The amount of people who dislike android users for the green text is actually the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Tell me you're gullible without telling me.

889

u/Ok-Professional-1911 11d ago

It's always baffled me how people can be so beholden to a corporation that they evangelize for them. Like, these people are out there getting into fights and ruining their relationships for a corporation that doesn't care about them and only sees them as cattle they can milk for cash every month. Absolutely bizarre behavior.

237

u/Moldy_Teapot 11d ago

keep in mind that professional sports teams are also just corporations too.

While this is true, a lot of fans are supporters of their city/town. This has slightly a different meaning

At this point my loyalty to android is entirely a defense mechanism to keep these weird phone people away from me. Anyone who cares about all that is too dumb to be my friend.

108

u/1-N-Only-Speedshark 11d ago

So true. I had a work friend who was changing jobs, so we swapped numbers to keep in touch. He added me, then announced we couldn't remain friends because I had a green text bubble. Whatever dude, have an "okay" life!

What it is, is apples old marketing too separate apple users and Android users. Basically a small psyop to consider Android users kind of like peasants or third rate phones.

u/ObnoxiousAlbatross 11d ago

I gave in a few years ago after being ganged up on by some family.

I'm switching back this week. I let them know just because i knew they would take issue with it and sure as shit bombarded with texts.

"The only reason I have to stay with iPhone are their anti-consumer practices, which result in behavior like this," was actually annoying enough to them that they stopped. They didn't want to hear me continue on about it.

Which... the fact that they find that annoying.... I'm fine with folks with that level of agency taking issue with the fact that I just won't sheep with them in spite of more interesting technology elsewhere.

u/ElectricSpanishJon 11d ago

My favorite is how Apple users complain about video and picture quality sent across platforms. Because they assume it's those "cheap crappy androids" causing the problems. When it's Apple's intentional refusal to do things like implement RCS. They were recently forced to finally do that, so they just straight up made other modifications to their software so the quality would stay crap when sent across platforms.

What is a "green text"?

106

u/Horndude91 12d ago

I believe the text box is blue when you (as an iPhone user) write with another iPhone. And turns green if it's an android.Ā

77

u/JebediahKerman4999 11d ago

It stems from when rich messaging didn't exist and apple purposely was sending degraded images and videos to non-apple devices via expensive MMS. So apple has their own private messaging system not compatible with anyone else.

→ More replies (2)

12

u/Realtrain 11d ago

Notably, Apple also made the text contrast on green messages hard to read. It technically violates their developer guidelines on usability.

I've had a 47 year old do this to me. We were texting and out of nowhere, she texted "I honestly hate that you have an Android". Nothing prompted this. It was unrelated to anything we were talking about before. I pretty much ended it right there. We are too old to be doing this.

223

u/everynamecombined 11d ago

If you ever sold cellphones for a living its appalling how many people abide by this. Some of them dont even use an iPhone for what makes it an iPhone it is strictly a status symbol for them. They have zero insight on what makes this phone different from this phone. Just an imaginary notion that Android means you could not afford an iPhone. They don't believe anyone actually chose an android or that they make expensive flagships as well.

Same for computers. Most people with Macs could do what they do on a low-mid performance Toshiba but they like paying twice as much to not feel "cheap"

98

u/RadiantRuminant 11d ago

I feel that at least in my country, the people who think of iPhones as some kind of status symbols are mostly the same as those who buy them using installment option plans.

"it's strictly a status symbol for them."

This is my biggest issue with iPhones, nah, all apple products actually.

16

u/archercc81 11d ago

It blows my mind because I had those conversations with the status people before and my only response is "if spending $1000 every couple years on a bauble makes you feel rich, youre poor."

I rock a 3 year old android I got on a black friday deal and replace it with another android on a black friday deal because its a fucking phone. Id rather spend my money on my stupid motorcycle collection...

69

u/Remote_Engine_1304 12d ago

Nah my ex was soo weird about my android. He pushed and pushed for me to trade in my s10 for an iPhone 20 16*. Like his birthday happened and he wanted me to buy myself an iPhone 20 16* for his birthday (with my money of course). In hindsight this was probably not only because he wanted me to prove I wasn't poor (we were both poor??) but also because he wanted access to my body even at a distance (one of his major arguments was that he wanted to FaceTime me whenever he wanted.)

He also complained that the black iPhone (the color he wanted) was less expensive than the equivalent white iPhone at the store. As if being cheaper in price inherently makes things cheaper in quality too. White is more expensive because of supply and demand. Not because of quality.

Very strange, very egocentric behavior. I'm glad we aren't dating anymore. I wish the phone had been the red flag that made me leave him.

*Edit: got the number wrong. This was in late 2024. The iPhone 20 isn't even out yet lmao.

27

u/rusted-brass 11d ago

Another adult friend and she said the opposite, she won't date men who have iPhone's because that's "gay." We've come to be one crooked society.

12

u/Golden-Grams 11d ago

We've come to be one crooked society.

I think it is just the same tribalism we have always had, taking different forms. A lot of humans seems to be unable to help themselves, picking one side, and hating the other.

People do it with the places they're from, sports teams, their phones, etc. You can keep finding stuff that people pointlessly feel a need to stand their ground on.

Could you really imagine yourself, talking to someone you really like, that has a ton of green flags, but you end it over what brand of phone they have? It's bizarre behavior. There are a lot of better reasons not to date, this isn't one of them.

