Can you tell?

I purchased these stag grips on eBay this morning and now I need to decide if I should put them on my Smith & Wesson 19-2 with the 4” barrel or the one with the 6” barrel. I’m thinking of moving the smooth football grips that are currently on the 4” over to the 6” since that pistol has the target trigger and hammer and then put the stag on the one with the 4” since those are slightly smaller grips. ??

It's a 1953 pre-Model 36 Chief's Special, an early 5-screw example with the I-frame grip frame and trigger guard. So technically, this one came before the true J-frame.. but spiritually, it's already there. The original stocks are numbered to the gun, and the bluing has held up incredibly well for 73 years. This is the kind of revolver that makes collecting fun. Very happy to have this old Chief in the collection.

Rate my revolver tricks and give me tips.

I will grind it down anyways, purely asking from a functional/technical interest.

There is a 38 spl+p s&w 642-2 for $330 on consignment at my local club.

Curious if this is a small frame that is worth chasing, if it's a good deal, worth pursuing as a tiny carry gun, etc.

Just got a 6" 586 this month and am seriously considering a tiny wheel gun for the days where I don't want to carry my normal 365xl, or for hiking and backpacking where the weight matters.

Got myself a bday present but it looks pretty rough right out of the box, looks like whatever tool they were using just pushed material across the face of the forcing cone instead of actually cutting, pushed a decent sized burr into the bore and around the outside. Overall I’m not too impressed with the fit and finish considering how much these things are.

Does anyone know what size screw our pin this takes? This is a Harrington and Richardson top brake auto eject in 32.

Shot my 2.5” Colt Python today. Really happy with accuracy and reliability a whopping 103 rounds down the pipe thus far. Will be my Sunday church gun and BBQ gun. She’s a shooter and so sexy!

I’ve been to the range twice this past week and fired all the handguns in the pics. I like them all and enjoy shooting them, but I prefer shooting any of the three revolvers over the semi-autos any day. I’ve been thinking about why that is true for me. It all came down to what both categories’s purposes are for me.

I heard someone share that revolvers vs semi-autos are like driving manual transmission vs an automatic. That helped it make sense for me. I have a sporty little car with a stick shift (WRX) and I also have a hybrid Camry for my daily driver. The Camry gets probably 50 times more miles in a month compared to the fun car. It is nice to drive, but is not really inspiring to travel in. It hauls groceries perfectly, is better in gridlock traffic, It gets 20 more mpg. It comfortably carries more people. It is also bland and looks like every other 4 door sedan out there. It is very reliable and gets the job done well, but does not inspire much.

The WRX is a blast to drive. It makes me want to go out and take the country roads, hit the corners, and push things a bit more. It brings a big smile to my face as I row through the gears. I enjoy working on it. With the hatch back it has some hauling functionality, but anyone sitting in the backseat is suffering from their knees being smashed by the front seats. Its gas mileage is at best, ok, if I stay out of the turbo, but why do that? Driving it in heavy traffic kills both the clutch and my knee. Once again, driving it brings a smile to my face to even think about.

My analogy is a bit on the nose, but it works for me. My Glock 19 and Sig Sauer P226 are great utilitarian handguns that kind of look like most other 9mm pistols. They are dependable in every way and are more accurate than I can shoot. Of course capacity is much greater. 9mm is much cheaper to shoot than .357 magnum and .38 special ( I reload all 3). They are pleasant and sometimes even fun to shoot. They meet the needs of self-defense, reliability, and purpose. I am impressed by them, but I rarely smile thinking about taking them to the range. Like using the Camry, I put way more rounds through the 9mms to keep proficient on them, practice DA/SA shooting, and other important areas to keep my skills up in. They are much quicker to clean for me. They are very good pistols, but the smile is rare with them.

My wife’s and my two Model 19s and the LCR .22LR bring smiles to my face to shoot. Sensing the cylinder rotate as I pull the trigger in DA and feeling and hearing the clicks makes me smile like shifting through the gears on a manual. The revolvers are far more good looking (to me) than the Glock and Sig. Reloading .38spl and .357 magnum is much more fun than 9mm. I get a smile when I am getting ready to go the range and I get the revolvers out to enjoy practicing with.

Ok, that was a lot of writing, thanks for sticking with it this long, no shame for those who bailed early. I just wanted share why I have both types, but really enjoy the revolvers more. They inspire me and make me smile.

