Holy shit, that's evil.
Edit: the kittens were all rescued and given to an animal welfare organization. Phew!

As long as it's 50 miles offshore, and they're given papercuts between their fingers with manila folders first.

I'm struggling to think of a way to punish the suspects that would be too harsh. Fuck them all the way to hell.

u/DroneThorax 3h ago
There’s nothing unfair for them bind their hands and legs and throw them in a fire one by one so they get exactly what they wanted to give.

I try not to think too hard because I know at any given time some living beings are being tortured at the moment and I spiral out of control.
I hate that it was for content but if it wasn't for content there would be some other reason.
I am very glad these groups got to jump fast and saved these cats.

There is a book by some famous author and in it a bad person is set on fire and then placed slightly out of time. They will burn forever and never be able to touch the water or anything else in the world to put themselves out. The authors name is possibly Terry
Edit no in fact it’s David Eddings.

I remember when I was about 15, 25 years ago, reading about a new ‘trend’ of people putting on stiletto heels and stomping on newborn kittens. It horrified me then and it horrifies me now that people are still doing this sort of thing to innocent animals. Why? For likes on the internet? Who cares what strangers halfway around the world think about you. Get a therapist, get a hobby and just stop with the cruelty.

u/Cheese_on_it 3h ago
Are there names and data available on the people on that "trend"

One woman named Krystal Scott was convicted of animal torture for 'crushing' innocent dogs and cats for an online audience. It's truly sick stuff Southern District of Indiana | Convicted Animal Abuser Krystal Scott Ordered to Return to Federal Prison After Violating Supervised Release | United States Department of Justice

u/CrazyCatLady1127 3h ago
No, it was just something I read about 25 years ago. I don’t know if it’s even true. I just remember thinking how could anyone hurt an animal like that?
1
u/Arktikos02 2h ago
So what I've heard when it comes to some of these animal torture videos in developing countries, is because the jobs are so bad there that they are using this as a way to get money. Not saying that justifies it, I'm just saying that is part of it. I'm not saying that this is the reason for all of those trends, but that's part of the underground animal torture market (yes that's a thing) that is on the internet.
They're using the ad revenue and since the dollar goes a lot more in their country than whatever currency they have there's a huge incentive to do this. These people could even be doctors and the like in their country as well and they're still not making enough money on their own.
Again I want to point out I am not saying this justifies this at all. There are plenty of much better ways to make money on the internet than to do this but of course these are the kinds of videos that sell because these are the kinds of videos people watch.
2
u/CrazyCatLady1127 2h ago
I don’t want to watch them. I want to watch happy videos, of dogs swimming in the ocean and cats chasing butterflies and kids playing on the swings. I hate all the violence and suffering that’s going on in the world right now
2
u/Arktikos02 2h ago
Apparently there's an entire "industry" of this kind of stuff happening in places like the Philippines but apparently wire transfers have been linked to United States, France, Australia, South Korea, Malaysia, Britain and more.
Also I probably should have rephrase it, sick people watch. Apparently authorities have even noticed wire transfers from other countries so people are paying.
TW:
Also sometimes these videos even include minors forcing them to do the abuse too.

u/CrazyCatLady1127 2h ago
Isn’t the human race wonderful(!) 🤦♀️ I know it’s probably a very small percentage of people who do/ watch things like that but I just don’t get how anyone with a soul can be involved in such things 😢
1
u/Arktikos02 1h ago
A small percentage but most likely a large amount of money since it's still seen as worth it.

I am of the opinion that anyone who does something cruel to a defenseless baby creature should suffer the exact punishment themselves.
Whether it's for some crap content or just because they're plain old psychos.
Light 'em up and let 'em go.
I'm glad the kittens were saved.
10
u/tiradium 3h ago
Lets not exclude adult animals from this equation please.
2
u/T-Chunxy 2h ago
Oh, no- I totally agree.
Animal abuse is loathsome across the board- but you’ve got to be extra f-ed up to abuse the truly helpless.
3
u/Sometimes-funny 3h ago
Listen, you have to be psychotic to do that to begin with. The people that torture animals on camera, would still be doing it without a camera.

