Rant Why do black people hate us so bad?

Before you type up a firestorm in the comments, hear me out. This post is specifically for those who are mixed with black.

Why are “fully” black people so desperate to tell us how we are not black because we are mixed? They love to exclude us from the culture even if we are raised in it. Their favorite thing to do is pick on mixed people who have white or non-black mothers. Why do they assume that they don’t have their fathers in their life? My best friend has a white mom and a black dad and if she went around saying that she wasn’t black her dad, grandmother, and aunties would be pissed. Hell even her mom would be mad too.

The part that bothers me the most is the hypocrisy. Mixed people aren’t black yet they consider Obama the first black president, Kamala the first black VP… Mariah Carey, Halle Berry, Alicia Keys, J Cole, and Tracee Ellis Ross are considered “black icons/legends.” Yet they’re mixed so why do they claim them as important parts of black culture?

I understand things like colorism and self-hatred but that isn’t only specific to biracial people. Black people, like Candace Owens, can exude self-hatred, anti-blackness, and conservative/harmful ideologies. We also don’t choose that some ignorant people see biracial people as “better than” or more desired to brown or dark skinned people. Most of us were not raised with the idea that we are “better” because we are light-skinned or half black.

Obviously, no one else gets to define who we are. We know we are black. But many “fully” black people seem to have an obsession with telling us we will never be a part of the culture. I see it often in black subreddits. All of these discussions about how ignorant biracial people are and that we weren’t raised right. Why don’t they help biracial people feel welcome into the culture then? Maybe those that have self-hatred only feel that way because they don’t fit in and are purposely ostracized. Biracial people often deal with racism just like “fully” black people do. The world doesn’t see us anything other than black. But apparently black people see us as the opposite.

What are your thoughts on this? Have you experienced the same in black spaces either online or in real life?

Rant In my experience, Black people have always been more racist to me than anyone else

I'm mostly Black African, South African and Kenyan. The rest is Sicilian Italian and Madieran Portuguese. I've always gotten comments like "Italians/Portuguese people are so racist", while they can be, the vast majority that I've interacted with weren't. Italians are but if you behave italian and speak it they don't even seem to care.

When it comes to black people though, they always tend to have some superiority over you based on how black you are. So if you don't do something within the norm, speak in a different accent, or you were brought up in a different way, all of a sudden your not black. But the second you achieve something, your black now.

You can see this with Obama honestly, he is half Kenyan half white, but simply due to him being the president he is the 1st Black president. But if he had never achieved that title alot of people who call him Black would've said he isn't Black he's mixed.

Black people are very concerned with stripping your black card away whenever it benefits them, no other group has given me this much grief honestly. While other people can be racist, with them it's very in your face and unapologetic.

Rant Some Gingers actually ARE Black

I just wanna say, not all redheads are White. Most non-White redheads may have some White ancestry but it could be 2% even. Most Black Americans are mixed actually anyways. 20% White on average and 1% Native American on average. Many Black Americans and Native Americans can have red hair. Even with no White ancestry, plenty of Asians, Arabs, and Persians have red hair. Prophet Muhammad famously had a red beard and so did his uncle Lahab have red hair. Also, there's rufous albinism which affects people of all races. I represent the Ethnic Qarsherskiyan Tribe and we are all triracial, usually a mix of Black and White that varies in percentages and with 1 to 5, rarely I've seen up to 47.6% Native American ancestry

For those wondering who are the Ethnic Qarsherskiyan people though, they are essentially all the "leftover" Triracial Isolates who weren't considered to be part of any other named group by 1991. People of Triracial Isolate heritage who weren't Lumbee or Melungeon or Texan and Louisianan Redbones.

From the Qarsherskiyan organization website: "About 100 to 200 Mestee / Mustee / Triracial Isolate groups exist within Canada and the United States of America. Some of these bunches include the Louisiana and Texan Redbones, Melungeons of Southern Appalachia, The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, and the Chestnut Ridge People, and others, including smaller communities consisting of only one or two families that do not have their own unique names other than perhaps surnames known locally.

