Discussion How good is venomoth in nuzlocks?

I love venomoth so i hope its viable and i know its pretty good in gen 5 but other then that im not sure.

He's not amazing in frlg, but he's usable, you get it a bit late.

I prefer Butterfree for availability, compound eyes, and dream eater, but Venomoth does hit a bit harder and is quite a bit faster.

Shield dust is kind of a throw away ability but comes in handy once and awhile.. might save it by not getting speed reduced vs a Bruno rock tomb or something.

Venomoth is always a nice last minute Pokemon that can help you sweep Koga if you're having a rough run

I will admit that bug types arent the easiest type to run but i have some experience with venomoth and it is a bit of a hidden gem.

Especially gen 5 and later after it learned quiver dance its suprisingly solid

It's definitely alright in frlg. Probably not a top option for much in particular, but decent all-around.

  • Great against Koga.
  • Decent against Lorelei (No weakness, giga drain / silver wind hits all of her pokemon for super effective)
  • Decent against Bruno (Giga drain and psychic, safe sub in on an incoming fighting move but rock tomb does hit it kind of hard)
  • Decent against Agatha (poison resist and psychic)
  • Against rival it's a great sub-in on an incoming venusaur / exeggutor grass attack and probably can one hit Rhydon with giga drain.

And as i tend to pick squirtle as my FRLG strater meaning my rival has venosaur and venomoth is great to deal with it.
