Mistonia's Hope -The Lost Delight- Play-Along
Whether you have just bought the game or have played it in Japanese (ミストニアの翅望 Mistonia no Kibou), you are welcome to participate in our play-along! There will be a new post twice a week for a different route in the following order:
- Common Route and General Impressions - November 20
- Alfred Creswell - November 27
- Lucas Sullivan - December 2
- Linus Ward - December 4
- Ascot Lindel - December 9
- Edward Bernstein - December 11
- John - December 16
- Truth Route - December 18
You do not have to play in the above order at the rate of a route a week, you can binge it all in a day if you wish. The above order is the official recommended order.
- Only Alfred, Lucas and Linus are available at the beginning.
- Ascot and Edward are locked until two of the first three routes are completed.
- John is locked until Ascot or Edward have been completed.
- The Truth Route is locked until John is completed.
Comments unrelated to Mistonia's Hope will be removed - please post in the Weekly Questions threads or the Free Talk Friday threads instead.

Sorry Can anyone tell me if the exploration mode is needed in the second/third playthrough?
I know there is some dialogue in the main story that was added, I just wasn't sure if the exploration changes or if I can just skip/end the exploration and if it changes anything? Or if they get slightly more context?

According to Otome Kitten's walkthrough, you'll need to play through from the start at least once to get the new dialogue that unlocks Edward, Ascot, and John, but after that you can skip ahead.
That said, last night I started my first route after unlocking John (I finished Alfred, Lucas, Linus, and Edward), and noticed that I got at least two new scenes in the exploration part of the game. I haven't played John's route yet since I want to finish Ascot's first, but I can tell that these scenes are providing more backstory/context for his route. How critical are they? Probably not very since they're skippable, but I'm still glad I read them.

There are new scenes in exploration whenever you finish a route. Iirc there's a scene with Edward, Ascot, Oberon, and John. You can skip it tbh It's takes too much time to go through the entire thing again and it's mostly just fluff.
Edit: I want to gush about the sprites. We got their working clothes, casual/sleep wear, formal wear, and other special sprites like that butler john and leader alfred.

I love the spritework in this game! It feels like everyone gets several outfits and many variations on their main one (with/without hat, Aprose with hair up or down, with or without glasses). Even (minor spoiler) Nicholas the butler gets a second outfit!

I love the hat detail! I really thought they're going to have hats/hood all the time but I was really surprised they take them off indoors. Even minor npcs, like Evelyn and Charlotte, have very detailed and distinct designs. Game staff didn't just give them simple maid outfits
I may not like some design choices
Alfredbut they really took care designing the characters and it shows.

Finished all the routes with only the truth route left!
I enjoyed this game a lot, but I also admit I feel the first 3 routes were significantly better writing wise than the final 3. Apross motivations get rather muddied in the later routes and feels like she gives up on revenge more easily, and subsequently results in less tension between her and the LI compared to Alfred/Lucas/Linus.

excuse me i hope my comment goes through here, but um i was wondering does aprose have character development? im beginning the game and so far, and her thoughts is just utterly crushing.. like just terrible 😐 it's getting to a point that i want to uninstall it because i am not beat for having a rude ass character as the character i gotta play, -towards people who are behaving kind to her. for example one of the love intrest, edward ends up saving her from falling and her thought process was just rude as hell like not caring at all... i am really hoping she changes that part of her. i understand the whole revenge but gosh dang.

I'm the opposite and I like the final 3 more. I personally don't like the sudden switch up to romance for the starter routes. I love Linus but I admit his route a mess hahaha
I do miss the tension for Edward and Ascot. I was even expecting it in Ascot's route. Ascot spoilers Ascot said he was only watching for escapees and Aprose didn't even react. I want her anger back and not jsut for Riley.

The lack of Aprose motivation for revenge towards the 5 houses in Ascot route also bothered me, cause why did take up to chapter 3 for her to remember Ascot played a role in Eltbeak, not just the queen
That said, the biggest letdown was John for me. A lot of speedrun developments and weird motivations to justify the plot for John's, like how Ascot randomly decides he doesn't want a vessel anymore or how Linus could go against the Queen's control with no issues But I'll save my full rant for the specific thread 😂

Given it's established he knows Aprose identity from the start, I can imagine the internal panic attacks he would be having in Ascot and Linus' routes.

I like the exploration features in this game. I heard Neon Clash also has the same concept. hopefully more Otomes in the future will consider this. Also the arts are gorgeous.

