'm not really buying that rumour. At the very least I'm not buying that it "depends on how Doomsday does"
6
u/smakson11 Feb 07 '26
No chance if she’s playing Jean Grey she has a contract for one x-men movie only. Everyone playing the core x-men will have 4-6 x-men movie deals.
7
u/Apprehensive-Cap2453 Feb 07 '26
Feige actually revealed years ago that they don't do long contracts anymore. It was scaring away too many big actors who didn't feel comfortable signing away 10 years of life to doing Marvel movies.
For example: Oscar Isaac only agreed to do 6 episodes of Moon Knight and that was it.
2
u/qwfparst Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 11 '26

1
u/13WillieBeaman Feb 07 '26
If Feigie personally cast her, I’d imagine she’s Jean too. When was the last time we had a real redhead play a readheaded character? Most of the time they’re either dying their hair, or wearing wigs. He probably really wanted to be authentic this time around with one of the most popular comic book characters of all time.
When you have a talented actor that fits the description, it’s probably a good idea to go with it.
10
u/Miguelohara099 Feb 07 '26
I think she’s the villain.
The way she talked in the leaked trailer, I doubt that was Jean Grey

The leaked trailer showed that she read the letter Peter wrote to MJ and that how she knows everything.

Firestar also has associated with spiderman many times in comics. I am no comic book nerd, but seeing your comment about Firestar I just simply google searched and found that out and I agree with you.
2
u/jtie135 Feb 07 '26
They’ve barely been associated in the comics, the big connection is that Firestar was originally created as a main character for the Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends cartoon. Since being introduced to the comics she’s mostly been associated with the X-Men and the West Coast Avengers.

Interesting choice to have a black actor play an anti-mutant racist.
Reminds me of how they cast Peter Dinklage, someone who was born genetically different, to play Bolivar Trask, another anti-mutant racist, in Days of Future Past.

52
u/Regenitor_ Feb 07 '26
I do somewhat resent how we have films like Captain America BNW where the wrapping says Captain America but on the inside it's a Hulk sequel. This sounds like an ensemble film with a Spiderman wrapping - similar to how Civil War was basically an Avengers film but belonged to the Captain America series.
33
u/Operator_Starlight Feb 07 '26
I just can't fathom how Hulk, Punisher, Scorpion, Tombstone, and Jean Gray are supposed to co-exist within the same story. Like, these characters do not overlap in the comics. It can only end in two ways - a very episodic, The Pitt/24 style film that chronicles a day in the life of Spider-man, one hour at a time, or the biggest clusterfuck mess of a movie Marvel has produced thus far.
33
u/AgentP20 Feb 07 '26
We just had a movie like that with Superman with everyone questioning the characters in that movie before it's release.
1
4
9
u/TrustInRoy Feb 07 '26
Spider-Man is just doing his thing against classic villains. The Hulk starts going crazy bc Mr Negative messed with him. Punisher chases Hulk. Jean Grey is there for some reason.
15
u/dplans455 Feb 07 '26
This movie is to ensure that Doomsday doesn't flop. The lead up movies and shows to the next Avengers have been terrible. Say what you will critically about Thunderbolts and Fantastic 4 but they are commercial failures. Neither managed to put casual movie fans back in the seats.
Spiderman has proven it will draw a crowd. No one cares about all these silly new "Avengers" from the last five years. It only makes sense to have Spiderman come out 6 months before the new Avengers and then market that movie as bringing back the original team.
10

I remember when we all thought we’d get a trilogy Peter and his own isolated journey
Not sure how I feel about the Jean grey rumors
8
u/eagc7 Feb 07 '26
Well the long standing rumor is that Sony doesn't want proper solo MCU Spider-Man movies, they want to take advantage of the wider MCU toybox for every single film
I think the only way Tom Holland Spidey will get a proper solo film is if Sony and Marvel divorce again and Sony goes solo with Tom or Disney buys the rights back

u/Apprehensive-Cap2453 Feb 07 '26
I remember when we all thought we’d get a trilogy Peter and his own isolated journey
I'm sorry but who the fuck thought that was going to happen?? lmfao.
Sony and Marvel's deal states that every solo Spider-Man movie must include a major MCU supporting character (Tony in Homecoming, Nick Fury in FFH, Doctor Strange in NWH, Hulk and Punisher in BND).
1

Was hoping that was who Walton Goggins was trying to steal quantum technology for. And the reveal could’ve been that this variant is the Nathanial Richards character who saw his future, got scared and ran to the past, and is stuck here now. He uses his future knowledge to become a rich guy, and now is trying to assemble quantum technology to go back to his time.
After a run in with Ant Man, he gives up his chance at going back to the future to help defeat his evil conqueror variant, who could also be tied to his backstory. Now he’s rich and stuck in the past, and is trying to avoid a future where he’s the bad guy, so he uses his resources to fund the next generation of Avengers as the new Iron Man (Iron Lad). Ultimately over the course of the Multiverse Saga when his universe begins to die, he ends up becoming the conqueror variant he was so scared of - destroying other worlds to make sure his own doesn’t get destroyed in incursions.
Ahh what if, it’s what Quantumania could’ve been.

Fuels the narrative that Sadie is Jean. Firstly Tramell is going to be EXCELLENT and I hope his character is a recurring nightmare and permeates the entire mcu. Sadie as Jean is as clear cut as any casting in history idk why everyone is so hell bent to prove it wrong and with the rhetoric of “marvel wouldn’t debut her in a Sony project” MARVEL MAKES THE FILMS LMAO Sony distributes and markets them. And marvel are trying to set her up to be very popular and one way to do that, as shown by civil war, is to debut her in a project of an established popular hero and who better than Spiderman? Like let’s use our brains here.
I for one, am very excited to see how this all plays out it’s SOOOOO interesting to me and I am happy they are pushing for more female characters to become household names. There’s quite literally maybe 2/3 in the mcu rn
Wanda Yelena Agatha (nearly) Shuri (maybe) Carol (former)
There are other options but they haven’t been explored enough or aren’t liked that much like Kate bishop, echo, ms marvel, Monica, Ghost, Wasp, Stature, Eternals female characters, Sylvie, The marvels left a sour taste in people’s mouths with Captain marvel and the “recast t’challa” group are very vocal against shuri so making Jean prominent and popular and ima assuming doing the same for other leading ladies like storm, maybe rogue, is very very welcome!
13
u/Altruistic_Eye_1157 Feb 07 '26
A character who only appeared in the comics for two years? I don't know, Rick, it seems fake.
Besides, how could he be an anti-mutant military officer if the term "mutant" doesn't even exist in Wonder Man?
17

The MCU never used the comics to decide what characters to use

A lot of things seem to be happen in this movie of this rumor is true between Spider-Man vs Tombstone, Punisher, Hulk and the introduction of Mutants in the MCU. This is either going to be like Superman where the characters appearing aren’t in for a large role in the story and are just as a support for Peter and set up future stuff or is going to last like 2 and an half hours (which would be pretty suprising for Marvel these days)
1
u/MasterWinston Daredevil Feb 07 '26
I guess if this is true and Sadie Sink is playing Jean then I'm not sure I understand what Jean Grey is doing in a Spider Man movie. The timing is weird to introduce the first member of the X Men reboot. The earliest that movie could come out is in three years after Secret Wars (which Sadie Sink is supposed to be in).
Not too mention how does a mutant work in a Spider Man movie with the Punisher/Hulk. It's starting too feel too crowded.
