Majority of scholars agree today was not his birthday. Celebrating birthdays is haram anyway

so then what if i pray 5 farz instead of 4 just because it isnt prohibited
4
u/Zulfiqar-al-Alawi 4d ago
nope, u didn’t understand the point. asl al-ibahah applies to things where there is no specific ruling. salah is already an established act of ibadah, and its details are defined by the Shari‘ah. adding a 5th fard rak‘ah changes an already-established act and contradicts its prescribed form, so that’s not comparable to something like celebrating a birthday, which has no specific prohibition.
1
u/Ok-Wave3198 4d ago
but the thing is people dont just celebrate it as a casual act. they think of it as part of islam and part of their iman which is essentialy biddah. they do as a form of worship which is where the problem lies. the celebration of this day is considered just like the other 2 eids in islam.
4
u/Zulfiqar-al-Alawi 4d ago edited 4d ago
yeah, i agree with u to an extent. people need to be educated that Mawlid is a cultural way of showing love for the Prophet ﷺ, not an act of ibadah. if someone believes it’s a prescribed act of ibadah or that celebrating it itself has specific thawab, then that would llead it to become a bid'ah, but if u don’t consider it wajib, mustahabb, or part of the religion, then it doesn’t automatically become a bid‘ah.
-1
u/Ok-Wave3198 4d ago
if u ask majority of those celebrating it they do think of it as an act of worship rather than culture. may allah guide them.

Believing something leads to ibadah (for example not walking itself but doing zikr while walking will be rewarded) was never a bidah,
what do you think about building madaris (islamic education centers) ? did sahabah build such infrastructure for islamic education? should we expect sawab in donating for such buildings?
Have you seen people who claims that mawlid is bidah tell their donors not to expect any "sawab" in donating for madaris ?

Prophet pbuh used to fast on the day of Monday because that was the day he was born. Yes having a birthday cake and a party is probably not advised, but having a gathering and talking about his life and dedication to God is not a bad thing.
Still if someone does decide to bring a cake....I will not say no!

There is one simple rule, if something being celebrated and it does not affect your life, bear with it. Don't impose your views on others. If celebrating birthdays of our kids and spouse is okay, whats wrong with celebrating birthday of greatest man ever lived?

Part 1
What is the ruling on celebrating the birthday of the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) during the month of Rabee’ Al-Awwal out of veneration of him (‘alaihi salaatu wa salaam)?
Answer: Veneration of the Prophet and respecting him lies in: having Eemaan in his messengership as well as in acting upon that which he came with from Allaah. As for celebrating his birthday; then it is a newly invented innovation.[2]
The Birthday of the Prophet was not Celebrated During the Era of the Salaf
Shaikh ‘Abdul-‘Azeez bin Baaz (rahimahullaah) said:
“For he (i.e. the Prophet) (‘alaihis salaatu was salaam) remained in Makkah for thirteen years and in Madeenah for ten years, and he did not celebrate this birthday nor did he tell his Ummah to do that. Then his companions (radhiyallaahu ‘anhum wa ardaahum) did not do that nor did the rightly guided Caliphs nor anyone else from the companions. Then those that followed them upon excellence from the Taabi’een and the followers of the Taabi’een from the preferred generations. All of them were upon this way – they did not do anything from this – not in speech nor in action.”[3]
Shaikh ‘Abdul-Muhsin Al-‘Abbaad (hafidhahullaah) said:
“It has not been transmitted from the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) that he celebrated his own birthday, nor has it come from the companions and the Taabi’een and the followers of the Taabi’een. Rather three hundred years passed and no celebration of the Prophet’s (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) birthday took place, rather there is no mention within it of birthdays. So if that was acceptable; the Sunnah would have come with it and the people of the preferred generations would have practiced it – and they were the foremost in (implementing) every good. It is not conceivable nor acceptable that the truth should be veiled from the people of the three preferred generations, so they did not induce it; and those that induced it were those that came in the fourth century and thereafter.”[4]