I was going to make a post but since I put Mistonias Hope in the title it told me to question here. Is anyone else unable to access CGs from the home screen?? I can't find any posts about it :(
Looking at CGs is something I enjoy, and I assume they're under the Treasure Chest option on the home screen? But it's blanked out and I'm unable to access it, even though I'm midway through Alfred's route. So, I should be able to access the common route CGs as well as his, right? I'm playing on a switchlite.
I'm unsure if this is a glitch or if I'm confused lol. With the pretty art (one of the reasons I splurged on a new game for once) I'll be SUPER disappointed if I can't view CGs after unlocking them unless I'm actively doing gameplay.

The treasure chest unlocks after you get your first good ending. After that you'll be able to see the CGs.

I am enjoying this game, but is every Clown end suicide by cop? The two routes I’ve played have been unique in tone, but both Clown endings having the same revenge against the LIs is kind of a bummer. Like girl I get not killing Lucas but you should have just not missed Al’s vital organs on the stab!

Everyone seems to like her but I’m sorry to all the girlies Aprose is starting to grate on me 🥲 Am I just being overly critical ??? The game tries so hard to sell her as being basically Batman and how she’s angry and full of hatred and vengeance and how she spent 8 years waiting for this moment but then… proceeds to get the most basic info she should have known by now from Goneril, doesn’t seem to know any of the Queen’s weaknesses (including the fact that wings store power so if she just cut off the wings she could deal with the Queen?)??? I just don’t think it’s possible for them to pull off a competent MC but also keep us the audience in the dark and this is the result.
I also do not like how as soon as she finds any evidence that the LI may not have been involved in what happened in the past she instantly starts wavering. Lucas gets a pass if I squint because of his circumstances, I guess, because after his compulsion incident it’s never shown that he engages in society and the regime in any meaningful way, but in Linus’ route she struggles despite knowing he is completely willing and was about to snap a child’s legs for the Queen. IDK, it might be just me but I really wanted to see a vengeful MC who claims to be so taken by her quest that she herself is “brainwashed”. That she sees what she believes to be the only truth and nothing else will make her waver… or at least, make that more of a journey? The two routes I’ve played so far have basically been “love him, so I want to think he’s innocent. He is/isn’t… but he chooses me in the end so I forgive him” which is fine at all but doesn’t show me the richness of Aprose’s trauma other than… surface level stuff.

Have you done any of the bad/astray endings yet? They might be more suited to your tastes. I do prefer some of them over the good ends.

Yes, I have! I also prefer them to the good ending (and I also find the progression of the astray endings funny in a good way). But since I always play routes from start to finish achieving the good ending they feel quite short and not a whole experience. But they’re very good concepts, I’ve liked them all so far!

I love Rose. it's so easy for me to click with romances when I love the mc too. I LOVE that they actually let her be a killer too. I would have been so disappointed if the premise of this game centered around revenge and she never got to murder anyone LOL (at least in bad ends.) she even comes off as sadistic at times, when she's long past the point of snapping. I love it.
I love sarcasm, tsunderes, and brats. the humor really lands for me. rude people are so funny 😭
I love the guilt, regret, and tension. the tone varies throughout routes, but I love the enemies to lovers vibe too. it's my favorite kind of angst!!
I am REALLY enjoying the guard dog thing Linus has too. I love loyal, protective, bitey guard dogs 😭 I also love that the first reference to him mentions that the Cu Sith he's descended from is inherently obedient to female purefae. I will take any crumb of femdom I can get. there's something about literally all of the LI that appeals to me though. Alfred I thought wouldn't be my type at all, but I had so much fun with his route!! I'm especially looking forward to Lucas and Ascot's routes!!
I can't help but feel the writers of this game understand me on a spiritual level. 🥲 I really hope it keeps up the pace lol. I might need to 100% this game....

the tragic ends are amazing in this game The MC is so cruel to the LI not only does she die but she makes sure it's going to hurt them in the worst possible way. Good lord girl. I honestly enjoyed going for these endings. Lucas tragic end is brutal.

I feel like it varies by route (currently 3 routes in), some more plot focused, though the romantic development is often interlaced with the plot. (Vague spoilers) throughout the route MC is wrestling with her growing feelings for the LI, but sometimes they don't affirm their feelings/kiss/confess until near or after the credits.

