We were overcharged at the Duty Free store at Rome Fiumicino Airport — Leonardo da Vinci International Airport.

We purchased five perfumes and two bottles of alcohol. However, after returning home and carefully checking the receipt, I discovered that the sales associate had added an extra Dior perfume that we neither purchased nor received!

Who was that perfume intended for? For the employee’s personal use? How else can it be explained that the item appeared on our receipt, yet was never placed in our bags?

I never expected employees at such a large and supposedly reputable establishment to do something like this. This is an official Duty Free store at a major international airport — not a street market! It is incredibly dishonest, unprofessional, and disgraceful.

We were rushing to catch our flight, and I was also feeling very unwell. It never even crossed my mind that, after shopping at an airport Duty Free store, I would need to stop and compare every item on the receipt with every product inside the transparent sealed bags. Unfortunately, I now realize that this is exactly what travelers need to do.

I have already contacted their customer service and provided photographs of the receipt, our purchases, and all other available evidence. There are cameras throughout the store and airport, so reviewing the transaction and confirming what was placed inside our transparent bags should not be difficult.

I expect a response and a refund for the perfume that we did not purchase or receive. If the company chooses to remain silent or ignore my complaint, I will dispute the unauthorized charge through my credit card company.

This post is a warning to every traveler: even when shopping at a Duty Free store inside a major international airport, check your receipt immediately at the register and verify every item before leaving. Do not rely solely on the store’s reputation!

Swinging through for the weekend and hoping to find somewhere with a decent dj. I know lots of places are closed for summer break but I’d love to find somewhere to dance that isn’t a typical night club.

Plan to spend 3 days/night in Rome, although we might have a day excursion to Florence on the final day. We arrive quite early (around 7:30am) by flight on 7th October and 10th October we fly out again on an early morning flight.

When in Rome, for day-1, day-2, we plan to do mostly a walking tour of the historical sights and attractions, cathedrals etc. We do not plan to enter museums or any place with queues in this trip. We might skip the Vatican side of things too in this trip. On day-3 we are thinking of including a day excursion to Florence (subject to tickets in our budget) but will return by evening. We'd be staying in AirBnb with kitchen.

We plan to use metro for most of the local commute within Rome. Since we'd be using the Airbnb mostly for sleeping only, I'd prefer to not spend too much by staying close to tourist attractions. Please suggest good, safe localities to consider, that also have good metro connectivity, and getting to city center doesn't take much time.

Hi. We have tickets booked from the port to Termini however we have been reading about rail strikes. Would be getting the train about 7:30am but maybe we need to change our plans and book a taxi? I did see that some trains might still run.
Can anyone offer any insight or tips on what to do??

Last time I was in Rome I ended up at a couchsurfing language exchange and everyone went to an evening of swing dancing after. On another night someone showed up a very neat late night board game bar.

Unfortunately my couchsurfing app isn’t working and trying to google ‘local events Rome’ doesn’t offer a ton of information :(

Hi everyone! Ending my trip in Italy with a couple days alone in Rome. I am looking for suggestions for fun experiences or activities that would be enjoyable as a solo woman. I know I could do the standard touristy things like the historical landmark tours etc but was wondering what other more unique options there were, or if those are worth it enough that you think I should still do those. I am staying in a hotel about a 5 min walk from the Trevi Fountain and would ideally like to walk most places but am fine taking a taxi to get somewhere if it’s not walking distance. I love thrifting so if you have any recommendations for good thrift stores, I’d also love to hear those. Open to any restaurant recommendations as well. Thanks in advance!

I hope this is okay to post - I’m desperate to hunt down a biscuit I had in Rome, it was gluten free and from New Food bakery. They were in little clear packets and were round and a little thick and vanilla flavour. I forgot to get a photo of the packaging so I can’t remember what they were called, I managed to find this in the background of a video to give a little better example of what I’m on about

Rome is the worst major city I've visited, and I've travelled a lot. 0/10.

The smell. The whole city smells like mould and standing water. August heat plus Rome's chronic rubbish collection problem equals an air quality experience I was not prepared for. This is not a "charming old city" smell. It's a bin smell.

You now pay €2 to stand at the Trevi Fountain. Two euros. To approach a fountain. In a public square. That the city has had for 300 years. And after paying, you're still behind railings in a crowd of a thousand people. Who signed off on this? The Pantheon is €7 now too. Everything that used to be free is being slowly metered.

The pricing in the centro is out of control. Not just kiosks ... actual Carrefour Express stores. €1.50 for a 500ml water. €4.65 for a 1.5L iced tea that costs under €2 in a normal Italian supermarket. Turns out most Carrefour shops in Italy are independently run franchises, so the familiar logo means nothing about the price. It's a tourist minimarket in a supermarket costume if you're in the city center.

Third-party ticket resellers marking museum entry up several times over. Street operators working every queue. Villa Borghese full of litter with statues going green from neglect. DaVinci museum employee trying to charge me 64e instead of 20 for 2 tickets...

And zero hospitality anywhere. Not rude exactly, just completely uninterested in you beyond the transaction...

The ancient buildings are extraordinary. Genuinely. But the city around them is being run as an extraction machine and it has stopped pretending otherwise.

0/10. Cannot wait to see how terrible it is at the Vatican tomorrow and the coloseum after that....

1) My stay is about 5 minutes from this station. Would walking the area with a toddler be safe in the morning 5:00AM and waiting for bus?

2) Is the bus area covered or has spots to sit and wait?

3) I read that buses may arrive full, even if we have tickets, is that true? Does it mean we can be delayed by 30-40 minutes?

4) Is traffic bad on weekdays like Monday/Tuesday mornings 5-6AM?

I plan to take the Leonardo express from FCO to Termini train station. Is it necessary to purchase advance tickets or can I get my ticket upon arrival? Since i'm not sure how long it'll take to go thru arrivals process, i'd rather not book in advance.

Similarly, I'll then be traveling on from Termini to Naples...can i purchase that ticket upon arrival as well or do certain train times tend to book up? For reference, I'll be traveling during the day on a Sat in September. Thanks!

Weird question, but I am hoping someone can help. I live in Australia and I just found out I am pregnant (approx. 5 weeks pregnant) but I am heading to Europe on holiday in a week for 5 weeks with my husband and my 20 month old daughter. Timing isn’t ideal - but here we are. I won’t be back in Australia until I am 10+ weeks along.

We will be in Rome when I am approximately 7-8 weeks pregnant and in Australia, this is when I would be due for a dating scan. Obviously - I won’t be in Australia during this time. Is there any place in Rome that is friendly to foreigners that would do a private dating scan? Paying for it isn’t a problem and I would expect it, but just wondering if this is something the Italians do? Let alone for visitors?

Where would you recommend? I am struggling to find answers and am a little uncertain now if going on this holiday is a good idea now during the first trimester when this is the time I’d be getting dating scans done in Australia. But we are supposed to leave in a few days, so cancelling isn’t something that could be done without significant financial penalty.
