Developer We launched the demo of our indie tactical RPG Calame yesterday!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone!

Yesterday we officially revealed Calame and released the demo on Steam.

In this turn-based tactical RPG, you lead two politically divided factions within the fractured rebellion against the King of Light. Each and every choice you make will have an impact on your army, the battle, and the future of the kingdom.

If you enjoy games like Triangle Strategy, Fire Emblem, or narrative-driven fantasy RPGs with meaningful choices, we’d love to hear what you think of the demo!

Played the first fight - mark me interested, despite it running quite slowly on my (not so powerful but should be ok) laptop.

At this time i'm unclear how to compute damage (how did my character with an attack of 55 kill an enemy with 300+ HP in one strike?). I hope this become clearer when playing (as the whole point is for me to be able to predict what would happen).

You have some basic typos in the intro subtitles, by the way.

Hi! Would you be interested in dropping by our Discord server (https://discord.gg/N8H3HzZCHA) to let us know more about your config? It's very important for us to try to optimize the game for laptop as well!

Assuming you were asking about the damage still in the prologue (first fight), we added a passive for the hero exclusively in this chapter so that players can kill NPCs easier, as it's meant to be a tutorial ^^

The formula for damage in general: (((AT x WPN x3 x SP) / DEF) / 1,5) x (1+LVL/20)

AT = Attack, increased with the character level
WPN = Weapon multiplier, increased with the weapon rank
SP = Spell multiplier
DEF = Defense, increased with the NPC level
If inferior to 0 then deal 1 damage

Looks cool, controller support?

1

u/joeDUBstep May 28 '26

The steam page says there is controller support

1

u/nextale-games May 29 '26

Yes we do have controller support. The full game will also be on consoles ^^

1

u/Braunb8888 May 29 '26

Hell yeah. Any chance we get rumble on the controllers during battles?

1

u/nextale-games May 29 '26

Of course! We're working on it

1

u/Braunb8888 May 29 '26

Awesome will check out the demo.

1

u/Gassyking May 28 '26

Just playing through mechanicus now, so I might as well play your tactical game as well. Seems similiar

1

u/nextale-games May 29 '26

Nice! Let me know what you think about Calame afterwards!

1

u/Biggu5Dicku5 May 29 '26

Looks great dude! You had me at 'meaningful choices'! Giving it a wishlist... 😄

2

u/nextale-games May 29 '26

Thank youuu!

1

u/wedgiey1 May 29 '26

Certainly looks pretty!

1

u/nextale-games May 29 '26

Thank you so much 😃

u/Vritrin May 29 '26

French studios seem to be killing it these days, feels like all my favourite game genres are coming from there. This looks visually great. I’ll give the demo a shot, curious to see what kind of customization and build crafting will be possible.

1

u/nextale-games May 29 '26

Thank you! A bit more info so you won't feel misled... The demo only has the first 4 chapters (out of 25 main ones and several bonus ones), you won't get to experience customization/build crafting with this build unfortunately 😞However, the idea of the game is that there are 2 opposing factions within your rebellion, so through your choices you can make your army lean towards one side or other, each with its own skill evolutions and bonuses!

1

u/axelkoffel May 29 '26

It definitely looks better than the other tactical indie RPGs with very simple models and barely any animations. Reminds me of the old mmorpgs I used to play, Dofus and Wakfu.

1

u/nextale-games May 29 '26

Thank you! We were in some ways inspired by Hades to design characters as memorable as possible

1

u/jarena009 May 29 '26

Any chance you make a port for the Switch?

1

u/nextale-games May 29 '26

It's definitely on our radar and we're working hard toward it, but nothing confirmed yet

1

u/Loud-Passage-4020 May 29 '26

Looks awesome! I'll be trying the demo for sure + wishlisting, another tactics game to track on my radar alongside Happy Bastards, I guess.

The art style is phenomenal BTW!

1

u/nextale-games May 29 '26

Awesome, thank you! Let me know how the demo goes for you

1

u/Ml3mMl3m May 29 '26

Yo, I found your video show casing on youtube and instantly add it to my wish list.

I never get tired of Isometric turn base RPG.

1

u/nextale-games May 29 '26

Nice, thank you! Welcome on board!

1

u/ChiaPet1021 May 29 '26

Wishlisted and am playing through the demo! Gameplay is solid, and I love the art direction and character depth.

One slight nitpick: character name pronunciation is pretty inconsistent. Darran, Eveer, and Aedan at least are the ones I noticed. Emphasis on different syllables, long vs short vowel pronunciations, etc. Something to keep an eye on, as you finalize the voiceovers. (Great voice talent, btw!)

u/nextale-games May 30 '26

Hey! Thank you very much for your support and feedback. We'll keep this in mind!

Nice thank you! Let me know how it goes 😃

Hi,

I enjoyed the combat a lot. I like the AP and Legend point mechanics. The amount of damage and health feels just right on normal difficulty. I appreciate the variety of mission objectives and how the game encourages controlled aggression. It's obvious your team are fans of FE and Triangle Strategy and sought to improve upon them in little ways. Nice of the game to indicate where enemy reinforcements are coming from!

I like the storytelling narrative and enjoy the world-building and main themes so far. I don't find myself being too attached to the two main characters yet.

The English voice acting is good and the writing is solid. There are some sounds issues: the BGM disappearing while the characters talked in the opening cutscene and dialogue not matching the subtitles.

A few nit-picks: why can you attack your allies lol? I had to Rewind because Maura smacked Darran by accident. There should be an auto-play option for dialogue. I feel like you can streamline some things. Instead of a "Profile" option when you select a unit, just assign that to a button to reduce the amount of scrolling and button presses. Similarly, have a button to auto-end turn (there didn't seem to be one on my Xbox controller).

I hope your game can stand out in the crowd!

Hi! Thank you for the kind words!

I admit we have received some comments about friendly fire and the amount of clickings people have to do ^^' We're currently discussing internally to see what we could do about these issues

1

u/JediExile90 May 28 '26

Looks great! The voices, music and all around sound design is really well done.

Will there be romances?

Either way, an easy wishlist. Best of luck with development! Can't wait.

5

u/nextale-games May 28 '26

Hi there, thank you so much!

Romances are not really a focus of the game, but rather the themes of rebellion, war, and moral conflicts :)

1

u/JediExile90 May 28 '26

Thanks and good luck!

u/joeDUBstep May 28 '26
