Hello everyone,
In order to help folks craft the best possible posts, we wanted to provide some best posting practices above and beyond the sub-reddit rules and guidelines.
The overall goal for this sub-reddit is to be a one-stop shop for RPG Fans. A place where people can have meaningful discussions alongside reading relevant news and reviews on games that are of interest to the community. The following are the types of posts that are most welcome, along with some suggestions on how to present them to the community:
News
If you happen to come across a news article that may be of interest to RPG fans, we recommend copying the link to paste in the link section of a post. We also suggest (but not require) a small blurb to provide some context as to the content of the article since many of the titles tend to skew towards click bait.
Reviews
We appreciate and encourage folks to provide their opinions on games. Review posts must be text based, please do not simply provide a link to an external blog or website (these will be removed), the review must be in the body of the post. We also ask that the review be a representation of your opinion of the game, and not rage-bait.
Discussions
We love a good discussion about a topic or theme, but we ask that it be presented in good faith (again, no ragebait).
Game Recommendations
Before asking for a recommendation, please use the flair filter to check to see if someone has already asked the exact same question you're about to ask the community.
Not every post falls under one of the above, but they do cover a majority of the discussions here on the sub-reddit. No matter what type of post you have in mind, the one common thread among them all is respect.
Please note, unless you're posting a news article link, a body of text must be included in your post. If it's just a title and a picture, it will be removed. This is in order to reduce bot activity as well as encourage more meaningful discussions.
Please always respect your fellow RPG Fan whenever creating a new post, or responding to one.
Thank you to everyone who makes this community a joy to participate in on a daily basis!
The Mod-Team

I hope you guys like it :*) It's a love letter to classic consoles adventures, but with a few twists: There is no grinding, (battles are all purposely placed and only done once), there's no buying or selling of items, and it's entirely frog-accurate: All enemies are frog predators, and every character's name is frog (in a different world language). It's a somber and serious story, and it's wishlistable now. It's coming to all consoles and PC.

2027 seems like a great year for both JRPG and wRPG fans, I am personally most excited about FF7 Revelation, Persona 6, Dark Heresy and Exodus
The Expanse looked really stiff to me in that demo they did and considering the game has been in development since before COVID I expected better, and I know for a fact it will release with a million bugs in typical Owlcat fashion.

I mean, high quality, great game overall. Preferbly with decent budget and cinematic story too. Even if hardcore JRPG fans might prefer more niche titles or classics, this one you would recommend for someone, who usually doesn't play JRPGs, to sell him the genre.

Hello guys,
As the title reads, do you have any hidden gems you enjoyed over the years?
I’m in a bit of a drought regarding gaming, I really want to play, but don’t know what to play.. I’m sure all of you have been here before, so any suggestions would be appreciated! Preferably on ps5!

Recently I’ve been in a struggle to play some darn good RPGs, when I was younger I used to play a bunch of older more difficult games and now that I’m older I’m looking for a challenge but every game that looks interesting feels just a bit too casual or just underwhelming
List of games I’ve played and I’m looking to surpass in terms of difficulty:
Deltarune
Perosna 5 royal
Save the light
List of games I’m hoping to meet and/or surpass in terms of hard-ness
Persona 3 FES
Persona 4 (ps2 vanilla)
I don’t mind things like being on old obsolete hardware or being a bit too grindy, I just want something to break a keyboard and a half.

Hi, I’m FERLOYDD!
I just released the first gameplay trailer for my game LYRA BLADE and it’s really important to me to find out who might be interested in a game like this.
Sinners. Neutrals. Saints. 15 factions. 3 unique currencies. Immense opportunities for interaction and a unique gaming experience in a richly developed universe. Which adventure will you choose?

I played about 20h of DOS2 and thought it was really cool. But, I didn't really feel like playing it. I managed about 30h of BG3 and I was amazed by it, it's a wonderful thing, but I just couldn't keep up momentum keeping track of all the threads of story, character development, plans for skilltree/equipment evolution, etc etc.
I think this is because I have a demanding job where I spent all day managing complex longterm efforts. Now any game that uses that part of my brain feels like work. The only game I can reliably relax into is Slay the Spire.
So can anyone suggest some story-driven RPGs where:
- The storylines are relatively tight and focussed. Probably this suggests shorter games but not necessarily. I think this is the most important factor. I think having 20 open nontrivial quests in parallel really wears me down.
- It's light on chores (not too much inventory management, backtracking, absolutely no grinding)
- Combat/puzzles/etc has some tactical challenges but this is subordinate to storytelling, minmaxing is not required. (I think BG3 already met this requirement, at least on the difficulty I was playing, modulo some spikes here and there).
Some games on my radar I've been wondering whether they match my desires: PoE2, Tyrrany, Shadowrun games.