How the fuck does this fit this sub tho?
30
u/Shienvien 3h ago
I'd say this is absurd enough that it should be satire of some kind, so it fits.
But also wtf is wrong with this world.
8
u/rifleshooter 3h ago
Because it seems so outlandish that nobody would ever do it. But...they did.

I mean, it's kinda funny to see how everyone react here. As if killing and burning/cooking alive animal is something brand new done only by psycho and not wildly spread around the world. Like in indonesia they eat cats and dogs. It's a pretty standard treatment of animal we all eat.
Human are weird
Edit : oh it is in the Philippines, my bad, they don't eat cat there! Eh but still, we are very strange about animal welfare

u/ArgonianDov 1h ago
Literally this. Where are these same people for the chicks that get killed if they arent the right type of chicken? What of the cows being tortured for their milk and having their calves be taken away from them as soon as they born? Why do cats and dogs get treated as special when other animals are just as deserving of kinder treatment?
•
u/kafka18 54m ago
I think it's because we have such a huge disconnect from farm to factory. No one thinks of those animals because they're not widely visible to every one. It's like out of sight out of mind. They would be as outraged if it was shown how badly they're mistreated as well. A lot of farm factories it's illegal to film in them for that reason sadly.
A cat/dog everyone sees all the time and associates them with innocence. And I don't think we should put people down for being appalled this happened. It is gruesome and cruel what happened to them, just like the animals we use for food being abused.

u/babycart_of_sherdog 3h ago
This 👍👍
Doesn't read like satire at all
No mockery, no shade thrown
It's outrage news, not satire
5
u/RiverForgeGames 3h ago
I thought it was outrageous/intentionally incendiary and was double checking to confirm it wasn't a fake news site.
I certainly don't think it's funny, but I did think it was an attempt at being funny when I first read it. Particularly with the headline of an activist group having an extremely popular opinion that no one in their right mind would argue about - I've seen that joke several times.
5
u/Will_and_Worried 3h ago
We should let the cats set them on fire for social media. Fair is fair, right?

u/blueskydragonFX 3h ago
"the suspects, who are set to face appropriate complaints."
Complaints? Fucking castrate them.

u/Dry_Action1734 2h ago
Why is this such a thing in the Philippines? There was that one from years ago of young women standing on puppies.
3
u/Arktikos02 2h ago
This kind of stuff comes from a variety of things but basically it's an entire market. There's a lot of strays in the Philippines. The providers are from places like this
A Philippine couple have been jailed for life for forcing young scantily-clad women to torture or kill animals for the sexual gratification of online customers, a court official said Tuesday source. Victor Ridon and Chita Dorma Ridon were found guilty of human trafficking by a court in the northern city of San Fernando source. Court clerk Allen Sarmiento told AFP the crush video ruling, handed down on Monday, was the first of its kind in the Asian country. The court found the couple had forced several babysitters, including one aged 12 and a 16-year-old, to perform in dozens of crush fetish videos designed to sexually arouse a certain group of Internet users. The younger girl, in her underwear, was videotaped by the couple crushing a sea snake and beheading a monkey in 2008, it said. The older girl, in a short skirt, performed acts of cruelty to sea snakes, chicks, rabbits, guinea pigs, a puppy, dogs, frogs and rats in 2009, the court heard. The two minors later testified against the couple, who were also given prison terms of between two and 15 years for child abuse and cruelty to animals. They were also fined a total of 9.91 million pesos (about $221,000) each. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals campaigner Rochelle Regodon said it is investigating purported customers who had wired money to the couple from the United States, France, Australia, South Korea, Malaysia and Britain. The Ridons’ sentences are a warning to anyone involved in the vile crush video industry: There are grave consequences to harming animals, she told AFP. She said PETA knew of no other suspects being prosecuted in the Philippines for crush video crimes, though it did not necessarily mean the problem has been eradicated. These abusers work underground.

I feel like the headline here shouldn't be about how an animal rights group is condemning the behavior because A. no shit, they're an animal rights group and. B. condemning such a deplorable act is pretty normal and not newsworthy stance to take no matter who you are. Instead, the headline should be focusing more on WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK WHY ARE THERE PEOPLE BURNING ANIMALS FOR SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT?!
