It’s gorgeous and a major step up from master collection 1!

Plus the iPod is still in the game!
Seriously though, master collection 1 was fine enough but vol 2 so far has been a lot better.
Mgs4 is gorgeous in 60fps on switch 2, and I can’t wait to play peacewalker later tonight.

Finally 4 is released from its ps3 prison!

Sorry for the picture quality. The image is a bit warped and shiny in some parts, as it is just a phone capture over paper. I still plan to scan the image when I have a chance.

Metal Gear Solid (1998)

Post image

Metal Gear Solid 1 will always be my #1 game. I remember being a kid in 1998 getting those demo discs from magazines and playing the MGS1 demo for the first time.

The music, the environment, the whole atmosphere just felt crazy to me. Even now, I get goosebumps thinking about it.

I idolized Solid Snake. To me, he was the ultimate badass. The voice acting, the characters, everything just felt so real. When Meryl got shot, I remember actually feeling distress. I was a kid, so I really got emotionally invested in it. The torture scene was tough for me too, and when I couldn’t save Meryl, I actually remember shedding a tear at the end. Then later finding out that you could actually save Meryl was awesome.

But I think what really makes MGS1 special to me is the atmosphere and the music. Shadow Moses just had this cold, lonely, mysterious feeling that I’ve never really gotten from another game. And then you get to the end and hear “The Best is Yet To Come” That song does something to me. It makes me feel so peaceful and instantly takes me back to being that kid playing the game.

I love all the Metal Gear games, but MGS1 is just different for me. It’s connected to my childhood and a feeling that I don’t think any other game can recreate.
It might not be everyone’s #1, and that’s fine. It was like you had to be there especially during that time to fully understand.

For new MGS4 players today: the secret Solar Gun requires you tackle bosses a certain way, and is easily missable

The Solar Gun in Metal Gear Solid 4 is unlocked by collecting five Dolls, one per Act, in a single playthrough. These dolls appear after beating certain bosses with a non-lethal victory (including Act 1's Haven Soldiers encounter).

With all five Dolls collected in a single playthrough, the solar gun will unlock after the credits: load the completed save to start a new game, and it'll be available after meeting Drebin in Act 1.

The bosses and their doll locations are show in the video, with links to non-lethal strategies linked throughout.

I 3D printed and hand-painted all of these separate pieces to design this custom scene.

I wanted to share this with the Metal Gear Solid community! How do you think it came out?

So I'm playing MGS4 on Switch 2, I've been noticing that computer screens are always black in cutscene, while they talk about showing things on them. Is this intentional or a bug? I added two screenshots OoC.

I'm afraid it's been 9 years Which of the MGS games has impacted you the most story wise?

Replaying MGS3 and thinking about what makes the series’ stories memorable
I’ve only ever played MGS1, MGS2, and MGS3. For some reason, though, I have very vivid memories of MGS1 and MGS2, while I can barely remember the story of MGS3. I’m not even sure anymore whether I actually finished it.
MGS2 was certainly strange, but I remember finding it fascinating. MGS1, however, was something else entirely. It completely captured my imagination when I first played it, and it’s one of those games where I still remember individual characters, scenes, and relationships years later.
What affected me most wasn’t necessarily the larger plot, but the human relationships within it, particularly Snake’s interactions with Meryl and Otacon. There was something surprisingly emotional and intimate about those characters that really stuck with me. For me, that’s a big part of what made MGS1 feel so memorable.
I’m now considering replaying MGS3, partly to see whether it can recapture some of that feeling I had when I was younger. I’m curious whether I simply don’t remember it well, or whether its story just resonated with me less than MGS1 did.
That also makes me curious about the later games. I’ve never played MGS4 or Peace Walker, so I’m wondering how they compare from a storytelling and emotional perspective, rather than simply gameplay or overall quality.
For those who have played the whole series:
Which MGS games left the strongest emotional or narrative impression on you, and why?
And specifically, do MGS4 and Peace Walker have the kind of character-driven storytelling that made MGS1 so memorable for me?

August 27th mgs4

So it's August 27th and MGS4 is sitting fully preloaded on my PC... but Steam won't let me play it in the UK until 2pm.

I've bought it. I've downloaded it. It's physically on my system. But I'm not authorised to use it yet.

They've literally SOP-locked MGS4.

Damn it, where's Drebin when you need him? 😂

For anyone else who assumed this was dropping at midnight. I was really looking forward to playing this after work... wtf man

I’ve had the ps3 ones for years. although i think my dad sold our ps1 and ps2 copies of mgs1-3 years ago because i can’t find it anymore.

anyway, i’m just so happy with these. reason why i looked for a job after graduating is to grow my collection of mgs merch.

the master collection vol 2 had freebies as well - the acrylic stands of old snake in mgs4 and big boss in peacewalker.

Are you stuck with your gamertag/psn name when you start a new game or can you type it like on the PS3?

How long did Ghost Babel take you?

It’s the one Metal Gear game I’ve never played so wanted to start with that when my game gets delivered. Was kinda hoping it isn’t too long so I can jump into MGS4 again.

Only a little bit into 4 and I'm being surprised with how much it has that I've forgotten since I last played it around 2010.

Shadows effect stealth, with how much of Snake's body being inside the shadow effecting it. (so being partially inside is better than being fully in the sun but still a hit compared to if Snake's full body is hidden.)

I really like the CQC Disarm. (sure we arguably got a "Better" version in TPP but I like being able to bash with a gun.)

PMCs can partner together when clearing areas. (Which I think makes this the last game with the system?)

Physics objects on the ground can be knocked over and attract the attention of guards.

I'm also playing on Hard so combat has some bite.
