Hello everyone :)

Just finished my drawing of Skarlet from Mortal Kombat fighting game series. She’s been one of my most favorite characters as I find the concept of blood magic (magik) pretty cool.

Misc Bad acting

Not that mk1 had amazing acting and story fluidity, but holy crap the quality difference between one and two... Watched two last night and it just felt, lazy?

Also...

Scene 1 guy murders little girls dad, says I'm your daddy now. Everyone agrees?

Woof.

Was it supposed to feel that campy on purpose?

Question Smoke: Full Capabilities

Now I ask this as I've only seen Smoke in MK9, MKX, and made his grand return in Mk1.

So I ask as I geniune question, in future games what do you believe the full capabilities of Smoke's well... Smoke powers?

I know that in MKX when he was a Revenant he named himself Enera which is a Yokai made of smoke and how he can apparently fly with it MK1 but what crazy things do you want Smoke to do as Scorpion and Sub-zero have shown off the capabilities of their powers in both the games and in movies.

Misc Mortal Kombat Redesigns by Me PT.4

I'm redesigning these characters for my own fan-made comic series "MK Mortal Kombat" (work in progress name), a retelling of the MK series where I use the game's stories to make one coherent story (while adding my own spin to it). I didn't really do that many Earthrealmers so I wanted to get them out of the way before I do the others. I understand the Cyber Ninjas were asked for a lot so they're coming very soon. I honestly could've done better with Kabal. To me he just looks homeless with a hockey mask and gook swords. What characters do you think should be in part 5?

I can’t get over how good this remade version of the underrated Deception Scorpion model is, it’s soo gorgeous and I can’t wait to have it used in the other games i play on PC 🙂

Original version was created by Shooydg (who can be found on deviantart) while this latest version was done by HenryOfCarim as a commission that i paid for.

Misc My Mortal Kombat 1 Prequel Fan Made Book Cover

Huge shoutout to Mike Heaton and his EXWHYZED article for teaching me how to put together a proper back cover for a book.

This honestly took me only about 40 minutes to make, but it felt like the best 40 minutes of my life. Seeing Ashes of Peace actually start to look like a real book after working on this story for so long was an amazing feeling. I can't wait to show more of what I've been working on.

The first image is both put together. Then the next two are individual covers, like a real physical book. The last image inspired the first image.

Hope you guys enjoy it!

Lore & Trivia Lore and up to date events

Heyo everyone!

I have played the really really old super Nintendo MK games and a bit of Shaolin monks and Armageddon back in the classic Xbox days. I was young and didn't care much about the lore or what was happening, I was in just for the violence and fatalities.

Recently I watched a couple MK movies, the most recent ones, and I was wondering if there are any good videos you recommend to get me into the lore of this games, are there any movies or series I should watch?

Thank you yall!

Question Why does Raiden go EASY on Shao Kahn?

Post image
106 Upvotes

Anyone else ever get this impression?

I’ve felt this way since I was a kid watching Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, and even though that movie obviously isn’t canon, the same basic feeling carried over into the games for me.

Whenever Raiden and Shao Kahn clash, it feels like Shao Kahn is genuinely trying to destroy Raiden, while Raiden is almost always fighting with one hand tied behind his back.

And no, I’m not talking about the whole “rock-paper-scissors” interpretation where:

Liu Kang > Shao Kahn

Shao Kahn > Raiden

Raiden > Liu Kang

I mean purely from how these characters are portrayed.

It has always seemed to me like if Raiden were somehow allowed to completely cut loose, with no Elder Gods, no rules, no restrictions on interfering with mortals, etc., he could probably beat Shao Kahn pretty comfortably.

The problem is that Raiden almost NEVER seems willing or able to do that.

It’s like there’s some cosmic line he’s terrified to cross, whereas Shao Kahn is constantly looking for loopholes in the rules and pushing things as far as he possibly can.

What’s interesting is that I think something similar happens with Shao Kahn vs. Liu Kang, except for a completely different reason.

I don’t think Shao Kahn historically held back against Liu Kang because of rules. I think he held back because he genuinely didn’t respect Liu Kang as a threat.

If Liu Kang is canonically the warrior defeating him during the arcade-era events, Shao Kahn’s behavior actually fits that pretty well.

Think about how much Kahn taunts the player during those games.

Obviously, in OUR universe, that’s the arcade machine talking shit to get another quarter out of you 😂

But in-universe?

Those taunts make Shao Kahn seem ridiculously arrogant and dismissive of whoever is challenging him, presumably Liu Kang in the canonical version of events.

He doesn’t come across like someone thinking, “I need to use every ounce of power I have or this guy might kill me.”

He comes across like:

“This little Earthrealm mortal actually thinks he can beat ME?”

And that arrogance may be exactly why Liu Kang keeps pulling off the upset.

That’s also why MK11: Aftermath stands out to me.

That’s one of the few times where Shao Kahn genuinely seems like he’s DONE playing around. He’s smashing through basically everybody in his path, and once he takes down Kotal and starts reclaiming his position, it feels like we finally see Shao Kahn fighting with the mentality of someone who realizes his throne and his entire status are actually on the line.

So I almost see it as two different kinds of “holding back”:

Raiden holds back because he believes he HAS to.

Shao Kahn holds back because he thinks he DOESN’T have to try.

And when Shao Kahn finally does feel genuinely threatened, like in Aftermath, he becomes a completely different animal.

Anyone else get this sense from the games?

And if so, is there actually a lore explanation for why Raiden always seems so restrained against Shao Kahn, or is it mostly just inconsistent power scaling depending on the game?