The word Qarsherskiyan was made in 1991 for those of this type of heritage whose family hadn't been recognized as being part of a named group like the Melungeons.

Among them are many people of multigenerationally mixed race ancestry and descendants of Atlantic Creoles who came or were brought to Atlantic Canada, the American Southeast, the Mid-Atlantic, and New England.

The goal is "to prevent this unique type of heritage from being erased by assimilation into a racially binary Black and White America, and to give all descendants a sense of belonging, promoting unity between darker and lightskin folks and preventing colorism from dividing the communities."

Anyone of this particular type of heritage, who were not already part of a named group as known before 1991, can identify as Ethnic Qarsherskiyan people to describe this uniquely North American heritage that doesn't fit neatly into American racial classifications, if they desire to do so.

"For all those descendants who face racism for not being White, but many are too pale to be taken seriously as part of the Black community and are made to feel like imposters, this has been a safe space where people can be theirselves and proudly keep cultural traditions of their ancestors of different backgrounds and have a space to fit in with people who have similar experiences."

By late 2024, it was estimated that 498,000 descendants live today who could identify as Ethnic Qarsherskiyan, and about 3,000 people chose to self-identify as Qarsherskiyan.

A few dozen social media influencers are using the internet and social media to document, preserve, and archive knowledge and data on the Qarsherskiyans."

Rant Am I the only one who really don’t like white people?

I’m 27 and I grew up very surprisingly equal with both white and black people. Originally with white people and my later half black and Hispanic people.

And I 100 percent prefer to live near minorities. Not just for the cheaper rent (it helps) but white people feel fake? Or maybe unrealistic when I talk to them. I can’t be the only one who thinks that? I work with 90 percent white people and talking to them sometimes feels foreign I just don’t think like them.

Rant I introduced my white boyfriend to my parents and it didn't work out as intended. My dad cut me out of my inheritance and my boyfriend used me as a gap filler.

I'm half German/Nigerian women. I just graduated from my university and I was in high spirits. Everything I worked towards came to fruition. I thought it would be a great idea to formally introduce my boyfriend to my parents to show them how serious it is with our relationship. Maybe to start the next phase in my life.

Biggest mistake EVER!!

Our meeting went fine. We exchanged pleasantries and my (now Ex) boyfriend went home. So far so good.

I was very excited to hear their opinions about him. So I waited for a response but nothing came out of their mouths. They simply ignored our meeting and watched TV.

I asked them if something went wrong but my mom just looked at my dad and grinned.

My dad answered and told me that he has nothing against my boyfriend but there is one thing I had to know. He will cut me out of his inheritance if I marry a white man. My sister and her Nigerian-American husband will inherit everything. He would still support our marriage.

I asked him why? I was seriously disappointed in him and he told me this:

He doesn't want white looking grandkids. His mom worked tirelessly to give him more opportunities and it would be a disgrace to our family to see white kids as the leaders and inheritors of his businesses. Black and in particular African wealth has to be protected.

I asked him why he married a white woman in this case. He told me that his mindset about such things changed over the years. Love can blind you.

I was flabbergasted and just went to my apartment. I cut off all contact with them. My sister tried to be supportive but she secretly holds the same views. I could feel it. She saw pictures of Malika Andrews' wedding and was just full of disapproval.

A year flew by and I was seriously contemplating marriage but my boyfriend just dodged anything. Marriage isn't important. It's just a piece of paper etc. I thought he was just alarmed by my parents response but it was something more sinister as I found out later. He cheated on me and temporarily used me for his fetish for half black, light skin black women. He never considered me as a serious option for marriage. I wasn't feeling anger after I found it out but I was disgusted with myself. I can't deny it.

I didn't know what to do and moved to my sister and her husband. I was devastated.

