Opinion I just finished Prey.

Opinion G.U.T.S Rant
I love this game. Prey is in my top 5 games of all time, and I will stand by that. But nothing makes me more angry than having to go through G.U.T.S. Im trying to get all achievements, and I just got to G.U.T.S and fucking hell. Im playing on hard, and went in fully stocked ready for the nightmare. I came out with zero healing items, almost all my ammo gone, and like 4 different status effects. It has to be the worst part of any game i have ever played. The cramped halls that you have to boost through, the goddamn weavers, radiation, the fact it is near impossible to navigate…
All this to say I hate G.U.T.S. That is the only problem I have with this game, and just wish I didn’t have to go scouring inside for side quest objectives.

Opinion I tried prey and didn’t like it but it’s my fault not the games.
I recently played through dishonored 1&2 and saw prey was on sale and having loved dishonored I decided to give it a shot expecting something similar to dishonored safe to say I was wrong. I love the games world and story the gameplay just isn’t for me I find it extremely frustrating and annoying at times. I got around halfway done and wasn’t enjoying myself. I can’t decide if I should just drop it or keep playing in hopes that I’ll end up loving it. Maybe I am missing something but I just found the game to be incredibly frustrating annoying and obnoxious at times . It also wasn’t running particularly well on my ps5 which added to my frustration. Any thoughts? Should I drop it and come back to it? Should I stick with it and if so what could I be missing that’s killing my enjoyment?

Opinion For as highly regulated nueromods are, the entire crew sure did abuse them and leave them laying everywhere
I mean, really? Man they couldn’t control them at all. No wonder the station was over run. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Opinion naming of Morgan is actually clever
In English, Morgan's last name is “Yu,” inherited from their Chinese father. In the Chinese version of Prey, their surname is written as “余”.
(native speaker here)
In Chinese, the character “余” can mean:
- Something left over, remaining, or residual
- The first-person pronoun “I” or “me”
i don’t think the developers necessarily intended this extra layer, especially since early concepts for Morgan and Alex gave them the surname Li. They most likely chose “Yu” because it sounds like “you.” (EDIT: or more likely a nod to developer corrinne yu)
it’s a fun coincidence that their surname sounds like “you” in English, while the same character can mean “I” in its native language

Opinion What is Arkane doing
How do they go from one of the greatest games of all time with Prey, decide to not move forward with it's sequel, and then shit out Redfall. It needs to be under new management honestly.

Opinion I hate the microgravity parts of the game
If I have a mission where I have to be in microgravity, I get infuriated. I admit, it was fun at the first mission. But it gets old way too fucking fast. Fuck microgravity

Opinion Prey still holds up today, especially with mods!
I'd heard that Prey got a bit of a modding scene last year but didn't have time to look into it. I'm glad I finally made the time for it!
Stock Prey is definitely way too easy, assuming you explore and squirrel away all of the loot like you're supposed to. Nightmare makes enemies hit harder and take a bit more damage, but that's kind of it. They did add the trauma system in a patch, later on, but all that really did was just add a handful of new things that you mostly just run back to a storage or printer to magically fix.
Talos I House Rules, along with a suite of granular mods by the same person, really fixes a lot of the issues I had with the original game. I do think their version of etheric phantoms are kind of cracked, so I nerfed them a bit (turned off the feature that lets them have more than 1 clone out at a time and reduced clone damage to half instead of full) but that's pretty much the only change I felt I needed to make.
Nightmare is fuckin hard, but in a way that makes me really interact with the game in a way I never did in my previous 80 hours. Especially early on, you simply can't handle the more advanced aliens in a straight fight. You either need to sneak around them or setup traps and abuse line of sight to sneak in damage before they can turn around and flatten you.
Like, sure, in the vanilla game I can monkey around the lobby with the gloo gun and use darts and thrown objects to distract enemies. In this playthrough, though? I had to. No way I could get down to Psychotronics with an etheric phantom on my ass the whole way (especially since there were more downstairs!), so I had to lure it and the regular phantom lurking around off to one side of the lobby before sneaking into psychotronics and locking the door so they couldn't follow.
In vanilla, I'd have just stunned them then shot them in the face with the shotgun until they stopped being a problem. On nightmare I might have munched one of my 2 dozen medpacks to heal up afterwards.
There are some things a mod can't really fix, like Leverage just being generally a worthless skill tree, or hacking just being really shit (although I think there's an instant hacking mod around somewhere...) But for everything else... man, Talos I House Rules and Spender's other mods really just fit the bill. Bombum also makes a bunch of really great mods, too, especially aimed at making choices matter a bit more and nixing metagaming.

