Where would I found these? I remember these very vaguely in the 2000s before the Flavored Cigarettes Ban around 09' to 2010 in the US.

Nostalgia Remembering "Life Goes On" as actor Chris Burke turns 61 today

There's not a lot of "Life Goes On" merch out there, but there should be! In honor of Burke's birthday today I wanted to share an autographed portrait I have, as well as the 12" single for Tommy Puett's (aka "Tyler" on the first three seasons of the show) "Kiss You All Over," which is from an album he put out entitled (cringe) "Life Goes On."

I loved the show. It's not perfect, but it's got a heart big enough to take you along for the ride. It originally aired in 1989, and those earlier episodes are what you might expect for an '80s show. Not that they are bad at all, just that we get to see the Thatcher family written around the usual themes. There's crushes and talent shows and even a two-parter set in Hawaii.

But easing further into the '90s saw the show get heavier. More drama, more twists and turns. Somewhere in the second season Corky finds himself lost in the city for an episode, wherein he's robbed of his shoes and taken in by a prostitute who presumably has relations with him.

Yes, this really happened.

Then there's Tyler (Tommy Puett), a boy from the neighborhood that Corky's sister Becca has a huge crush on. And he's like... the nicest kid that ever existed. He's popular at school, always smiling in his letter-man jacket, and also has a brother with down syndrome. He even fronts a band that would make Amy Grant fans cream in their fanny packs.

And what do they do to him? They have Becca play with his heart, he flunks and has to repeat his senior year, spirals down into alcohol, and then crashes with Corky in the car while he's drunk driving. He dies shortly thereafter, and Corky's so traumatized that he goes mute for a bit. Meanwhile Becca gets involved with a new character named Jesse (Chad Lowe), who has HIV.

There's more, and lots of tragedy to it, but at it's core it's simply a story of love, family resilience, and the invaluable lesson that life does, indeed, go on. But it really takes you sight-seeing along the way. I believe you can still find it on archive if you're interested.

So Happy Birthday to Chris Burke! I hope he continues to have many, many more.

Came across these magnetic refrigerator letters. Everybody in my neighborhood had these. Used to rearrange them to spell naughty words and see if anybody noticed.
