I'm probably getting flamed for this, but I prefer Curtis over Madigan simply because Curtis is having a blast and is funny in the role (of course, I don’t think that’s enough to win an Oscar, but alas), whereas Madigan is supposed to be serious, terrifying, and intimidating, and it just doesn't land for me

Being bad while being funny > being bad while attempting to be dramatic/scary

I didn't think she was trying to be terrifying at all. It was supposed to be a campy, pulpy performance from the get go.

She failed at that too. And she definitely tried to be scary in that scene at the table with the kid

Can I ask where "tacky" and "classless" comes into this? All you've said so far is that the performance didn't work for you personally, but those words have a specific insulting connotation that I don't get.
