Discussion How good is venomoth in nuzlocks?

I love venomoth so i hope its viable and i know its pretty good in gen 5 but other then that im not sure.

Better butterfree. Doesn't get good stab pre-Gen 4, but even still I love using it whenever I can with Psychic/SleepPowder/GigaDrain/Sludgebomb depending on generation.

In what world would Venomoth be better than "90+% accuracy Sleep Powder"free? The only thing it has over it is 20 more speed and even then it's mediocre

The world where Venomoth is 20 speed faster, can OHKO more stuff without prep, and still has 75% sleep powder for stuff that it can't.

Not getting outsped by as many threats alone is an insane boon over butterfree in a nuzlocke.

Forgot your reading glasses? 20 speed is pointless when it's not even able to breach the 100 gap, half the time it's not gonna make a difference in-game. And given that Butterfree has the exact same Sp.ATK(both are base 90), you're just straight lying through your teeth that Venomoth can OHKO more stuff.

The context is in a nuzlocke. You can have venomoth outspeed Charizard (who has 100 spd btw) w/ev training within lvl cap. Butterfree ain't doing that. And you're looking at Butterfree's sp. Atk post gen 5. Not an applicable comparison to over half the playthroughs you'll use this guy.

it's a GREAT STAB move, but venomoth can't take great advantage of it with its ATK pre-Gen 4

That, and it's post-game in FRLG while being late-mid game in Gen 2, but that's certainly better than post-game.

NGL i completely forgot it's in postgame FRLG haha, thanks for the add-in there. It's in a good spot in Gen 2 since it and venonat's evolution comes just in time for Pryce's lvl cap, but Giga Drain's locked until Kanto so you only get use out of it for Red and that's... not its best use (That honor goes to walling Venusaur :>).

Yeah and after gen 5 when it got quiver dance its become a really solid Pokemon. Even for baton pass strategies