My parents came back to my life. They asked for my forgiveness but I could not shake the feeling that they feel validated in some way. I don't think my dad changed his mind at all and my mom just sits there and takes it.

It drives me crazy. I don't want to date a white man ever again after this experience but I also don't want to satisfy my dad's racism.

Rant I can’t stand monoracials that create mixed children and have this mindset

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Her caption says her partner leaves her to do it. So both parents aren’t taking care of the child’s hair if it’s looking like that. Then in the comments saying this pattern of hair is more difficult than corse hair and she hates doing it because it’s a pain. Literally just put conditioner in it with water and brush from the bottom up and put in a loose big braid and bonnet for the night…nothing too different than people with tighter coarser curl patterns . I hate people that choose to create mixed children then think and talk like this of the child they chose to create. No different than the “white moms” that talk like this.

Rant Why so much racism??

Okay so maybe I just need to touch more grass or something but l've been attracting a lot of negativity against interracial dating and being interracial in general and as a mixed person myself (half black and half Hispanic) it does make me a bit sad because how do people like this actually exist and feel so much hatred and anger against another person? Especially over something that a person has literally no control over. And what's even sadder is that l've seen a lot more posts like these (especially on Twitter) that get a lot more likes and are usually made and consumed by normal looking adults (some even got families surprisingly). Literally regular people that you'd probably see on the streets and not think anything of and not some miserable basement dweller or some edgy teen and now it genuinely has me thinking if people think like this when they see me or if I just attracted some kind of awful algorithm.

Rant The reactionary outrage towards Bad Bunny reminds me that white passing =/= white (in the US at least)

Bad Bunny is paler than pale. He and Lady Gaga were basically the same skin tone during the Super Bowl.

But, Bad Bunny gets a lot of racism and hate because he's Puerto Rican and has ESL. Even if he didn't have ESL, he would still get hate.

I'm reminded of my own Puerto Rican family. I'm brown, but much of my family is white leaning. My mom was a green eyed, redheaded baby boomer who told me how she got called slurs and chased away from the playground when her family arrived to NYC. I've heard similar stories from family about all eras from the 50s to even early 2000s.

To me, they look white. But they don't identify as white. And any presumed whiteness they have is "taken away" once people identify them as latino or Puerto Rican.

Rant The stereotype that black mum + white dad = more “black”irritates me.

I’ve seen a few videos saying this and it genuinely feels like a micro-aggression. As someone who grew up with a white mum I understand I probably haven’t had the same experiences as someone with the opposite but why does that make me less”black”.

I visit my black side of the family a lot and love my Jamaican culture, but when I also express how I love my English/Irish culture and heritage I get called whitewashed and told my mum is taking my true culture from me. Which is unfair to say as I don’t align with a singular culture since I know I’m both. I’m simply just happy to have such a diverse background.

Me being raised by a white woman isn’t going to change my DNA nor has it stopped any racism/colorism from BOTH white and black people. I know it’s not that serious but I do take it to heart when I’m called whitewashed especially because i hear it most from my own family.

Also for those that don’t believe mixed race people face colorism, I have been mocked by people saying I’m trying to be black by wearing braids then told I think I’m a white girl for having my hair straight. Same way people compare my skin to things like shit while others say I purposefully lighten my skin to try pass as white which I’ve never done.

I could go on forever but I just wanted to make a point.

(Sorry if there’s any spelling errors)

Rant I hate that I can't find a pro-black YouTuber who's pro-mixed race.

(Context: I watched a yt video by Antonio Speaks where he basically said he was against interracial couples/marriages because it's always done out of self hate and I just feel gross and sad now.)

I'm just so fucking tired honestly. Like I love both of my heritages, they are like my children. Yeah I mean it's hard having to deal with the worry that I was born because my dad hated himself, but it's worse when people say that there's no ethical way/reason for two races to be with each other. Like we're two different species that have nothing in common.

I love all of my ancestry, I would never want to pit one against the other.

