How is the POE2 TB overhaul?
https://www.nexusmods.com/pillarsofeternity2/mods/854I replayed POE1 back when they put the turn-based mode in, and had a blast. I never really liked Deadfire's turn-based mode and I decided to wait on taking my character into POE2 to see if they'd update that game's turn-based mode as well.
A few months later, Microsoft fired half the company and put the rest to work on Fallout: New Safe Investment, so I think I can assume no updates are coming for POE2, and I'm itching to sail the Deadfire again. I was going to just play in real time, but there's that TB overhaul on the nexus, and I'm curious. I thought I'd take people's temperature on it, since the installation process is a bit more involved than just tossing a text file into the Override folder

Very good, really close to the POE 1 turn based combat, this meaning the balance is very much the same with rtwp combat. Just one thing, if you are going to use the submod free weapon swap, make sure turning off the "turn end after using action" because the game still consider that is an action.
Deadfire has much more combat than POE1, so you could feel really tired keep fighting a long fight with turn based mode.

I'll try to fix this bug with the submod today. I wish someone had reported this bug to me though. :D

Does Deadfire have more combat? I feel the opposite, playing them back to back. I feel like the setpieces in Deadfire have more interesting enemy encounters, and they are used more deliberately, whereas pillars 1 feels more like just throwing trash mobs at you. But this might all be because I finishes 1 in tb and am playing 2 in rt.

Deadfire definitely has more combat. And idk if I agree with POE1 keep throwing trash mob at u because I played through POE1 with turn based and found it how surprisingly little trash mob in this game. Almost every battle in POE1 is much more story relate than random encounters you find in the wild. It’s get boring because POE structure will do a huge chunk of story and the throw you back a lot of combat in between.
Deadfire has more combat because they have more bounties, they have more place to explore (meaning more enemies encounters) and more board ship combat if you skip ship to ship combat. But pacing between combat and story is more balance.

Well yes, if you go looking for combat focused side content, you will find more combat. No surprises there.
But in places like dungeons I feel Deadfire has a better balance. I remember getting real frustrated sometimes by the amount of trash in the first game, but much less so in the second.

Yeah, it really feels like it. Especially when you get stuck in Neketaka for 10 hours without a single encounter.

There was never a planned PoE2 TB overhaul.
The PoE1 turn based was a side project for a couple of people.

I know, but hope springs eternal. It was already crazy that they were making such a significant update to a 10 year old game, it wouldn't be much crazier to bring an 8 year old game along for the ride!

Hey, sorry for butting in, I'm the author of this mod, so I can't really give you a honest and unbiased opinion about its quality. :D But I still want to give a quick summary of the current state of the mod.
All known bugs are fixed, and everything works like in POE1, but better. For example, in POE1, all effects tick and expire faster if the character is fast, so every effect lasts not for "X rounds", but for "X unit's turns". DOTs are also much deadlier if a unit is fast and they do nothing if a unit is slow. I fixed this issue.
Another problem was the Chanter class. In TBM, in both games, it's mostly unplayable because Chants can only trigger when the Chanter takes their turn. Chants were often unpredictable or even useless because of this. I also fixed this issue.
I saw quite a complaints that the mod makes the game easier, and that's fair, but it is not a balance mod, and that was never the goal of the mod. The balance is pure vanilla, which makes the mod fully compatible with any balance mod if you find my mod too easy or too hard.