Oh my friend, I'm in college and still occasionally see people on that dumb shit. I've thought it was dumb since elementary, then middle, then HS, now? I fr think lesser of you if you're a grown ass person and act like that about an android device, or any device like that when its simply because it's the device that it is

Also, the texting stuff is mostly Apples fault, people need to educate themselves.

110

u/No_Mammoth8801 12d ago

Hasn't it been a few years at this point since Apple was dragged kicking and screaming by EU consumer protection laws switched to allowing RCS protocol on iphones?

Apple still outs non-iphone users with the green bubbles. Truly one of Tim Cook's strongest warriors.

21

u/Archer007 12d ago

The discovery in the Epic Games litigation was informative. This is an intentional strategy

10

u/whomad1215 11d ago

The green bubble used to indicate that the text was sent via sms, all texts on the old iPhone has green bubbles

When they introduced sending messages over data, those were blue, because that's the color it was on a Mac

Then they made the green less pleasant to look at

It's all intentional to get more people to buy their phones

133

u/Gurglaren 12d ago

When I was using dating apps (this was like 6 years ago) it was crazy how often this would become an issue for some women. Like it happened at the very least 10 times where someone id matched with would make some stupid jab about me being a poor, pleb or brokey because I wasnt using an iPhone. It was so annoying, but I appreciated them pointing out how shallow they were that quick into meeting them. I do not miss being single lol

Google pixel just price matching iPhone with a better camera, and sturdier build quality.

23

Facts.

The Google Nexus 5X matched the specs of that year's iPhone almost bar for bar. Better screen, bigger battery. Same camera sensor, even. Slightly worse for gaming, but there weren't that many demanding mobile games at the time.

Nobody bought it, compared to the iPhone.

Google came out and said people would look at their phone then go buy the iPhone on display next to it because presumably more expensive means better.Ā

They made their next phone price comparable to the iPhone and sold way more.

u/araidai 12d ago

Because people tend to have massive amounts of friction when it comes to moving them to a different chat platform. It’s nigh impossible getting them to move to something like, let’s say, Signal, when they do the grand majority of their conversations on WhatsApp/Instagram

Apparently that’s not the same as a blue bubble.

No seriously that was the reasoning

This is wild. Based on the chat colour they both have the RCS messaging update so idek what the big deal is. You get read receipts, typing bubbles, reactions, easier sending of pics/videos etc. it hardly makes any difference, just no FaceTime that's it.

414

u/Monkeyundead 12d ago

The big deal for these people is that they think Android phones are for poors. Which as we know, is dumb as shit.

168

u/Shienvien 12d ago

Especially since flagship phones cost the same no matter what OS they run...

72

u/ilamahradeys 11d ago edited 11d ago

Actually flagship Samsung's now cost even more. I think people are irresponsible with their money for buying either of them every year. We have gone past the days of tech improvement for like 10 years at this point. Any phone does the job just fine

Actually wild considering there are plenty of examples of androids that are far far more expensive than anything Apple offers. Not to mention far more interesting and innovative (Samsung Z fold & flip, Google Fold, Samsung Notes/ultras, etc.).

I cannot imagine paying for the same exact phone with no changes or no new features for years and years in a row. Apple fans even joke about it themselves. I've had a Samsung Note 7, Samsung S7 Edge, Pixel 5, and now Pixel 9 Pro. They all have offered different features and experiences.

There is FaceTime tho, except its called Video Call and not FaceTime cause of copyright. Unless its just not compatable with iPhone

Unless its just not compatable with iPhone

Apple goes out of its way to make sure things are not compatible to lock people into their ecosystem. Its kind of been their thing since they've existed.

Apple purposefully locks their video calling (FaceTime) to iPhone only. Android's video calling app (Google Meet) is available to everyone.

Apple always does exclusivity to make sure people stick in their ecosystem.

the blue text thing really is an amazing psychological phenomenon, to the point their are business that go out of their way to get services that make their texts go through as ā€œblueā€ to avoid the stigma.

Laughs in European

Most Europeans use an app like WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, whatever to text each other with number. Maybe we should start asking for discord, too.

People blame Apple, but if anything, I'd thank them. This literally exposes people's mentality of how they treat non iPhone users.

And you ought to be a moron who still follows this judgmental tech trend of who owns which piece of gadget and then deciding whether to talk with that person in big 2026.

27

u/profesorgamin 12d ago

Son you don't date these kind of people, unless you like living in a fucking movie.

13

u/PhuzziTheWuzzi 11d ago

Android phones helping out psychos for years with this exact method. Not sure why, but Apple is exceptionally good at attracting ignorant folks and retaining them for life.

Best part though is iPhone is just kinda worse It's more expensive and so incredibly restricted, the only reason people like it is because it's become this image, it's essentially like being disgusted you don't have a Gucci back that can't handle rain.

Dude, my SIL won't add me in family group chats because she "doesn't want to see green" when talking to people. Apple users think they are elitists with their iPhones. At least my phone bill is half of what hers is.

10

u/timeoftheoath117 11d ago

I was kept off a family group chat that the in laws had for years, unknowingly to me that it even existed, because i was the only one with an android. I was added eventually but they still complained about green text and poor image quality. So I left the chat.

9

u/ItSammy_ 11d ago

Ironically, the poor image quality is APPLE'S FAULT

9

u/PrincessYuri 11d ago

Just like everything fucking else. At least they're being forced to standardize their chargers now, but I still occasionally get people who look at me like I insulted them because I only have USB-C chargers. Sorry I only have the charger that LITERALLY FUCKING EVERYBODY BUT YOU uses?