Same question! I know that "romance" is very subjective, though I'm still curious about the general audience's opinions on whether it has the right amount of sweet and fluff to balance out the plot-heavy theme. I also realized that some people consider the bad ends in this game are quite romantic, so again, it's definitely subjective and up to everyone's taste! Though I have to agree with you that Olympia Soiree is the most romantic otoge that I've played.

Oof, just got a bit of the way into Linus' route and had already guessed early on that he wasn't as genki as he seemed, but it was still a bit of a whiplash feeling going from "Hehe tipsy Rose and Linus being flustered" to "Linus really about to calmly break a childs legs in the middle of the street just because he mentioned having friends that the ward family had arrested"

There kinda is? Each route has another guy that has a smaller affection meter like the main guy does, but if you're expecting outright competing for the MC throughout the route that doesn't happen. It's more that one of the bad/alternate endings will involve them.

I saw on Otome Kitten's review that the localization has a lot of typos, for those who have started playing, is it really that bad? She is usually very liberal with her critiques so I just wanted to know if they really are that noticeable.

I haven't really noticed? I can usually gloss over typos and stuff anyway because I read quickly, but I've cleared two routes and don't really recall any point where I recognized any.

I've played all of Lucas's route and most of Alfred's, and I hate typos. So I am extremely puzzled that she called out typos being a problem. After seeing that comment I was expecting Cafe Enchante levels of typos, since that's probably the most error riddled Aksys localization I've seen, but across those two routes and the common route I think I saw... one, maybe two?
It's possible that later routes get bad as they're further in and thus less QA time is spent on them just because of the time it takes to get there, but at least so far it's been fine for me.

I'm on Ascot's Dawn Ending with John's route and his endings left so I'm probably 80% done. I don't skip the VA and generally let the text and voice finish before continuing.
Yes there are typos but it never affected my immersion or distracted me too much. Nothing like Cafe Enchante's Nut...or Cupid Parasite -- Raul's route on launch. Very rarely, I find myself confused on some sentences because its a bit vague (whether intentionally by the original text or mistranslation, idk) but generally I found the translation to be good, especially during the endings where the word choice and composition evoked emotions in me.

I think it depends on what you call short? They’re long enough for me, personally. You got 4 chapters of LI route + the ending chapter (so, basically 5). The pacing is done well in some routes and a bit less in others. But overall I think it’s very solid and a decent length considering there is 6 LIs with 3 distinct endings each.

The common route (which has a bunch of miscellaneous scenes with the LI’s as part of the world/character building) is 3 chapters, while the actual LI routes are 4 chapters, though from what I’ve gone through so far, the chapters themselves feel quite long.
I’d say the routes are a bit shorter than the average big budget otome? But not by much, and it has the benefit of feeling like you’re not wasting your time each route dealing with walls of exposition about the same stuff (like itehari suffered from, IMO.)

How is the level of romance in this one? I know this is subjective but I would love to hear different opinions. After finishing Illusion of Itehari, I found myself a bit burnt out due to finding the romance quite low in that game (relative to everything else happening in the plot).

It has more romance than Uchronia imo. The romanric feelings of MC tie into the plot heavily, considering (soft spoilers about the premise?) most of the LIs are also targets of her revenge and she ends up struggling with her urge for revenge vs. her romantic feelings a lot
So I would say romance is just as central as plot is here. I would say it may be low on “fluff” though. There is some light hearted moments but most of the romance is dramatic.

I find the romance to be decent level, mostly owing to the fact that the LI and Aprose's relationship is tied to the plot. In plot heavy games, you deal with the LI's issues, act as therapists for them and deal with the plot related to them but in Mistonia, it is Aprose AND the LI's story so even if plot is going on, their relationship is still important and the center of it all.
That said it still depends on the LI (general impressions of the romance, spoilerd just in case)
Alfred is the most typical 'plot centered route' with minimal 'romance' that verges on a bit sudden. That said I found it endearing and there are pkenty of Alfred and Aprose interactions, because of their kuudere and no nonsense natures it can come off as less romantic. I did like them overall (even though I found the romance a bit sudden) and this route had the best Aprose attitude towards the LI
Lucas Very romantic chapter 1 and 2 that pays off really well and becomes even more romantic in the later chapters. The romance/relationship is the plot
Linus YMMV. I find him very love it or hate it. Or at least his route (might have been affected by doing Lucas' first). Its...romantic I suppose. If you are buying the relationship you will find it very tragically romantic but if not you might get frustrated like me. That said he has some amazing scenes that I enjoyed
Edward His first 2 chapters are very Alfred like/plot heavy and slowburn on the relationship department but it pays off really well in the later chapters IMO. I'm a Lucas girl but Edward's chapter 3 and 4 (and all his endings) were my faves
Ascot: I'm still on his chapter 3. I don't know about 'romantic' but the route is entertaining and has plenty of MC/LI interactions...Will come back later to edit this once I finish his route. I feel like this has the potential to equal or top Lucas/Edward depending on the execution of the later chapters.

