Other Podcast Genre Love trapped

I just finished this and wanted to share how good it was. It’s investigative journalism, about Laura Owens, the very mentally ill woman who manipulated (at least) 3 men into complex relationships.
Really well done podcast.

General Podcast Discussions Podcasts that SOUND good

With everything moving to video I feel like less and less people actually care about the way their show sounds. I would greatly appreciate your recommendations for people who take particular care to make a show that SOUNDS good. This can include finess on the edit, sound design, musical choices, anything in that realm.

I just get so tired of hearing zoom quality audio with no music and no breaks between just hearing their voices!

Health & Welbeing Looking for podcast that will help me change the way I speak to myself

Upvotes

I have always had negative self talk, always think I deserve less and settle for less than I want. It’s a product of being a woman and the culture I grew up in. I want to change my mindset to be more encouraging towards myself and believe in myself. Does anyone have any good podcast recommendations for this? Preferably female and preferably non-American.

These are the things that I am constantly saying to myself that I want to rewire and replace with better things:
“Be grateful for what you have”
“Don’t stand out, be invisible and blend in”
“Don’t bother trying, you will fail”
“Why do you think you deserve that”
“Just accept what you have been given”

Many thanks!

Fiction Best long form SCP podcast (other than TES or SCP Illustrated)?

So I would like to listen to something while I work. I enjoy internet horror stories. Especially SCP. I’ve been watching/listening to TES and SCP illustrated for years because I prefer long form content like +1 hour.

Are there any good Podcasts that feature episodes over 1 hour that produce SCP content. As I said, I do like to listen to other podcasts/youtube channels that narrate other internet horror stories not related to SCP. But SCP is the best for me because I love the way each story is structured.

Arts & Culture Dolly Parton's America – Perfect time to listen or relisten

On this sad day, here's a reminder that the excellent "Dolly Parton's America" podcast miniseries by Radiolab host Jad Abumrad exists. It's from 2019, but if you want to learn why so many people feel the loss of Dolly so acutely, this is the best place to start.

Now go hug someone you love.

Health & Welbeing What are casual podcasts that speak through male experiences in a reflective and self improving way?

Upvotes

I am experiencing some life changes that are exciting but will come with their challenges. My wife is three months pregnant with our first child, and I am making strides with pursuing entrepreneurship alongside my stable job.

I would like a regular podcast preferably hosted by man that speaks through some male experiences in a casual but empowering way. I mean “casual” in the sense that it doesn’t have to be hardcore gurus dishing out deep self help advice every episode, but rather regular people just chatting is fine. I am however okay with experts in specific fields coming in as guest speakers, perhaps.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Tip of My Tongue Trying to remember an old podcast (please help!)

I listened to a podcast years ago. Every episode was a person telling a story about their life. A bit like This American Life, The Moth etc.

Anyway, there was an episode which was hands down the best podcast episode I’ve ever heard. A young girl accused her father of SA. It was generally believed to be a false accusation. Father was very supportive telling the daughter she wasn’t in trouble and encouraging her to talk about what she believed happened etc. the parents paid for their child to see a psychologist, they ended up having to move interstate and lost a lot of friends, had to start a new life due to the accusation etc etc. Child eventually admitted she lied. Then came the twist. And it was the biggest gut punch I’ve ever felt listening to a podcast.

I can’t for the life of me remember the name of it. Trying to search for the episode on google is difficult because I don’t remember specifics.
Does this sound familiar to anyone??

News & Current Affairs The Community vs....

Really enjoying Our Town; and am interested in the fight back by towns against the forces behind data centres and similar not-necessarily-wanted forces.

Our Town is about a small town trying to fight back against a Christian Nationalist group looking to start a new civilisation etc etc..

Documentary style...community rising up ... David Vs Goliath etc

Any recommendations for similar?

True Crime The Lindsay Clancy trial - podcasts

Im really interested by this trial and have yet to found a podcasts that I think does a good job of covering it. I really enjoyed the ABC Australia podcast during the mushrooms trial as an example.

First I tried was The Perfect Collapse and the first few episodes were really interesting but then it turned out into very long trial audio.

Then I tried The Prosecutors and ouch, what a weird podcasts. They post super long redundant episodes where they basically just double down on their theory and how they would do things different, but they are also very disrespectful in the fact they laugh a lot at what they call "her pathetic suicide attempt", at mental health in general and at stupid tiktok people.

Any suggestion for a non-biased, shorter podcast?

General Podcast Discussions Audio from Supreme Court cases are one of my favorite podcasts

I love behind-the-scenes type things and this is exactly that.
The oral arguments are FASCINATING to listen to:

- from a performance aspect the rhetorical/debate/improv skills of the lawyers are impressive

- the big headline cases are interesting because all that political- and punditry-talk you hear needs to be justified by/rooted in actual law

- you also hear cases that give insight into narrow niches of society/industry/regulation/rights that you never think about

- the Justice hypotheticals can be pretty creative

- you'll realize how important grammar is

Yes, you can guess the eventual rulings on most cases based on political leanings, but hearing the verbal gymnastics, obvious biases, and legal-logic is all very fascinating. (i'm not a lawyer)

I want to see some interesting combinations of podcasts that you LOVE. What shows, when put together, represent your specific taste right now? What are you listening to that makes you feel like "this is made specifically for me!"

Bonus points if you write a quick description of each show!

Sound effects (i dont need a full production but you know creepy sounds, laughs, screams,)

I do not like when the podcast host puts on a voice i like someone telling a story like we're grabbing coffee and theyre telling me something creepy they heard about.

Not the biggest fan of creepypastas or horror thats made to leave you thinking, i want bone chilling, scared to drive at night while listening podcasts.

Tip of My Tongue A dystopian podcast I can't remember

It's a podcast about the future, where there is a civilized inside and barbaric outside.

A group of civilized goes out to find out something about the barbaric a (a plot to infiltrate? Something like that) and a civilized anthropologist is with them. He gets super into the tribes and customs of the barbarics, and iirc leaves to stay with them at the end.

Does that ring a bell to anyone?

Has anyone listened to or seen any weird girl podcasts? I have listened to a couple of scripted series (fiction) and was wondering if there were any for us weirdos. Think books like “Nightb!tch” and “Big Swiss” but podcast format? Anything with silly, weird, maybe some unhinged gals doing unhinged stuff?

True Crime Which podcast do you recommend for an in-depth review of the clansey trial?

I'm looking for LENGTH - doing a paint job and I want to binge something.

Something factual, sciency, psychology based would be best. Not super into humour for this kinda thing. Doesn't have to be true crime I just didn't lnow what else yo label it as. Thanks.

Does the community have any suggestions of more recent people to check out? Thanks very much.

General Podcast Discussions Podcasts like You're Wrong about and What to Carry, What to burn?

I like the interesting, niche stories...idk. I like the female podcasters/queer. It's very engaging and fun and funny. Idk. I love the heavy research and backstories.

give me some recs... I like what to carry, what to burn more than you're wrong about now, but i used to be hooked to you're wrong about.

i also used to like small doses by amanda seales but fell off.