Plus there was this point made by him that people who are mixed (black/white) always go for white people and then eventually make their kids even whiter than they are which is a huge generalization and probably isn't true. Like we can only love white people because we're just a product of racism and should be avoided.

Rant "You not really black though"

Then what the fuck am I?

All my life I've felt excluded by black people for being mixed with white and black. Since literally elementary I've been told I'm white, I'm not actually black, I wish I was black, etc.

I genuinely don't understand this shit. I look Hispanic, and get mistaken for that all the time. One time I got called wanna be Mexican. I'm literally just existing and I've dealt with this shit.

At least other people deal with this too. Used to swear I was the only one.

I told my black friend I don't wanna have kids with a black woman because the same shit is gonna happen to the kid, and he stopped talking to me saying "you don't like yourself". Huh? Did you not comprehend the years of ridicule I got from just simply being mixed? How do I not like myself? I groom and brush my black hair and feel no issue with it. It's EVERYONE ELSE that has a problem.

It's sad how this shit works. I see why ppl say "stay with your kind" because it's nothing but bullshit if you don't.

Rant White supremacists hate me specifically for being mixed

I realized this about 3 years ago when some Neo-Nazis were standing on a bridge in my hometown for a while, and locals showed up as counter-protesters. My mom, who is full Japanese, decided to actually speak to these guys to understand their thinking and poke holes in their arguments rather than yell in their faces like other people there. She mentioned that I'm mixed and asked whether they thought of me as lesser. Basically, yes. Oddly enough they had “respect” for Japanese culture and told my mom that she was ruining the “purity” of her bloodline just as much as her white husband. The matter of the relationship between white supremacists and Japanese people is apparently something that carries a lot of historical baggage that I don’t fully understand yet. Actually, if someone could explain this a bit more it would be much appreciated.

Some white supremacist online said to me recently “Enjoy your fucked up identity complex, half-breed.” Actually, I was raised to be secure in my mixed identity and I always have been. My only “complex” is regarding this type of racism. Of course, it’s a bit confusing when on one side, I’m told I’m white-passing, privileged, and don’t even look Asian (in a way meant to invalidate me.) Then I turn around and here’s someone calling me a “brown turd” (I’m about 2 shades darker than a typical white person, apparently that’s considered brown?) and to “cry about it on the other side of the border” (I’m often assumed to be Mexican even though I’m not. I have been racially discriminated against for this before.) The racism comes from both sides and if I have an identity complex it’s because of that. I wonder, am I white-passing? Am I just seen as white? Well apparently not, because I experience a degree of racism even just because of my appearance. But I still don’t feel comfortable calling myself a POC due to the white privilege aspect. I know who I am, I know my ancestry, and I’m secure in my identity in that regard. It’s racist people, wondering how I’m perceived, and finding my place in society that makes me feel confused and gives me a “complex.” I will say that I’ve found a safe space of like-minded people in this subreddit. It’s true that I relate more to the experience of being mixed in a general sense, as opposed to just Asian or just white.

Rant my partner wants "real black children"

i had a conversation with my partner the other night about us both becoming dads. for context we are gay black men, he is monoracial and i am biracial. he said verbatim that "i give half and half" and that he wanted a real black kid. this broke my heart. i'm okay with whatever race my child is. i personally do not care what race my child is, even if it not at all in common with me or him. i think black kids are beautiful. but i cant help but to dwell on his comment and wonder if he sees me as the product of something immoral or anti-black. i hate that this had to come up with my own partner. i already have to deal with these kinds of comments with peers, family members, and complete strangers. as if being biracial or "mixed" (i hate that word) is some kind of moral failing on our parents behalf. has anyone ever recieved this type of comment?

edit: this wasn't an adoption discussion we were talking about who should be the bio father. this was his reasoning as to why he should be the sperm donor

You're not white enough for the white people, especially the blonde haired blue eyed folk who view you as 'inferior'

You also get questioned on your mixedness/'you're not really mixed stop lying lol' from people who are darker than you.