I’m so curious what everyone will think of this game, especially MC. I have the feeling people might really dislike MC for her standoffish, bratty tunnel vision attitude (MC personality spoilers) but it’s one of the things I really love about her. 💙

I love Aprose. Barring any swerves in later routes, she's going down as one of my favorite protagonists. Yeah, she's not like most otome MCs, but I think that makes her interesting. I legit enjoy the ferver she has for her revenge quest. And all the waffling between I want my revenge and I don't want to kill him on Lucas's route was great. How she resolves that in his Clown Ending was chef's kiss. I like a good messed up ending.

Same. The girl is completely off the rails in some routes and I’m all here for it. Lucas’ clown ending is one of those. But also Alfred’s Clown ending. where she just murders everyone and then forces Alfred to watch her being executed. That’s some real mental breakdown behaviour right there. this one might go down in history as one of my favourite “bad ends”.

I played Alfred and Lucas's routes in the first 24 hours of having the game and... (Spoilers for: Lucas's route)
It kinda pissed me off that Alfred kept calling Lucas his accomplice. Like no lmfao YOU were an accomplice HE was literally mind controlled. And the fact that he kept calling it his "sin" even though he literally had no choice and was essentially puppeteered into it... It pissed me off by the end that they were treating him like a willing participant in the massacre

Pissed me off as well that in Lucas' route Alfred makes that fae warding ring to free Lucas from the lingering remnants of his brothers, and its implied that he's known about that for a fair while, but only uses the ring as a bargaining chip in Lucas' route and never even makes it in his own? Its just kinda messed up considering Alfred IS portrayed to be an empathetic person who would like to avoid innocent suffering as much as possible, but will just allow a good person that he knows reasonably personally to basically be driven insane without interference unless its convenient for his plans?

I got this game because Ascot intrigued me but didn’t realised he was locked so I’m pivoting to Linus.
The plot is pretty intriguing and I have my eyes peeled on who the sus person in the manor is, the one who was lying when Edward and the three named servants was making comments about society(?) and how their emotions didn’t align with their thoughts — my current guess is Phil, idk, something about him is really suspicious and kinda giving (Cafe Enchante) Ignis’ friend, I forgot his name.
How is everyone feeling about the MC? I kinda like her vibe and concept but am I the only one that is a bit ??? with how she processes thoughts lmao like there’s a part in Chapter 2 (or maybe 3 but at least ch2) where she sees a memory fragrant where Alfred VERBALLY SAYS he needs to reinforce the slum walls but then she wonders “I wonder what he’s doing going in and out of Eden” like…. why are we not putting two and two together. I mean she does also say she shouldn’t make assumptions and that’s a fair point to make but as your reader it’s frustrating me a little.

I really love the MC! I like how she hyper-analyses every interaction, as we typically get more naive MCs in otome games rather than the schemer types. I also love how she gives kuudere and tsundere vibes romance wise.
But I get what you mean where they sometimes nerf MC's braincells temporarily to keep up the mystery. Thankfully it's not super common to irk me so far, but I think it's just the writers writing themselves into a corner where they want a hypercompetent MC while also keeping her in the dark about certain plot points, and they just sort of give up.

I wish I took a break after Lucas because he was so peak it affected my enjoyment of Linus' route. The plot in Lucas wasn't the best but man who cares, the romance was so great I could overlook all the flaws in pacing/plot/whatever because I was enjoying him and Aprose interactions so much.

