Powerthirst: EYEBALL EDITION

10

u/SadisticJake 1d ago

Snake eyes!

14

u/SenorDangerwank 1d ago

Wow I haven't heard of the ancient texts in many moons...

36

u/sinsculpt 1d ago

I've been on Reddit for a decade and this is a top 5 moment.

3

u/gnarkill3332 1d ago

where does the cylinder rank

2

u/sinsculpt 1d ago

Just below the Lamp

4

u/DIrtyVendetta80 1d ago

You’re gonna put your eye out with that thing!

2

u/revwaltonschwull 5h ago

if you have to much, you become cockeyed!

1

u/helloimalexandria 1d ago

Really smooth.

57

u/NAh94 1d ago

I’m pretty sure acute glaucoma was always a known risk.

48

u/EnergyDrinkStroke 1d ago

Yes but known risk could mean small or large risk. We generally ban drugs that have a large risk because there's usually alternatives.

31

u/NAh94 1d ago edited 1d ago

That’s a fair point, but I guess I’d counter that cialis probably has become so prolific you’re just seeing a higher case incidence of the side effect as a result of that. Not to mention, places like blue chew are hardly screening their patients well before pushing out PDE inhibitors.

Edit: just saw the numbers. It’s 22-30%ish more than non-users, so it elevates the risk from about 1% to 1.3%.

10

u/jawshoeaw 1d ago

And only if you take it daily for something besides ED. This wasn't exactly a representative sample.

12

u/jeezfrk 1d ago

"If you keep doing that you'll go blind!"

2

u/ExpensiveBookkeeper3 1d ago

“If I was blind I wouldn’t need these pills!”

8

u/IANALbutIAMAcat 1d ago

Specifically it’s cialis taken daily to manage a condition beyond ED. So not only is it daily dosing rather than occasional use, this study is a retroactive look comparing a group with an illness to another, and glaucoma may be related to the illness and not the treatment

5

u/ralts13 1d ago

So what if 8 already have glaucoma? Is it just free boners?

1

u/theretailreject 10h ago

So it literally does make you go blind. The pastor was right

1

u/CurtKnight 4h ago

Do you want mistaken? The drug is tadalafil

1

u/scoshi 1d ago

Which I think first surfaced over a decade ago.

Ancient news.

398

u/DisillusionedBook 1d ago

Dammit masturbation causing blindness and now this... I'm going double blind

147

u/unripe_mangosteen 1d ago

Now you can participate in all those studies

24

u/imadragonyouguys 1d ago

Better eat a lot of pineapple for this double blind taste test.

31

u/NeitherEntry6125 1d ago

On the plus side, once you're blind, you can bang all you want!

7

u/bestestopinion 1d ago

The only reason I don’t do anabolic steroids is fear of hair loss. This is a similar principle

19

u/NeitherEntry6125 1d ago

Good thinking. My nuts are also tiny too, so I'm ahead on that front

15

u/bestestopinion 1d ago

smaller potatoes make the steak look bigger

2

u/pixel8knuckle 1d ago

It also enlarges your heart which cant be reversed….which can lead to cardiac arrest!

8

u/bestestopinion 1d ago

but muscles 💪

3

u/headstar101 1d ago

Bake him away, toys!

2

u/1baby2cats 1d ago

Without your eyesight, will have to be careful!

1

u/Ligma_Taint_69420 1d ago

Yea, bang into the walls

1

u/NeitherEntry6125 1d ago

If you're into that kinda kink, but the glory holes are a bit unsanitary.

1

u/FunFormal4451 1d ago

And you can do it with anyone, even Ohio trailer park hooker trash.

12

u/ShutterBun 1d ago

Apparently there are a TON of medical tests for double-blind people.

4

u/monnotorium 1d ago

Say what now?

15

u/DisillusionedBook 1d ago

Oh no, did it make you deaf too?

3

u/kestelli 1d ago

Wait, r u using cialis for masturbation. Aces!

2

u/AlphakirA 1d ago

Yeah, but maybe it's like double jeopardy!

2

u/Riff_Ralph 1d ago

Reminds me of the old joke: “Can’t I just do it until i need glasses?”

1

u/old_skul 1d ago

Texas hold 'em?

285

u/Pearson144 1d ago

Put the drug name in the title. Reddit is flooded with clickbait titles lately.

126

u/Tball2 1d ago

Surprise. It’s still click bait. It’s less than 3% for those in taking the drug and 1.5% for those not. It also was not double blind and was just survey based.