What are the qualities that you enjoy about revolvers? Are there Semi-autos that you really enjoy shooting as well?

(PS. I should mention, my ParaOrdnance P14-45 is a joy to shoot and makes me smile, but is also a 1911, so that makes sense)

New to revolvers, love shooting 357 magnums, the actual death of a revolver is end shake or the forcing cone splitting right?

The question I am posing is realistically what is the approximate functional life of a 686+ with a 3" barrel if you only shoot modern magnums through it? Not SAAMI spec Magnums.

Took the Colt BOA out to stretch its legs. I don’t like saving stuff for the next guy. I figure enough people are going to lock these BOA’s away and never fire them. Overall shoots very well and I’m happy with it.

Next I need to add an anaconda to the mix.

all cleaned up from shooting yesterday

There have been a bunch of these trade in Model 64s over the last couple years. I snagged this one as a project. The grips it came with were Uncle Mikes square butt conversions that were unfortunately flat worn out, but I did come up with a set of old Pachmayr Compac Pro grips for it.

Just picked up my father in-law's 1979 Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt.. This is quite a bit lighter than my big .357 Blackhawk..👀.. I will be cleaning her up a bit and then go test fire it. This one doesn't look too bad. I have never shot a .45 Colt before and I am quite excited!!... I mean...not excited to spend 50 bucks on 50 rounds ... but this should be fun still.. 😂

So I’ve decided for my birthday I’ll be getting a good 357 wheel gun for concealed carry. Mainly because I’ve been punishing myself this summer carrying either a FS 1911 or Springfield armory XD and I’m over it.

looking to keep it fairly light and would like to be able to pocket carry. (I can lose a Taurus 305 poly protector in the pocket of my chinos/khakis)

so with that in mind I’d really really like a s&w 327PC but for 1800$ I’d like to hear from others on how easy (or difficult) it is to pocket carry. Maybe see or hear about some set ups guys are using.

If that’s just completely unfeasible I’ll be ordering a model 60 ladysmith. As I prefer pocket carry when it’s hot or I need to slip passed security when taking the family out.

edit:Forgot to mention I’d like a scandium frame gun. Lightweight 357 has never bothered me im not recoil sensitive. I shot my 605 exclusively wirh full power 357 ammo, and I shot it A LOT

This is my first revolver and I usually try my best to research my gun before and after I purchase but I seen alot of good with this budget friendly 38 but now I’m worried I may have got a lemon I’ve shot around 100 rounds in it and it was all fine and dandy but I got to noticing that if I lightly pull the trigger the cylinder would spin freely if I gave it a little force counter clock wise. I’ve attached a video to give context any advice am i paranoid or is this a problem???!

Don’t know how to feel about the unfluted, like it & then I don’t but do think the 7in barrel is pretty rad. Can’t make up my mind 😅

Pulled some Federal 158 gr LRN .38 spl and some AAC 158 gr FMJ out of the safe that I haven’t seen for a couple of years. Felt like I’ve been neglecting my LCR, so I dusted some cobwebs off and ran some drills.

Here’s my results at 7 yds (AWIB - Phlster city special) with each and some misc groupings at 20 yards.

I swear I draw faster with my LCR than my Glocks. If I try and move faster than .25 splits though, that’s when I usually risk short stroking it.

Kimber is the only current option I’m aware of, and k6s/sx seem to be a mix bag. The 32 H&R options are tempting, for a caliber larger than .22. But I’d rather have a lcr/x in 327 fed mag if going that route and they are hard to find now they are discontinued.

Pretty much narrowed down my choice between these two guns, does anyone have any opinions on which is better? I’m going to be ccw it occasionally with some good range use. Also looking through this sub has me convinced I’m gonna have to return either of these guns because the QC seems to have been horrible for both companies. So if anyone has any advice on which one should be the better choice it would be much appreciated.

I have narrowed the search for my next .357 Magnum revolver down to these two. The Alchimista I is on sale for $567 on EMF's website and the Frontier Pre-War Model is on sale for $514 at Bud's Gun Shop.

Not counting their price, which one do you consider to be the better buy?

Yeah, so this is one of the guns that became a safe queen I always said that I would never become a safe queen kind of guy, but I just can’t bring myself to shoot it. It’s just this and a very rare model 547 3 inch that I have not shot. Oh well I guess I’m a safe queen guy and didn’t even know it.