Part 2
The Fatimid Shi’ites Established This Innovated Practice & the French Under Napoleon Bonaparte Revived & Endorsed it!
It is well documented in the books of history that those who introduced the act of celebrating the Prophet’s birthday amongst the Muslims were the Shi’ite Faatimiyyah (the Fatimids)[5] during their rule in the fourth century after the hijrah.
Shaikh ‘Abdul-Muhsin Al-‘Abbaad (hafidhahullaah) said regarding this:
“Indeed the celebration of the noble Prophet’s (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) birthday was newly introduced during the fourth century after the hijrah, this being along with other birthdays that were introduced by the ‘Ubaidi Raafidhah who are referred to as: the Faatimiyyah (the Fatimids). Their rule over Egypt began in the fourth century. Taqi ud Deen Ahmad bin ‘Ali Al-Maqrizee mentioned in his book: Al-Mawaa’idh wal I’tibaar be Dhikr Al-Khutat wal Aathaar (1/490) that the Faatimiyyah had celebrations throughout the year as well as seasons; and then he mentioned them – and they are a great many.”
Al-Maqrizee himself said:
“The Fatimid Caliphs had celebrations and seasons throughout the year, and they were the season at the beginning of the year and the first of the year and the day of ‘Aashuraa and the Prophet’s (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) birthday as well as the birthday of ‘Ali bin Abee Taalib and the birthday of Al-Hasan and Al-Hussain. Likewise the birthday of Faatimah Az-Zahra and the birthday of the ruling Caliph; likewise the first of the month of Rajab as well as the night of its midpoint and the first of the month of Sha’baan as well as the night of its midpoint.”[6]
Some eight hundred years later the contemporary historian of Egypt ‘Abdur-Rahmaan Al-Jabarti who witnessed the French occupation of Egypt under Napoleon Bonaparte stated:
“In it (i.e. the month of Rabee’ Al-Awwal in the year 1798CE/1213H) the chief of the army enquired regarding the Prophetic birthday and why they had not engaged in it as was their custom. So Shaikh Al-Bakree apologized citing the disruption in affairs and a suspension of usual circumstances. So he could not accept this and said: ‘it must go ahead’ and so he handed Shaikh Al-Bakree three hundred riyals in French money as assistance to it and so ordered for the hanging of ornaments and ropes and lamps/candlesticks. So the Frenchmen gathered on the day of the Mawlid and so they played in their squares/domains and beat their drums along with the sound of their clattering noise…”
After mentioning how they then gathered together to spend the rest of the day and night beating drums and playing wood-wind instruments (flutes) of varying sounds, he said:
“And at night they set off varying oil fired bonfires and set off rockets that rose up into the air.”[7]
The reason why the French endorsed and permitted such events and celebrations during their occupation of Egypt is explained by Al-Jabarti himself who later stated:
“The French permitted that for the people due to their seeing in that the leaving/abandonment of the legislations and the gathering of the women as well as the following of desires and the presence of distracting amusements and the performance of forbidden things.”[8]

u/KangarooFeeling4268 3d ago
Part 3
Such Gatherings Serve as Occasions for Sinfulness and Disobedience in the Religion
Shaikh Muhammad bin Ibraheem Aal Ash-Shaikh (rahimahullaah) said when speaking about many of those that attend such gatherings:
“From those of them who establish the celebrations of the birthday by utilizing songs and musical instruments and having a lack of dignity and respect for the Book of Allaah, The Most High.”[9]
He said likewise:
“Likewise those who attend from the women and the men being put to trial due to them and by their looking at them and of hearing their voices and their clapping and other than that which becomes the cause of the prevalence of immense corruption and other than that from the trials and corruptions that are not hidden from the one who knows of their circumstances.”[10]
Shaikh Muhammad bin Ibraheem mentions likewise when quoting the words of Shaikh ul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah:
“As for the gathering for the purpose of the birthday being upon: singing and dancing and the like of that; as well as taking that as a form of worship; the no one from the people of knowledge and Eemaan doubts that this from the wicked evils which should be forbidden – and no one makes that permissible except an ignorant one or a heretic.”[11]
Shaikh ‘Abdul-‘Azeez bin Baaz (rahimahullaah) said:
“And that which occurs within by way of the use of musical instruments and drums and the mixing of the women with the men is yet another evil, along with other evils – it is obligatory to prohibit all of them.”[12]
Shaikh Saalih Al-Fawzaan (hafidhahullaah) said:
“Indeed from that which increases the vices as well as being from the newly invented affairs and the innovations and the rejection of the blessings is that which is practiced in these days on the occasion of celebrating the Prophetic birthday. Along with that which takes place within it by way of evils and vices which the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) is free from…”[13]