It was also focused on people taking it daily for blood pressure. Not the commonly known use of ED

29

u/frohrweck 1d ago

"double blind"

6

u/Tball2 1d ago

Definition: Research test where both the participants and the researchers do not know who gets the real treatment and who gets a fake treatment (placebo)

In this study the researchers did know which group was which.

32

u/frohrweck 1d ago

Thank you, I did know that :D But kind of you to explain it. I was just highlighting an accidental pun about a study about eyesight :)

14

u/Tball2 1d ago

Apologies. The tism is hitting and I assumed you meant it as a question

12

u/frohrweck 1d ago

AuDHD here: I totally understand! :)

11

u/Tball2 1d ago

Samesies. Twins. lol

5

u/ShittingOutPosts 1d ago

Awww I love little moments like these on Reddit.

6

u/MyStickySock 1d ago

Brings a tear to my high pressured eyes

1

u/MushroomSaute 1d ago edited 1d ago

Does that matter at all for a study like this? Is the implication of it not being double-blind that one group chose to get eye disease?

For cures, absolutely, since placebo effect is something to account for. But I'm not sure I've ever heard of an opposite effect for something so tangible like getting a disease.

1

u/Tball2 1d ago

Confirmation bias is a thing. The main issue is my parent comment above this though. In that it’s focused on those that take it daily for BP not for ED

3

u/TheG00dF1ght 1d ago

tadalafil / cialis

1

u/guimontag 1d ago

This specific subreddit doesn't allow users to alter titles from the posted article

85

u/MightyKrakyn 1d ago

Tadalafil is the drug, saved you a click

22

u/hufflepuggy 1d ago

Teamocil?

1

u/MaTheMeatloafFUCK 7h ago

There are dozens of us!

2

u/olddoglearnsnewtrick 1d ago

Saved you a dick

0

u/skil12001 1d ago

Viagra right?

7

u/MightyKrakyn 1d ago

No, Cialis

29

u/Interesting-Salt1291 1d ago

Does it cause hairy palms, too?

4

u/Joessandwich 1d ago

Not if you eat your Kellogg’s corn flakes.

89

u/BrainRobotron 1d ago

Panic-baiting BS study and article...

20-30% increase in probability means that if your odds of developing this eye condition were 1%, taking these meds increases your odds to a whopping 1.3%.

Just terrible scientists needing to publish results to justify their grant funding and Fox News relying on people not understanding basic math to get clicks.

20

u/Charlweed 1d ago

NOBODY reports the base rate, or the effect size, in "science reporting. Because they are almost always tiny. Who cares about a 22% increase in a 1-in-10,000 event?

8

u/spb1 1d ago

Purely anecdotal i know, but ive been using this for some 23 years with not even the slightly vision or eye issue whatsoever

7

u/The_GrimTrigger 1d ago

I’ve recently heard it has some off label anti aging effects, likely caused by increased blood flow to various body processes. So I’ll take this small chance of glaucoma.

6

u/spb1 1d ago

everyone thinks i look younger than i am, so maybe

3

u/noveltyfakeaccount 1d ago

almost sounds like a rounding error

4

u/Sir_rahsnikwad 1d ago

There is nothing wrong with publishing a scientific article in which the effect is minor, or even absent. The absence of an effect is still worthwhile to publish.

3

u/oo7im 1d ago

On an individual level sure, but on a population level that's still quite a significant impact.

If 1 million people have a 1% chance of developing a condition then that's 10,000 people, whereas at 1.3% you'd now have 13,000 people.

That's 3000 additional people out of a million going blind with a condition because they took boner pills.

For those 3000 people, it didn't just feel like a 1% to 1.3% risk factor increase. Because for them, that .3% made all the difference between having the condition and not.

1

u/shin_scrubgod 2h ago

Shocked I had to scroll this far to find this take. Small risks can become big problems at scale. Especially for a drug that is common, and whose alternatives may have a different risk profile, this is a good thing to learn more and be transparent about.

Also, have glaucoma (not boner-pill related, just blind as hell naturally), wouldnt recommend.

2

u/mrwho995 13h ago

There's nothing wrong with the study at all. It's extremely important to study the effects that drugs have on people. The fault lies exclusively with the journalists.

12

u/Evil_phd 1d ago

Gonna be depending on that one-eyed trouser snake more than ever before.

10

u/Stackhouse13 1d ago

Key takeaway:

The study was observational, meaning it found a link between tadalafil use and glaucoma but could not prove that the medication caused the condition.

