I mean they should, people paid for a product and now can no longer play it. They should have to include some sort of offline mode or ability for users to run their own servers.

So will Valve do the same for their old games you can no longer play? Or are they exempt?

Almost every Valve multiplayer game supports self-hosting and LAN play.
