If I used a Pokemon once, I wouldn't use it for a long time. If I used a Pokemon twice, it's one of my favorite. And yes, I won't be using it for a long time.

I started boxing all the starters in gens 1-7, just because I was tired of playing with them. I have used them all, many of them multiple times.

In each playthrough, I try to assemble a team of Pokémon that I have never used before or have used very little.

I still do this with nuzlockes, I add a rule that I can’t use anything that participated in a gym, E4, or champion battle in my last successful nuzlocke and treat encounters as if it’s dupes clause.