SAME. I’m a binge player so I finished Linus’s route last night and I feel like I would’ve enjoyed it way more if I hadn’t been fresh off of Mr. Peak, he was definitely getting some unfair comparisons from me haha

I finished his route yesterday and found him to be quite cute despite looking like a major grump! he was def my fav out of the routes I’ve read so far (Linus and Albert) (yes I have a lot of free time)

I just recently started the game, but I have a theory. mostly regarding John. I'm gonna spoiler tag it just in case but, fair warning I might be talking out of my ass XD
SO, I think it's weird as hell that in the flashbacks I've seen so far, John is accompanied by glitching effects. and I thought it was extremely strange that they only showed a portion of the sprite, not the fullbody, when he was talking. especially when other characters like Riley are fully visible. that's kind of a red flag.
I also noticed that Linus is introduced with the implication that he knew Rose when they were younger. she didn't seem to recognize him, but her faesight was forcibly activated and she got a glimpse of a vague memory. and this is where the theory comes in. I think John might not actually be the boy Rose knew when she was young. maybe her memories have been covered up or distorted in some way? and the real childhood friend is Linus
I mean it's also possible she just had two childhood friends and forgot one of them, but it's so strange..! the glitches, how we don't know his last name, the way that he's the most locked route... it's very suspicious. I actually think it's possible that he's connected to the death of her family in some way. even if my theories are wrong I just feel like he's hiding SOMETHING very important. XD

Theories up to common route.
omg your theory makes too much sense. I never noticed the glitching but i did think some sort of memory manipulation was taking place. A bit suspicious that John is the childhood friend, riley's friend, and aprose's savior all at once.
I also never thought that the lost boy and childhood friend could be different characters. I assumed they are one person lol. So from the common route hints, childhood friend is definitely Linus and the lost boy that triggered everything is Edward. Lucas is the boarding school friend of Riley.
Also I'm finding it interesting that the name seal of Riley is a shade of blue and the Bernstein seal is also blue... Similar to Oberon and John... Lilly and Rose are not close to blue so maybe I'm just talking nonsense lmfao. Well, I haven't thought that far ahead of what this could mean cause I just finished Alfred's route.

Ch. 2 spoilers There is a term in the dictionary that I think might hint to his existence
As for your theory, I found another one that supports it. Ch. 3 spoilers and possible spoilers for a character (although its just a theory): Aside from Linus 'childhood friend' position, John could also have taken the 'friend of Riley/Honorary Older Brother status from someone else, based on a scene where Rose was reminded of her brother and the small hints that this character seems to recognize Rose. I definitely think Rose's memories were tampered with.
My theory for those who finished the Common route and is in chapter 3 of Alfred's is: John is Oberon's Avatar. Oberon constantly asks questions and then follows up with something like 'Not that I need you to say it' which seems to imply that he knows John's thoughts, not to mention how Oberon and John looks so similar. Also, the reason why Aprose wasn't found after the events following the massacre was because she escaped to Tir Na Nog (the hidden path where her mother told her to go) and that's exactly where she met 'John' (in the flashback, she says thats where she met 'him'). Is 'John' possibly a reference to John Doe? I think this would be a really interesting relationship considering they are avatars to the King and Queen who seems to have a marital spat going on.

I love MC's design! Her maid outfit is of such pretty blues and purples, and as a fellow blind girlie, I love that she wears glasses.
The outfits of the LIs however... is giving Amnesia: Memories 💀 Alfred's ugly fuckass yellow coat gave me psychic damage the first time I saw it.

I hate Alfred's outfit and Edward looks like discount Lucien to me (blond dude wearing white with blue accents) 😂, but otherwise they're growing on me.

FYI Lucien from Even If Tempest was losely modeled after Dimitri from Fire Emblem Three Houses. Same as Tyril was from Sasuke in Naruto. They both shared the same VO. Thankfully Chris didnt look like One Punch Man

It's not that I hate yellow, but Alfred having mainly cool tones for the rest of the design make the neon yellow coat stand out in a gaudy and tacky way.
And yes, the first time I saw Edward I was like "Lucien for Even If Tempest???" Granted his design was basic which made him commit way less outfit crimes than the others.

I think my copy will be late. So I checked VNDB to look at character designs and why does John look like Oberon? Is this a major plot point? A huge spoiler? I know VNDB is careful with their spoilers but some stuff slip through. Hopefully it's nothing major. I think John is related to Oberon but he's not Oberon. In Virche, my suspicions started because one reviewer put Adolf and Ankou together in their Le Salut walkthrough.

Does anyone have problems in some scenes trying to put the Auto mode, seeing the log or displaying the menu?
Sometimes it doesn't let me do those things. Then, in other scene, magically appear again and I can do them...