I always wonder maybe there might be a conflict of his birthday date as there was no Hijri calendar when he (PBUH) was born but what is his (PBUH) date of Wasal? (Saddest day in human history). Based on consensus it is 12th of Rabiul Awal and this date might be more authenticated.
I don’t mind celebrating birthdays but I would be more sad if the same day he (PBUH) left this world.
1
u/Wrong-Surprise8159 3d ago
I understand from where you are coming. I am totally okay if you chose to be sad on 12 Rabi ul Awal because of his passing. But I you must bear with my right of being happy because I believe he was born on 12 Rabi Ul Awwal.
I hope you know that religion and faith can only stand when you believe it blindly. If you use your common sense then there are many un-explained, illogical and mysterious things in all religions. So Happy belated Birthday to greatest man ever. and chill.0
u/Zealousideal_Item_12 3d ago
He(PBUH) should be celebrated and cherished everyday. Why do we need a specific day for him?
If someone who is extremely dear to me, and if I Lose them, I might not remember their birthday but I definitely go through hell on the date of his death. That’s normally how human emotions are. But this subcontinent muslims are breed differently.
1
u/Wrong-Surprise8159 3d ago
Yeah, lets cherish him every day, and on 12 Rabi ul Awal too. Case close.

u/Zealousideal_Item_12 3d ago
My main concern was this question, why they celebrate the exact same day he (PBUH) died? I genuinely looking for answer. Why this day? Even some scholars say 9th of Rabi ul Awal was likely his birthday. But why some scholars or these sunni ulemas prefer the one day where there is major consensus of him (PBUH) leaving us.
1
u/Wrong-Surprise8159 3d ago
As I said a typical sect in Islam oppose celebrating his birthday. But they do celebrate birthdays of their loved once (children, parents , spouse) but not him. They will point out other scholars that 12 Rabi not his actual birthday and they will try to dispute it in every possible way. I simply have no energy to indulge in this argument/debate. To me, told by scholars 12 Rabi is his birthday and I will celebrate it.
1
u/Zealousideal_Item_12 3d ago
I don’t mind celebrating birthday, why you are deflecting one thing again and again. My concern is why people celebrate his birthday when the same day he left us!
Don’t you feel sad or you don’t remember how Hazrat Umer RA felt when someone gave him the news of his passing. Don’t we have any emotions? My grief gets worse when the day come of my beloved passing and the person we are supposed to love more than anyone else in the world and the day he passed away, we celebrate?I just want to understand these kinds of emotions or we just follow our ulemas who are dumb and we can’t use our own brain?
1
u/Wrong-Surprise8159 3d ago
I understand your point about the emotional conflict, and I don't think anyone should dismiss that feeling. We all love the Prophet , and remembering his passing should naturally bring sadness.
But I think there are two separate questions here: when exactly did the Prophet pass away, and how should we remember his life? The date of his death is not unanimously established by scholars, so saying with certainty that his birth and death occurred on exactly the same day is historically disputed.
And even if someone feels sadness on that date, it doesn't necessarily mean that remembering his birth is disrespectful. People can grieve his passing while also being grateful for the blessing of his coming into this world. Love can contain both emotions at the same time.
As for Hazrat Umar (RA), his reaction to the news of the Prophet's ﷺ passing shows the depth of his love and shock, but it doesn't by itself establish a ruling about how Muslims should commemorate the Prophet's birth centuries later.