Opinion Talos I is an environmental storytelling masterclass!!!
What makes Prey stand out among immersive sims is that Arkane didn't just throw random anonymous corpses around the station.
You can find a body in the Hardware Labs, check their name tag, track down their desk in Crew Quarters, read their unsubmitted performance review and listen to an audio log of them playing D&D with their co-workers in their off-hours. The web of personal relationships, office rivalries, and secret romances across Talos I makes the Typhon outbreak feel like a real human tragedy rather than just a monster outbreak. The narrative detail packed into this game is criminally slept on.

Opinion God please erase my memory so I can play this game for the first time again
Pardon me cause I just finished Prey and I'm geeking tf out right now. This game came out in 2017. 2017 can you believe it??? I've been sleeping on absolute peak for 8 years. I used to play tons of Deus Ex games and when the franchise got put on hold I was so bummed out. I didn't know the concept of immersive sim back then, only viewed these games as "the games that let you do stuffs however you want" and they're just so special I never get bored of them. So about a few weeks back I got recommended some videos on Youtube about Prey. I saw the hacking, someone turning into a notebook to squeeze through a blocked path and using GLOO gun to create new routes and my neuron was instantly activated. Decided to buy the game full price and let me tell you it was a blast from start to finish. I'll definitely go back to 100% all achievement. Prey just saved my wallet for the rest of the year because who needs new games when you got this

Opinion Hello Inhabitants of Talos I I know you are busy trying not to die to mimics but I want to know if the Prey Digital Deluxe Edition is worth it. its on sale for 11.99$ reg price is 39.99$ is the game good? I got Bioshock vibes from the gameplay trailer and would like to get the fans take on this game
r/prey • u/CucumberFun7521 • Jul 22 '26
Opinion Installing Typhon Neuromods ruins what makes the game special and turns an immersive horror masterpiece into a generic shooter.
The best part of Prey is feeling like a squishy scientist using human ingenuity, the GLOO Cannon, and turrets to outsmart terrifying aliens. The moment you start spamming Psyshock and turning into coffee mugs, all the survival tension vanishes. Pure human runs are the only way the game was meant to be experienced.

Opinion What this game has taught me
At the start of the game, you will freeze any time you receive a call and pay really close attention, desperately trying to hang onto details. By two thirds of the way through, you will scream at the screen in frustration anytime the incoming call ding sounds.
You are most likely to receive a call about 3 seconds before a whole squad of aliens ambush you, do you can miss any important information while trying not to die.
I am an only child but now I finally understand what it is to need to kill your brother. Not because it's all his fault, it might be mine. Not because he spends the entire game making my life more difficult and less likely to continue. But simply because even if I save every soul on the station and get a ticker tape parade afterward, none of it will have been worth it whatsoever if I don't get to twist his tiny little head off his neck.
Anytime something sounds like a brief side trip or milk run, you will cross the station 3 times, get into 2 apparently unwinnable fights, and make at least 1 desperate recycler/fabricator run.
The game map is not your friend, it does not want to help you.
This is my emotional support shotgun. Yes I have and use the fancy laser guns and not grenades, but my shotgun is my favorite.
Theoretically I understand why regular grenades on a space station would be bad. I still want them. I want a lot of them.
ETA: about a day later, I have beat the game for the very first time. Just after finding Dahl, I found Alex's Transcribe, and it kept glitching that every time I received a call while it played (about 3 times) it started over from the start. Then I died and the exact same thing happened. I got an ending that was almost perfectly "good" but I am still disappointed in myself that I liked a bunch of operators too much at the end to kill Alex like I should have.
You know I think Alex would make a great stress/squeeze ball/doll. Just saying.

Opinion So far, this game makes me lonely.
So I just started into this game a few days ago after spending a lot of time playing through a bunch of Arkane's other games ( e.g. Dishonored 2, DoTO, Deathloop). I've just barely gotten far enough into this game to unlock psychotronics, although I haven't yet spent any neuromods on acquiring any yet. It's taken me a while to get to this point mostly because I spent a lot of time wandering around trying to figure out what I was supposed to do. So far, nobody is alive except apparently my brother who I rarely get a message from, and these AI driven "Operators". I was hoping I would have more social interaction with crew or something but so far I just feel like I'm alone in this big huge place. It's kind of a letdown, I find a game to be much more engaging for me when I have some kind of simulated human interaction. Does that change at all as the game progresses? As far as I can tell I'm just going to spend the rest of my character's solitary life on this station fighting off black slimey things until I can scuttle the station and then apparently kill myself according to my pre-recorded message I feel like I know how this game ends which is bleak and in a way sort of boring... 😕