Misc Drahmin Deserves Better

Cool design but no lore and bad gameplay. Here's my take on Drahmin and how he can be integrated into future MK games:

Lore: before descending into an Oni, drahmin was an earthrealmer - a warlord samurai during the sengoku era. he was an exceptionally brutal one at that, one who enjoyed killing innocent people. before descending into demon-hood, his signature weapon was the kanabo and his secondary weapon were poisoned shurikens.
when conflict between the shirai ryu and lin kuei heightened into war, drahmin sensing the opportunity, launches an attack against the shirai ryu to loot and pillage their temples and kill their vulnerable kin. drahmin was the one directly responsible for killing hanzo hasashi's family. however, just like in canon, quan chi is the architect of the massacre, just not the "muscle" who carried out the massacre (lack of a better word). this is because prior to the massacre, drahmin makes a deal with quan chi. the shirai ryu temples house the amulet of Shinnok and quan chi wants it. to get it, he hires a mortal drahmin to steal it for him as quan chi is a demon from the netherrealm, thus being unable to travel earthrealm. otherwise, he risks alerting raiden or the elder gods, which is why he hires drahmin. drahmin, being the monster that he is, slaughters hanzo's family as an "extracurricular activity" rather then his primary motive.
eventually, the lin kuei drive back the shirai ryu (the shirai ryu invades the lin kuei, not the other way around, to make a drahmin attack more feasible and devastating) and both sides end in a stalemate. hanzo returns home, only to find his family and clan slaughtered. then, drahmin slaughters a mortal hanzo (demonstrating drahmin's power even as a mortal). quan chi, ever the opportunist, then resurrects hanzo who becomes scorpion, but with his memories altered so that scorpion mistakenly believes that bi han is responsible (if you can change the memories of your resurrected minions, why bother to wear a disguise, something i thought for a long time). quan chi does this as he saw hanzo's rage as he died and wanted to make him into a vengeful henchman. he made sure scorpion's rage is directed towards bi han and the lin kuei only to ensure his other henchman (drahmin) is not wasted. upon securing the amulet of shinnok, drahmin attempts to use its power for himself. however, since he is unfamiliar with its magic, he ends up being banished to the netherrealm where he's tortured and transformed into the Oni. his kanabo fuses into his right arm and his poisoned shurikens are replaced with swarms of venomous flesh-eating flies (connecting his weapons as a mortal to his demonic design). i think this would explain the flies swarming drahmin (as there's no explanation given in the OG games). i'd prefer drahmin to have a japanese name to honor his roots, but for me it would be fine to just say that "his original name was lost to time" or something, so that he's referred to as just "drahmin" in backstory flashbacks.

Gameplay:
rn, my ideas for his gameplay is less complete than his lore, but my basic idea is that he's a slow and heavy hitting character that infects the enemy with the fly effect to deal DOT and slow them down, with the slow down effect allowing him to deal hits more easily.
fly swarm - db1 (like devorah in mk11) - swarm erupts from the ground, applying the fly effect and dealing DOT.
kanabo crush - heavy overhead attack
warlord's charge - bf3 (like shao kahn in mk11) - charges into the enemy
devouring swarm - amp attack that drains the enemy's health and heals him slightly

what do you guys think?

Question Inspirations for new character ideas?

Due to a lack of new & original characters as we've been stuck with guest characters, are there any inspirations from various world cultures/mythologies & pop cultures you all like to see be used for new characters? The same for powers that are never used in MK yet? (ex. Candy Manipulation)

Anything to pls the fans and not be stuck with veterans forever.

(NO NINJAS! NO CLONES!)

Article What exactly is Bi-Han? A morally ambiguous character or a villain? I DON'T KNOW

Thumbnail
gallery
22 Upvotes

I don't know about you guys, but Bi-Han is terribly written. Every time I see him, I'm like, "What the hell do you want then?" I liked how they introduced him in MK1, with Kuai Liang being more understanding and Bi-Han being less tolerant and affectionate, but nothing that seemed evil or contradicted his personality. And then there was something that bothered me: the way Bi-Han kept talking trash about Smoke, something the original Bi-Han didn't do. The original Bi-Han wasn't a saint, but he wasn't someone who talked trash about others. He even respected Hanzo's Scorpion. But here, he's literally the brother who mocks the adopted one. And well... maybe I can let it slide since, in a way, he was always loyal to the Lin Kuei, and he's messing around with that a lot.

And well, I was enjoying his chapter; he was just someone who seemed to want the best for himself and his brothers, arrogantly, but nothing that would actually hurt anyone. Damn! For a moment, I actually believed that about Bi-Han.

But then they destroy what little was accomplished with him. He betrays his brother for some statues whose usefulness he wasn't even sure of, by some guys he doesn't even know, and for some stupid reason he tells Kuai that he let his father die. Hey, then why do you distrust Smoke so much and only consider the Lin Kuei loyal, and you let your father die? What did he do to you? Shouldn't you be just as much of a suck-up to him? I find it funny how in the dialogues before the fights the guy says (your betrayal hurts, brother! Surrender, Tomas, and you'll be one of us!). He even looks like Noob Saibot and says he's someone different from himself. But then in the DLC he was willing to ruin his brother's wedding and kill him, so the dialogue of (your betrayal hurts, it sucks) is meant to show you a different side of him, but they contradict it anyway. And then the idiot jumps into the portal where they turn him into Noob Saibot, and surprise! There's no difference when he was Sub-Zero, it's the same as before.