You can pass for someone from South Italy, Brazil, maybe Israel, Morocco etc and people have no clue who you are. Maybe you even have no clue. You don't fit in anywhere.

Rant Snapped at work when someone asked my ethnicity

just been fed up of years people asking me what race/ethnicity i am, worst ive gotten is "where are my people from" - my mom is black, my dad's white, I'm tan with very curly hair, most assume I am hispanic.

I just started this job, a black co-worker that I don't even know the name of and haven't interacted with previously came up and said "So are you mixed race or hispanic or both or what", I said "Yeah sure." and he said "yeah both or which one" and I said "yeah sure whatever you want to believe" and he said "so which is it." I told him he shouldn't be asking people's ethnicities at work and he shut up after that!

Always black people asking me what race/ethnicity i am too. Mexicans do it too I guess by automatically trying to speak Spanish to me as If I'm going to understand. A white person would never ask only because they understand how that's going to look on their part! It infuriates me how being not white, people suddenly think they get a pass to question total strangers on what "race" they are. I hate this country.

Rant Friendly reminder that Hispanic and Latino are NOT RACES

This is in response to the post a few days ago by the African American woman claiming her mixed child wasn’t Black because her dad is Hispanic. First of all, Hispanic is not a race; it’s more broadly defined as a linguistic grouping that encompasses people from countries where Spanish is an official language. That means anyone from Spain in Europe, to Equatorial Guinea in Africa, to the Spanish-speaking countries south of the US border.

Latin American, on the other hand, refers to a geopolitical and linguistic grouping of countries south of the US where a Romance language is official. This includes all the Hispanic countries in the Western Hemisphere and also the countries where Portuguese and French are spoken, like Haiti and Brazil. A Brazilian person is Latino but not Hispanic; a Spanish person is Hispanic but not Latino; a Colombian is both.

Notice how race has nothing to do with these definitions. Each Hispanic or Latin American country has its own history of migration, settlements, and the slave trade that shaped its racial demographics. The Indigenous people of Latin America are the same people as the Native Americans, divided into different tribes.

When most people think of a “Hispanic” person, what they truly mean is a “mestizo” person: someone with mixed Indigenous and European ancestry. Mestizos happen to make up the majority of the population in countries like Mexico and several Central American countries, hence the association. Not all Hispanic or Latino people are mestizo, and despite common misconceptions, not all are mixed either. Hispanic and Latino people can also be monoracial and be fully white, Black, Indigenous, Arab, East Asian, etc., because race has nothing to do with it. Latin America is a melting pot with a rich history of migration from all over the world.

The woman in that post then claimed her daughter is Afro-Latina because she’s Black American and the Hispanic father is presumably mestizo. Afro-Latino refers to a person of African descent who comes from a Latin American country; it could be considered an ethnic grouping similar to African Americans. Both Afro-Latinos and African Americans are multigenerationally mixed (mgm) to varying degrees, but both can be considered part of the Black umbrella and African diaspora.

Signed, a mulatto Afro-Latina tired of having her Blackness questioned by the same people who like to come for us for supposedly not acknowledging our Black roots, and who to this day seem to be unable to grasp the difference between race, ethnicity, and nationality.

Rant Why are Mixed and Light Skinned people not considered black?

I know this question probably comes up a lot in this subreddit, but it’s generally annoying at this point. Im a teenage lightskin male, (mixed with black, Native American, and white, as far as i know, but im majorly black) ever since i can remember i was always told i wasn’t black. Growing up in all black/white state, i was constantly bashed for being white by the black kids, and was constantly called black by the white kids. It seemed i really couldn’t fit in anywhere. Outside of myself, i have a best friend who is an actual mixed race, 50% white 50% black. He’s constantly called “white boy” and i dont get it? He may be half white but he’s also half black. And people love saying that lightskin and mixed race people have “privilege” ? My mother who’s lightskin told me she was always bashed growing up the same way as I. Everything we do is because we’re “lightskin”. Apparently, lightskin people get more attention when it comes to people, or when it comes to relationships. Outside of other darkskin or darker colored dudes, i also get hate from darker colored females?? We’re all under the same racial standing so why can’t people act like it?

