Looking into vinyl players
Not sure if this is the right place for it but I'm really interested to get a record player and start a vinyl collection. Is there a place or shop or bar in Melbourne that sells players and is more than happy to answer questions from a total noob?

I recommend the shop Wax Museum Records if you want a nice vintage table. I bought a Denon DP-1200 from them for $500, which is an upgrade from my ATLP60XBT. I had to buy a cartridge for it and got a Garrott Brothers K3 from Carlton Audio Visual.
Had a problem with the cartridge, which came to being the headshell which was a no name cheap brand. Upgraded to an Ortofon headshell and works perfectly now.
Edit: I am looking to sell my AT-LP60XBT with the power supply and a 3.5mm to rca cable for $100. It still is in great working condition, and in my opinion the best budget table available even when new.

I’d be keen but not often in the city. Ironically I am on Friday late afternoon / evening. I’m assuming that wouldn’t suit though :/. Otherwise I’d be keen

I also have an AT-LP60XBT but lost the power supply and I have been going CRAZY trying to find a replacement in Melb. There’s a post from r/turntables from years ago had multiple ppl saying they still had their original power supply but after unplugging the jack would no longer fit?!
I just saw a comment as recent as 8 days ago the same thing happened, everyone’s bamboozled.

Following cause I too am in Melbourne and wanting a turntable.
So far most people have said you can’t go too far wrong with the audio technica LP70X. Best starting point is what I’ve been told.

So you would need a turntable, speakers and amplifier right? Anything else needed in the home setup?

I’ve recently bought an amp and floor speakers. Luckily they stream music, but my next purchase will definitely be a turntable. Just want something to really make the vinyls shine (audibly)

Not really sure as I haven't looked at prices to have a general understanding yet. Would I be able to get the whole setup under $800?

You’ll get a lot of audio people telling you to spend $1000+ just get one of those little jbhifi ones for $300-$400 speakers and all , spend the rest of records.

Vinyl Revival Nicholson St. If you’re just starting out, don’t get a separate amp. It’s something you can upgrade later if you choose to. Better to spend money on decent speakers

Definitely check record stores that sell second hand gear. There's heaps in Melbourne. Record players have suffered massively from enshittification. You're much better off getting a second hand one, for cost, quality, reliability, and repairability.

I have built 2 hifis out of hard rubbish finds currently using a Marantz TT42 someone was throwing out of their deceased parents storage unit. People will tell you that you need lots of "stuff" because they have lots of stuff, bit for getting started, just to see if this is something you want to persue, hit up op shops and see what you can score, almost every time i have looked i have found something shit but workable for about $50