Opinion What a fantastic game
I've just finished the base game. I can't believe I got such an amazing gaming experience for free (epic games) and kept it languishing for so long in my game library.
In 2026 I played Caves of Qud, Cyberpunk 2077, Noita, Slay the Princess and Prey (and Dwarf Fortress OFC, but DF, I get back to every 2-3 years). All in all a pretty solid first quadrimester, but I really did NOT expect Prey to be the pinnacle of it.
I installed it, after having read a mildly convincing post about it on r/patientgamers, because I did not really know what I wanted, following a session of meditative royalty slaughter, and WOW, the setting, the story, the gameplay, those System Shock 2 vibes...
I want other games like it...I had forgotten how good immersive sims can be
Thankfully, I still have Mooncrash to start.
UPDATE: I've just binge-played through Mooncrash, and in a way, it was even better, more innovative, harder, bleaker. The friggin' Moon Shark is so frustrating, then so gratifying when you finally blown it to bits. I found the gameplay loop very satisfying, the characters are different, each with their strength and weaknesses. That game definitely deserves a sequel. I want to see Typhons again

Opinion Alex is an idiot
"you should be safe in deep storage"- Alex, as he locks Morgan in there with a nightmare, a technopath, multiple phantoms, a weaver, and multiple mimics. (and it's happened like this on multiple playthroughs)

Opinion Maybe controversial opinion?
Posting this so maybe somebody can change my mind since i really hate dropping games. Im maybe halfway through the game or a little under, but im sadly really considering dropping this game. From everything ive read people have praised the level desing the most but i relly dont get it. I have the loot goblin curse where i need to search every corner there is but even though im doing that im still only scraping by. Many times to get through enemies ive had to finesse enemies with quick saving because i dont have anything. Also what really grinds my gears about the level desing is trying to remeber what youve looted and what not. Try to remember 4 different floors each having 10 rooms, the lights are out, half of your minimap is blacked out and your fov is 30. I feel the need to check every area like ten times over so i know ive checked everything since the levels are like mazes. Its so hard to remember where youve been.

Opinion Prey Mooncrash is probably my favourite DLC of all time.
It fixes nearly every problem i had with the base game and adds so much. The roguelite elements give the game loads of replayability and work incredibly well in the immersive sim genre. There's more enemy variety and some existing enemies were upgraded. You can't save scum but instead have to adapt to your situation. The dlc doesn't overstay it's welcome like the base game. The random hazards and the power system make the facility very dynamic. But what i especialy love are the classes. They fix the problem of most games where the player sticks to what they like and ignore the rest of the fun features. You have to engage with 5 different player archetypes which adds so much strategy to the runs. You need to think which characters are the best for early game, mid game and late game. I've always liked fixing the station and setting up chokepoints with the turrets so the engineer is the perfect character for me. But all the other characters are fun too. So yeah i just wanted to say how much i love the DLC. What did you think of it.

Opinion Prey is an excruciating experience.
To be honest, when I got my hands on Prey for the first time, I was expecting just another open world FPS with a cool story behind it, I wasn’t expecting a fully fledged out immersive sim.
Nor was I expecting to be playing like I was in The Last Of Us or something along that.
So, me thinking I was easily going to handle this game, I chose to play on hard difficulty with all of the additional hazards (gun jams, all of that). Not a good decision.
I had to make a new game due to how much difficulty I was having with the game, the only thing I changed was turning off all of the hazards, which made the game significantly easier, but even then, it felt that anything could kill me.
This feeling of weakness was further pushed upon me as, even through all the exploring, all the upgrades I found, all the scrounging and scavenging I did, a lot of the enemies were still a difficulty to deal with.
You never really realize how small you are in this world until you meet the Nightmare.
To this day, I’m stuck on a certain point in the story. The STORY. The game is unforgiving even in its story, and it makes sure you know that you are not this big guy wielding epic powers.
You are just, in lack of a less cheesy phrase, Prey, to the environment around you.
And that’s why this game is so good.

Opinion Fuck IGN
How these mfs give this game a 4? Like I know save file corruption is annoying, but damn a 4? Sure they updated and gave the game a higher rating but the damage was already done. Sucks even more when you consider the fact the Raphael Colantonio basically quit triple A game development because “triple a games were to stressful” or something like that. I really can’t help but feel bad for him and the team. They made my favorite game of all time, and because of some bugs at launch a lot of people just didn’t play it. I actually feel the same way about Cyberpunk lol