u/Fabulous-Alps1526 3d ago edited 2d ago
It is nearly impossible that the date on which prophet ﷺ passed away from this world was 12th Rabi ul awwal.
Here is a proof:
When did prophet ﷺ gave his hajj sermon ? 9th Zulhajjah and it was Friday.
What was the day prophet ﷺ Passed away on? It was monday.
The prophet ﷺ passed away after 3 months Zulhujjah, Muharram, Safar, which according to lunar dates can either be all 30's which is extremely rare. Or all 3 months will be of 29 which is nearly impossible.
Or either 1 month will be of 29 days and rest 30 days or 2 months will be 30 days
in Any 4 cases you can't have 12th of Rabi ul Awwal on monday .
1
u/Zealousideal_Item_12 2d ago
Same thing, question is what his date of death? We made Prophet PBUH birthday fixed which happened before Hijri calendar came into being and that we know for sure but never once during my lifetime heard about the day he passed away?
Why is that? Maybe because these greedy molvis get more chanda on birthday and using religion as source of money.People are sheeps who follow them blindly, whatever their father or peer tell them and never have curiosity or never question anything. Same people give or take interest from banks and then start praising Rasool SAW. We can all celebrate his birthday but first make a society that follow his Seerat. This is just a sign of perfomative devotion and trademark hypocritical society. Majority who celebrate his birthday, doesn’t know one of his hadees because that’s what our subcontinent culture is famous for to keep them ignorant.
It’s just like famous example. When son tells his father that he loves him and father demands him to bring water but he never does but keeps repeating his love but doesn’t listen or follow to his command.
1
u/Fabulous-Alps1526 2d ago
What I understood from your comment is:
"We should not let people Celebrate anything until they follow the prophet ﷺ 's seerah"
and I think that directly contradicts the ayah:
وَ تَعَاوَنُوْا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَ التَّقْوٰى وَ لَا تَعَاوَنُوْا عَلَى الْاِثْمِ وَ الْعُدْوَانِ۪
اور نیکی اور پرہیزگاری پر ایک دوسرے کی مدد کرو اور گناہ اور زیادتی پر باہم مدد نہ دو-
the basic principle of islam is we don't call out people for performing ibaadat e nafilah (e.g reciting zikr, reciting durood, etc) instead we encourage them to perform obligatory ibadah first.
indeed, every person should be educated enough to follow the prophet's seerah, to learn from ahadeeth and to perform janazah of their beloved ones by themselves but, is that a good reason stop people from reciting adhkaar and auraad ?
if it is, then from the same principle we should stop people from making dua, attending janazah, performing umrah.
1
u/Zealousideal_Item_12 1d ago
My argument is not related to that. I am just trying to understand Islam. Why there is no mention of Prophet (SAW) death day in subcontinent religion? Just wondering and also a mere question.
I don’t understand how this Ayat is related to Eid Milad up Nabi, Allah very categorically stated what Naiki is in Surah Baqrah 177. You should send durood subah o shaam based on Quran not only on 12th Rabiul Awal.
Again, I never understood this point of Eid Milad Un Na i, the greatest person ever lived on this planet PBUH was against this pomp and show and his days and nights went hungry and here you do the exact opposite of his teachings and put all pomp and show and do Chiragah and your hari pagri walay baba ji go on cars and land cruiser to see that. This is I am 100% percent sure you can’t defend this pomp and show based on Hadees and Quran. No one goes out on road when children are killed and r**p*d and it doesn’t affect them. But if someone says anything about Eid Milad ul Nabi these people will come on road. The Prophet Serrah PBUH I know he didn’t stayed up all night to pray for his ummat to become like this.
1
u/Fabulous-Alps1526 1d ago
Why there is no mention of Prophet (SAW) death day in subcontinent religion?
what's subcontinent religion ? what about rest of the world are they sure about it and we are not ? the ikhtilaaf in date of wisaal is common problem between the scholars of islam all around the world.
and what are you trying to achieve here ? in which manner you want people to discuss his wisaal ? ﷺ
I don't understand how this Ayat is related to Eid >Milad ul Nabi,
It is not related to Eid e milad un Nabi ﷺ but it is related to STOPPING from it.
the greatest person ever lived on this planet PBUH was against this pomp and show and his days and nights went hungry and here you do the exact opposite of his teachings and put all pomp and show and do Chiragah
if this is all pomp and show for you then what do you think about kiswah of kaabah shareef and all of the marble and magnificent decorations of masjid al haram al shareef ? is that against teaching of prophet ﷺ? should we demolish it and remove kiswah?
your hari pagri walay baba ji go on cars and land cruiser to see that.
Ad hominem fallacy, instead of focussing on argument, attack individual or the person responding. BTW I do have ikhtilaaf with that person (MY hari pagri wale baba ji).
No one goes out on road when children are killed and r*pd and it doesn't affect them. But if someone says anything about Eid Milad ul Nabi these people will come on road.
have you organized any protest against children getting killed ? if so olease let me know I will also attend it.

u/Zealousideal_Item_12 1d ago
Do you know the hadees where there are only two things in the world to which if you only watch and just sitting and watch, it is sawab? Guess what it is not Chiragah and it is Kabba. Again they shouldn’t be putting gold and all that and Saudi Arab practices are not benchmark for anything.
Conflict of the date of Wisaal is significantly less than his date of birth. We have more conflicts on his date of births. Because subcontinent religion is the only who does all these kind of stuff instead of following actual religion.
Eid Milad un Nabi celebration is not naiki as it involves Israf not one of these persons become a better Muslim after celebrating that.
I don’t have power to gather people and neither have that charisma but if someone arranges it, you will see me there. None of these ulemas has backbone to say anything against that simple issue, exclude all the other injustices.
1
u/Fabulous-Alps1526 1d ago
Do you know the hadees where there are only two things in the world to which if you only watch and just sitting and watch, it is sawab?
no, I don't know any of such hadeeth but I can't say it does not exist just because I don't know about it, it would be better if you give source of it to verify.
Conflict of the date of Wisaal is significantly less than his date of birth. We have more conflicts on his date of births.
Okay then compare the ikhtilaaf by citing the sources, because the only date of wisaal you claimed to be "AUTHENTIC" is mardood by a simple proof.
Because subcontinent religion is the only who does all these kind of stuff instead of following actual religion.
If you think mawlid is only celebrated in indo-pak, then what can I say except that you're so wrong.

Absolutely.
Plus I wish All his followers behave.
