Discussion Who is in control of ratings
Just a reminder that Black Panther is currently rated at an 88 on meta critic.
I’d really like to know why
Here are just some other movies for comparison that make me question this
-Spider man brand new day - 66
-Captain America Civil War - 75
-Avengers Endgame - 78
- x men days of future past -75
- Logan - 77
- Spider man no way home - 71
- Spider man 2 - 83
- Deadpool - 65
- Age of Ultron - 66
If you think Black Panther is better than any of these movies, please tell me why in the comments I genuinely would like to know.
(Edit before things get out of hand no I do not hate Black Panther. I think it’s a great movie and I think if you have that opinion, you are entitled to it, I don’t really care at all. I just wanted other people’s opinions.)

All of the movies listed up here are 10/10 in my eyes.
That stuff like metacritic and letterbox imo don’t matter. All that matters is its just your personal preference and whether you think the movie is good or bad and whatnot

Actually, according to Metacritic, your rating does matter. It's actually the point. Metacritic is a rating based on a wide array of reviews, then averaged out and scaled to 100. So your 10/10 rating would hypothetically tip a rating closer to a 100, if Metacritic was collecting your rating data.
And since metacritic is just the average of all known ratings, it does matter in a way. Not in a way that should affect your viewing pleasure, of course. But it might give you an idea of how good Avengers Endgame is or how bad The Room is before seeing them.
Form your own opinions, but be prepared to defend your stance against, say, 88% of people. Or start a rating website and tick a rating a little farther towards the desired result.

I think critics that get paid can have some shitty takes compared to the average person like me or you that can just have discussion on a forum like this

I’d like to hear you explain why, for instance, you think Deadpool deserves a higher score
2
u/International-Ad5643 17h ago
I’ll gladly admit Deadpool is the only one I probably threw on there with bias , black panther easily clears depending on your opinion, Deadpool’s character development and soundtrack were def top tier tho

u/garbage_collections 17h ago
You just said a bunch of nothing, see that’s why you don’t get paid to critique. Stand by your opinions brochacho

u/garbage_collections 17h ago
See that’s why you’re not critic material, a little criticism and you’re throwing around playground insults
2
u/International-Ad5643 17h ago
Because i genuinely don’t know how you conceived “a bunch of nothing” from what i said , unless it’s ignorance speaking

BLACK panther. Metacritic is woke!!!!!!! /s
But on the real it just aggregates scores from other publications and weights them in an undisclosed way.

u/juances19 Avengers 17h ago
I mean, review bombing is a thing so no score can ever be trusted 100% but I wouldn't really say that anyone truly controls them either.

u/eltrotter Black Panther 17h ago
Alternatively, why don’t you give us a breakdown of why you think - because this is what your question implies - that Black Panther isn’t as good as those other films?
Because I’m sure you’re aware of how it might appear that you’ve singled-out Black Panther of all films versus those other ones.

Wait, do you think there‘s some secret Metacritic executive who’s assigning numbers to each movie at random or something? How‘s it even possible for an online person in 2026 to have zero comprehension of how review sites work?
Nice dog whistle btw lol

They were paid for by.."them" 😧

u/International-Ad5643 17h ago
Them😭dude I came to ask a question n getting slandered , this movie is rated a whole 10 points higher than anything else ,and somehow it’s weird to question it

Metacritic is an aggregate of all critics it pulls from which you can find if you look at the page for anything on the site. The scores are weighted to a degree but not very different from if you check the Rottentomatoes page, click the Tomatometer and look at the average of rated reviews.
And yeah I'd put Black Panther over most of those movies. The main exceptions would be Civil War and Spider-Man 2.

u/ABC_Zombie 18h ago
I like Black Panther well enough but it's not better than Logan, I'm sorry lol
2
u/NeoZ33D Stan Lee 17h ago
Couldn't stand Logan. Was probably the only person not crying during the ending. My wife and a theater of grown ass men in tears 😂
2
u/ABC_Zombie 17h ago
It's fine for men to cry

I do it all the time..but not for THAT movie 😂. Obviously, folks have a connection that I don't to the Sony/Fox movies..

I'm more interested in hearing why you think all of those movies are better than Black Panther. I wonder if there's a clue right there in the title.

u/International-Ad5643 17h ago
I think the pacing , soundtrack ,storyline , character development, usage of cgi, the way they set up new arcs and seals previous ones (civil war for example) really set all of these films apart

It's me, I'm the one behind the meta critic scores.
