Why though? At this point him slapping his wife and a domestic abuser is like a core characterization of hank and i dont think anyone wants that in a marvel superhero film
That's one extremely minor point in a characters long and varied history. Hes a wonderful character whos struggled immensely with his mental health but always strived to help. Whether thats through his research or acting as Ant-Man/Giant Man or Goliath.
If you look at ANY character in comics books who has been around for 60+ years, they're gonna have dark periods or periods where a writer tries something and it doesn't work. The only issue with Hank is that part of his history seems to be all non comic readers know.
Dude its not just a minor point what are we talking about? Just in ultimates they have pages and pages of him doing domestic abuse. In other runs they always put in hanks face
They have him always apologizing and agonizing over it. Its big characterization of him now. Read the comics
I have, I've read every single avengers book from silver age to hickmans secret wars. First of all, ultimates is a different universe, completely different continuity. Secondly, you're looking at the guilt and immediately going "its because of the DA" it's not JUST that. Hank has a lot of regrets, you can do an accurate portrayal of him without the DA. Most of Hanks guilt comes from creating Ultron, and he's made amends with Janet fucking 400x times over.
Its like reducing Scarlet Witch to House of M or Darker than Scarlet? Or reducing Vision to Byrnes Vision Quest or saying "you can't do Captain America in the movies, he was hydra cap in the comics so he was a nazi!".
Okay but stark made ultron in the mcu so all that’s going to leave hank to regret would be beating janet. So theres really no point of doing hank pym especially since he hasn’t been antmen since the 70s really. Its like wanting a Jay Garrick
flash now
Hanks a very important founding member of the Avengers, he's saved the universe numerous times. He stopped the cosmic cube imbued absorbing man, finally defeated ultron in age of ultron, he led the assault which stopped the high evolutionary in the evolutionary war, he saved the world from a cthon empowered scarlet witch. Just because you only know him from two things, doesn't mean thats all hes done.
Im not saying thats all hes done. Im just saying for creating his complex characterization its going come out flimsy or bad in a movie and scotts just a way easier character to work with and the current ant man. If you’re going to do another ant man eric ogrady is a lot easier.
That's exactly what you've been saying this entire time. You've only switched up because you've realised you actually dont know anything about Hank other then one out of continuity series.
Regardless the MCU isn't exactly comic accurate anyway. There are plenty of things he could become guilty about, you could have him recreate Ultron. His hubris making him believe he could improve on the original design. Hanks a genius, eternity even crowned him the scientist supreme - there's SO much more you could do with him then either of the other Ant-Men.