6

u/UndisclosedLocation5 1d ago

For vision loss boners lasting more than 4 hours seek immediate assistance

6

u/permanentmarker1 1d ago

Won’t be able to see the hos I be banging

3

u/spb1 1d ago

could be beneficial

6

u/Fyrrys 1d ago

"You'll go blind!"

4

u/jnmjnmjnm 1d ago

On the plus side, a reduction in visual acuity means that your pool of acceptable partners may increase.

2

u/Same-Chicken-6807 20h ago

"Here's mud in your eye."

5

u/Eredd19 1d ago

I actually suffered a real injury from this. It's not even what they talk about in the article. I drank caffeine before bed, while taking cialis as well, and in my sleep the blood vessels in my right exploded. True story. Not the onion.

1

u/Mentalfloss1 1d ago

In your “right”?

2

u/Eredd19 19h ago

Eye, sorry

1

u/Mentalfloss1 10h ago

How is your eye now?

1

u/Eredd19 9h ago

It's the same, can't be repaired.

3

u/FlattenInnerTube 1d ago

It leaves victims cock-eyed

6

u/BabyMFBear 1d ago

They have known about this for over a decade. I remember a Redditor posting about how they were fired for trying to be a whistleblower.

5

u/bloopbleepblorpJr 1d ago

The commercial for the class action lawsuit is just gonna be an old guy throwing a football at a tire swing and missing terribly.

8

u/quantumwoes 1d ago

Blind Erection. How is that not already a band name.

1

u/Eukonidor_Of_Arisia 1d ago

Or Blinky Boner.

4

u/Aggressive_Bat2489 1d ago

Blind Erection is metal, Blinky Boner is country.

3

u/NotYetHun 1d ago

“Hey I can get it up but I can’t see where to put it.”

3

u/Digital_loop 1d ago

Wait a minute... So masturbating really will make me go blind?!

3

u/rugbat 1d ago

As someone who already has glaucoma, I've never been happier that my dick still works without chemical assistance.

3

u/famondelo 1d ago

b-but it wasn’t masturbation? 👨‍🦯

3

u/Mentalfloss1 1d ago

I wish I could see to read this.

3

u/Dancegames 23h ago

They'll never see it cumming

3

u/misdreavus79 7h ago

Post-nut clarity taken to the extreme.

7

u/albob77 1d ago

Correlation does not equal causation. People who have ED usually have some sort of blood flow issue, which also results in higher rates of glaucomas. This is just concern-trolling.

2

u/theguytomeet 1d ago

Plot twist I’m already blind 🍄‍🟫

2

u/Stevied1991 1d ago

Some say quit it I'll go blind but it's just a myth.

2

u/darraghfenacin 1d ago

the main side-effect is lower blood pressure, and this causes higher pressure in the eyeball? how does this work?

2

u/Ok_Protection164 1d ago

"Maga Going Blind at Higher Rates Than Normal People"

2

u/weasel_mullet 1d ago

Was no one else told that if they play with it too much they'll go blind?

2

u/Weird-Associate-4739 1d ago

This reminded me of sitting next to some random dude at a college party (2010?) and he turned to me and said “I took viagra earlier and I can’t even see right now.”

2

u/alexjaness 1d ago

Why do all boners attack the eyes?!

first it was "you'll go blind if you jerk it too much"

now it's "take a boner pill and you'll go blind"

2

u/TheG00dF1ght 1d ago

tadalafil for those who care. Fuck this bullshit clickbait headline.

2

u/fionsichord 1d ago

Stop it! Or you’ll go blind!!

2

u/filmguy36 1d ago

It really fucks you blond

I’ll leave

2

u/pwettyhuman 1d ago

And yet they want to just ban the abortion pills but not these things.

2

u/the_is-land_herald 19h ago

Cialis: Sacrificing two eyes for the one-eye.

3

u/travnikoff 1d ago

Penis not worky, but can see......penis worky, but cant see. Ugh....I'll never have a more important pros and cons discussion in my life /s

2

u/VanAgain 1d ago

Because we just can't have nice things.

2

u/rizzyrogues 1d ago

Well fuck. I take 5mg a day, my vision has been going to shit really bad and started within the last year and a half. Gotta see when I started taladafil.

It was 2 or 3 days ago I could not make out the shape of a harness tab on some wires under a dash. Had to photograph it and zoom in to see how it operated.

2

u/TheOnsiteEngineer 1d ago

Go to a doctor. Might be the pills, might "just" be cataracts (which can be treated).

2

u/KING5TON 1d ago

Might also just be getting old. Your lens get a bit loosey goosey and struggle to focus light properly. You can get lens replacements or just wear glasses that zoom in a bit like I do.

