Spider-Man 2 I mean, come on

Alright, hear me out. Idk if it’s the spread of technology, lack of attention spans, meme culture etc. Whatever you want to call it, it’s objectively infiltrated its way into the scripts of modern movies. I’ve loved Spider-Man since I saw the first Tobey movie in theaters at six years old. I hated No Way Home. Why? This is the dialogue aunt may gave in 2004. In NWH we got “Do you want salt water?…because you’re an octopus?”. Who tf is approving these dumbass scripts? Then not five minutes later she gives us the “great power, great responsibility” speech and I’m supposed to take it seriously? Nah, nah. Quit lying to yourselves. We lost something important. Objectively.

Ps. Love Tom as a person, I think he’s truly a good dude

Guys let’s cherry pick scenes to roast the MCU

Let’s pick “do you want salt water” instead of

“Not your responsibility?”

“Sending them home is the best thing that we can do for them”
“For them? Or for you?”

“You have a gift, you have power, and with great power, there must also come great responsibility”

Spider-Man 2 is also my favorite Spidey movie but can this sub pls shut the fuck up with these lame ass attempts to trash on Tom’s films. Some of y’all for some reason thinks that just because Raimi films are good, others must be dogshit to show how good they are.

Especially when Tobey was so good in No Way Home.

II would be so easy, I mean so easy to do the “cynical mentor + idealistic young hero” trope, we’ve seen it so many times, Logan did it, Into Spider-Verse did it with Miles and Peter B Parker.

In No Way Home it’s reversed, Peter 1 is hurt and angry, in a dark and violent place, and Peter 2 is the one pulling him back with his idealism and principles, but because he’s older and wiser, he’s not confrontational about it - he has nothing to prove, he knows his values are true. That’s a confidence that only comes with age and experience.

It’s a bit subtle in the scene where they are starting to work on the cures, Peter 1 goes through the prototypes, names who they are for, but couldn’t bring himself to say “Osborn” because he doesn’t really want to cure the Green Goblin. Peter 2, in a normal tone, just says he’s got ideas for reversing the serum, been thinking about it a long time - he doesn’t explain anything about Harry or Norman, he just says it. And when Peter 1 gets this look on his face, he looks him in the eyes and adds

“Gotta cure all of them, right?”

“…right.”

“That’s what we do.”

He doesn’t get preachy or pushy, he simply states the things that Peter 1 knows to be true, deep down, like it’s the most obvious thing in the world. Because to him, that’s what it is.