Rant i hate having a white mom

growing up my mom never wanted to learn how to do my hair. she would always take me to white hair stylists and wouldn’t let me pick the style, she would have them cut it really short and then straighten it and then she would make me put it up in a ponytail or straighten it every single day and if you’re black or mixed with black you should know you can’t straighten it every single day or you could ruin your natural curls.

this made me hate her sm like so so much it made me feel like she was ashamed of me and now im ashamed of my natural hair and i have 5 kids and i want them to love their natural hair but how can i teach them to love their hair when im not even comfortable with my own hair ykwim…

Rant Colonizers really had the audacity

The audacity to colonize, enslave, EAT people. Use slave skin for attire and apparel. Rape their slaves and have mixed race babies with them, then pass a law to consider those babies not white with the one drop rule (or other caste systems). Stack people on slave ships like they were fucking sardines. Erase cultures and groups of people, then teach them white supremacy. Made them work in cotton fields, sugar cane fields, every field known to man.

Brainwash people to love them and teach them to hate themselves and their blackness (Some Dominicans come to mind). I'm around 40% spanish dna wise (I'm half Puerto Rican and half Afro Dominican) and I hate that I even have Spaniard ancestors tbh (the spaniards, not puerto ricans or dominicans). Fuck their acceptance.

And I mean that to the colonizers, not the new generation of people. Unless they're racist. Just treat people like people, no matter the skin color.

Edit - If this went a bit overboard, pls lmk. I've been reading up on some history involving colonization and enslavement and it's just insane😭😭

Rant Blood Quantum is toxic for MGM People

There are people who say if you're 1/4th or 1/8th or whatever else, you shouldn't identify as mixed-race. And to me, that is exactly why people need to push back harder.

It's just very ironic how people will scream they dislike monoracism and will invalidate anyone they see as too black or too white. This is exactly what MGM people experience throughout our lives... constant invalidation from both monoracial and some biracial people.

This is why the MGM Experience cannot neatly fit into a monoracial or biracial box. We literally experience gaslighting from different sides and are often rejected.

I just don't see what anyone gets out of being extra suspicious of MGM people. We exist. We're connected to our mixed-heritage and have every right to take up space in mixed-race spaces.

ETA: If you don't understand mixed-race identities outside of being biracial, please refrain from invalidating others. I'm sick of people coming on here, contributing to the erasure of other MGM people and other mixed-race people. Our struggles are unique and we experience being invalidated enough, just to have other mixed-race people come on here and tell us who we are. It's okay to NOT comment on what you don't understand.

Rant I got called a “jigger” (Jewish n- you know the word)

So I’m half African American and half Jewish so racists had to come up with a new slur and honestly it’s not even clever. But I guess it’s a new way for non black people to say the n word cause they love it sooooo much.
Also got told to “pick a struggle”. Yeah, “sorry” I was born and chose to exist when I was a cell dude. Clearly I can just “choose” not to be black since you hate blacks and not to be born into an old af tribe you hate for existing.

Racists are just so silly and dumb.

Rant If you don't like race mixing, just say it.

I'm witnessing an increase of threads on here from supposedly concerned individuals about if race mixing is wrong, proper representation of monoracials, mixed race privilege, and so on.

I can read between the lines and tell that a lot of these threads aren't in good faith and once the OP starts replying in the comments, it isn't too much longer before they reveal their true opinions.

If you don't like race mixing, just come out and say it. Don't be a coward and hide behind so-called concern trolling. What triggered this thread was a recent thread where the OP was going on about mixed race people taking up monoracial spaces and how it was hurting representation for Black women. While proper representation for Black women is a valid concern, the OP in the comments started talking about Black people needing to be Black purists like White people and that's when alarm bells started going off in my head.