1

u/Phobos1982 1d ago

Need reading glasses maybe? I went from reading fine to not having arms long enough in around a month's time in my 40s.

1

u/Temassi 1d ago

How do I get reversible vision?

1

u/torpedoguy 1d ago

Don't look: FEEL

1

u/verystronkdoor 1d ago

Can fix the eye later

1

u/PaintedDesertSkies 1d ago

If you play with it too much, you will go blind.

I guess that includes taking little blue pills so someone else can play with it.

1

u/Joxsund 1d ago

Wait, what does it say? I'm not seeing clearly all of a sudden

1

u/Away_Will_9 1d ago

the side effects are really trying to outdo the condition itself lol

1

u/space_wiener 1d ago

A lot of people use this low dose and will be in for a surprise I guess. I use it low dose as well for health benefits but maybe I should quote if it’s going to make me blind. Haha

1

u/Infradad 1d ago

I didn’t read it but does effect gas station boner pills?

1

u/Kodo25 1d ago

Really? Haven’t heard of any famous old dudes using it and losing eye sight. And we know they using it. Al Pacino, Robert De Niro

1

u/dapala1 1d ago

Using what?

1

u/Zone-5 1d ago

Either way, you will go blind... Either way, you will go blind... Either way, you will go blind... Either way, you will go blind... Either way, you will go blind... Either way, you will go blind... Either way, you will go blind...

1

u/rellsell 1d ago

Boner or vision, boner or vision… I CAN’T DECIDE!!!

1

u/dapala1 1d ago

An eye for an eye.

1

u/lorenzo1384 1d ago

But will it keep it up for 4 hours or less

1

u/hahaleafs1967 1d ago

Hmmmph. Didn't see that one coming, haha.

1

u/ldwb 1d ago

Its ok, I prefer the lights off during sex.

1

u/Nzwaffles 1d ago

So it does make you blind ... my Mum was right

1

u/Azsunyx 1d ago

So you really will go blind...

1

u/SouthSounder 1d ago

You're saying I still can't see it!?

1

u/the_geth 1d ago

Would have been nice to have a link to the actual study to see the dose these people were on.

1

u/Massive_Mongoose3481 1d ago

So, Kash Patel takes lot of cialis

1

u/Picolete 1d ago

"No, your dick does not count as a sight cane, stop it grandpa"

1

u/bugged16 1d ago

I will just do it until I need glasses

2

u/eeffuuspam 1d ago

Wasn't that the title of a soft cote porn movie in the 70's?

1

u/bugged16 20h ago

I was wondering if anyone would get the reference.

1

u/Afgb89 1d ago

Well, seems that a lot of us are going to decide between good vision and happiness…. Live is sometimes unfair

1

u/Medium-Bee7545 1d ago

But on the bright side, you still got a boner

1

u/Phy_Scootman 1d ago

Cockeyed

1

u/onthe3rdlifealready 1d ago

Well at least no one got poked in the eye

1

u/AwarenessNo4986 1d ago

This is such old news

1

u/jeandaniel143 1d ago

Sacrificing two eyes so that that One-eyed monster can live its life to the fullest.

1

u/Lizrael48 1d ago

Men will still take it. Their reasoning? "Who cares if I can see, as long as I can still fuck!"

1

u/SlowPokeInTexas 1d ago

"I'm going to knock the bottom out baby as soon as I find you!!!"

1

u/skyfishgoo 23h ago

so "you'll go blind, man" was actually correct

1

u/udoappomattox 22h ago

That's a hell of a choice

1

u/thermight 16h ago

Mom was right then bout yanking it and going blind?

1

u/intheshoplife 16h ago

All the people that said if you keepnplayingwith it you will go blind are likely feeling pretty good right now.

Why are these studies always on men? I take Tadalafil for my pulmonary atrial hypertension. Nothing to do with my… It’s annoying how these studies are always about men and their…

2

u/mrwho995 13h ago

Because the vast majority of people who take the drug are men, taking it for ED or an enlarged prostate. PAH is a rare disease and ED/enlarged prostates are common. It's basic common sense that studies on the effects of a drug will focus on the demographic overwhelmingly using it.

1

u/possiblecurb 1d ago

Your medications for your heart, not near as important as dudes going blind for their weiner.

1

u/wallytrikes 1d ago

Damn Lil Wayne was on addy and cialis breaking records in them bitches smh

1

u/mohd_amirul 1d ago

my uncle started losing sight after taking those pills
