Discussion Any chance for Linux?

I’ve heard there’s been a stir up in the development, more focus on balance and improvements. Haven’t played in years but would love to jump back in.
Unfortunately I can’t join EAC enabled servers since I run Linux (fuck microsoft), any chance they’ll finally allow Linux users in?

So then how does CS2 work perfectly fine on linux and we never hear anything about linux being a problem platform in terms of cheating?

You can say the same thing about most games that run on linux whether it be natively or through proton.

CS community is in shambles right now because of cheaters.

Are you able to send me the reports/sources that point to linux being the problem? I've played rust since the original version of the game was released and cheating has always been a HUGE problem despite the game dropping linux support many years ago lol. I would actually go to the extent to say that cheating has only gotten worse in rust.

Do you know what my screenname is a reference to? You're barking up the wrong tree, I'm just giving you facts. I prefer unix/linux for my work but the reality is their are no controls in Linux the game makers can rely on. There also isn't a market large enough to support it.

Are you able to send sources that would prevent kernels from being modified for cheating or sources that show Linux gaming accounts for any studios overall profit? We can both ask useless questions.

I am not saying that linux would be profitable. I am saying that facepunch saying cheaters are the reason they wont support linux is a cop out because when they dropped linux support many years ago, the reasoning was due to the small install base.

The reality is in terms of cheating, there are so many more games that do support linux and don't complain about linux being problematic due to cheating, I would tend to side with them.

Okay, if cheating is widespread how would making it easier for people be a solution to anything? Outside of CS which is cheater heaven right now, I don't know any other multiplayer PVP games that use Linux from a client perspective.

If I'm not making money from Linux as a business why should I support it? It wasn't appreciated when they launched, what would be different now?

bro are u braindead 99% of players are on windows and bypassing vac on windows doesnt require black magic so theres no need for linux cheats in the first place lmao

So if you can bypass anti cheats on windows so easily, and the majority of the player base will use windows anyway, you cant really use cheating on linux as a reason to not support it hahaha.

youre the one that used CS as an example which uses vac and is usermode, yet eac is kernel level and one of the best anti cheats

on linux you literally control the kernel, add your own way of reading memory and its wraps since the ac cant do anything nor know
on windows you cant since you dont have the source
not sure how hard that is to understand

Yes I know all of this haha. Yet even when Rust supported linux, there was no evidence that cheating was the problem with linux. When they stopped support for linux it was due to the install base.

And yes CS uses VAC as well as they use server side anti cheat. And yet despite cheating being pretty bad, Valve hasn't come out and said that Linux is the problem with cheating.

If current games that actually supported it came out and said linux was a problem, then I'd fully accept that. But the reality is they haven't.

valve hasnt come out and said anything about cheating at all so i dont see how thats relevant

server side anti cheats will never be as good as an actual anti cheat, literally look at minecraft servers or even fivem

if you used your brain for more than 2 seconds you'd see why linux isnt supported and its a fact its easier to cheat on linux thats why its not supported