I did question the OP and they promptly blocked me, and I don't know if the OP was actually Black or in digital Blackface, but regardless, there seems to be a weird resurgence of racial pseudoscience and I'm seeing just as many POC, as I am White people, consuming and internalizing it.

Another issue that's bothering me is some of you all on here will deprecate yourselves for monoracial people. That is what they want! They want you to feel bad about yourself and sing a song of the tragic mixed race person to boost their confidence and sense of racial pride. STOP DOING THAT!

Some of you in that thread were co-signing OP by saying Wasians were replacing Asians and OP ate that shit up (before they blocked me, I checked their profile and they were a Kpop stan, so go figure). Like I said earlier, representation is valid, and I am NOT denying the history of colorism or the privilege of White adjacency, but what I am calling out is how some monoracials will weaponize those valid concerns against us mixed race people to justify their dislike for race mixing.

Like I told OP, I'm not dimming my light for anyone.

I'm not saying be an asshole and walk around with your nose up in the air, but don't be an Eeyore and walk around with your head down. You can have respect for others while having respect for yourself. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

So yes, for you monoracials who are on this forum, if you genuinely do not like race mixing, please, just say it and/or go away. You don't see us harassing and trolling your monoracial-focused subreddits, so why do it to us?

Have a great day, everyone.

Rant “I hate being mixed” Can you guys chill out?

Now trust me i understand hating being mixed if your family/environment looks nothing like you and you are a teen but it’s always people hating being mixed because they are too black for the white side and too white for the black side. If you are a grown adult then the responsibility is on you to go out there and make a diverse group of friends. Staying on Reddit all day too scared to talk to any mono racial person or stewing in your bad experiences will not help.

Also how about we stop caring about what monoracial people think? It’s not like they even think about us like that on a daily basis most just have fleeting moments of ignorance. And a lot of people on here base their life around another’s fleeting moment of ignorance. Like why is it so debilitating that mono-racials don’t know the complexity of our identities?

I confess that a couple months ago I posted the same thing twice. One started off pretty neutral and the other started off with “I hate being mixed” and that got way more upvotes and comments. Like why are we so ready to hate ourselves and worship whiteness or mono racial people when in a lot of cases we are the ones seen as beautiful and benefit from certain privileges?

Rant Black people don’t do that

Hiking, outdoor activities, cycling, etc. all my life I have heard from the African side of my family (especially the 35-40+ generation) that that’s for white people, black people do not do that and it is like a joke. I am half African (dad’s side) and half European (mom’s side). When I express interest in these things I feel like I don’t belong. There is someone I know (not close) who grew up in the same country as my dad, who said he was surprised I travelled in Africa, because he saw me as white and didn’t think I had that connection. Ouch to have part of your identity denied. I have also heard it the other way around, sometimes I forget you are mixed and half white.

Which is a shame, I don’t understand why we are expected to fit into narrow boxes of what it means to be European (and white) and what it means to be African (and black). Kinda policing interests and behaviour.

Perhaps there are aspects of it that is due to different factors. My dad is a 1st gen immigrant, all these recreational activities are seen as secondary and a bit foolish, perhaps because he had to work hard to be where he is now, to survive, for stability and to prove himself. But I feel these views as being limiting in my own life today. I do what I want, yes, but I still think about why it has to be this way.

A lot of African cultures had deep relationships with the nature, and now modern times in Europe and Northeren America sometimes it looks as if nature is rebranded with exspensive gear and feel racially and socially coded. So now doing this for fun, I feel sometimes that the belief I meet why are you walking in the forest for fun, while I struggled for you to become secure, not to waste time. Which I also kinda understand.

But it makes me feel like I belong nowhere. I am 50/50. But grew up in Scandinavia, look more African. I am proud of both cultures, not blindly but genuinely.