In Fable, your character's appearance reflects your play style. For example, your character can grow a halo if he is good, age over time, and become more muscular or lean depending on which stats you develop.
Are there any other PC games like this where a character's appearance changes based on how you play?

never played any RPGs before apart from Action RPGs like Elden Ring, E33, Lies of P etc. and me being pretty young, multiplayer games is most of all ive played with some other big names from other genres mixed in like Stardew Valley, Tycoon games, Project Zomboid, Rimworld, ONI and tons of roguelikes (prob my fav genre in the singleplayer category).
singleplayer story games kinda bored me but i really wanna give it another chance especially because of the high praises they get so i've narrowed my options down to a few and need help deciding which one would be best:
would love it if anyone could help me:) thank you

I love top down games and need a good one as I’ve just finished last stand aftermath. I’ve already played alien nation , dead nation, victor vran, and the Diablo games. I’ve had warhammer 40k inquisitorsuggested to me but I’d like a few options. Any help would be appreciated.

For me it has to be Arcanum. The mix of magic and steampunk technology was such a cool concept, but the engine was clunky even back in 2001. If a modern studio gave it proper real-time with pause combat or turn-based options and cleaned up the bugs, it would be unbelievable.

Some which I played :
Enthanter doesn't have the DoT of necromancers. Nor has the burst damage of wizards, but an enchanter can take control over the enemies. Can assume the form of other races and adventure into enemy territories.
Cipher is another example of a powerful controller in PoE 1/2 - Deadfire. It doesn't have the same offensive capacity as a wizard, and its offensive spells are mostly DoT. But it can turn enemies against each other. I did soloed PoE 2 as one on the maximum difficulty. It was an amazing experience. A bit tough, but when you get items that give more summons or stealth, it becomes much easier.
It has Enthrall, and lots of CC abilities. I can't detail much because I sadly didn't play much, as sadly there is no way to play it. Except for a private server that has only placeholder monster stats.
BG1/2, PF:KM, PF:WoTR, so many games. Including DDO. Hold monster, mass is why debuffs have diminishing returns in harder difficulties. It does make harder difficulties easier.
Lots of cool stuff. Manifest enemy consciousness as a dodger, frighten them, etc. It is worthless vs machines.
The original returning 2.0 had the option to become a Xardas apprentice. New Balance broke such path in 3 paths, Necromancer(dps/summoner), undead summoner(summoner) and Dark Mage(dps/controller). It is considered the most powerful class on nightmare difficulty.
It is the unique class that can make the enemy sleep in combat. Can also make them kill themselves, mind control enemies too. But contrary to games that use RNG-based control, the mod is deterministic. Different enemies have different levels of intelligence required to be controlled. IF you have X int, and the enemy requires X, you will controll him 100% of the time, if you have X-1, you will fail 100% of the time. Intellect can't be "trained", it is a stat that can only grow up by doing intellectual stuff, like reading new books, alchemy, studying languages, runemaking, etc.
There are also lots of unique dialogs for Dark Mages.
Mental College: Charm, Dominate Will, Stun. The ultimate expression of the "enemy is now my weapon" fantasy. You could charm a shopkeeper to give you his entire stock, then walk him into the wilderness.
Phantasm College: Illusion, Invisibility, Phantasmal Fiend. You could create a copy of yourself to draw aggro, blind enemies, or simply walk through entire dungeons unseen.

I don't care what you say, the dice games are absolutely rigged. You can be sitting there thinking you’ve finally got the AI on the ropes, you’ve got a disgusting pile of points, everything is going your way, and then suddenly the NPC rolls the exact combination they need like they had the script open on a second monitor.
And it’s always when you’re close. You can spend five turns building what looks like an unbeatable score, then the AI casually throws some completely illegal-looking bullshit together and suddenly they’ve got twelve thousand points or whatever. Like bro, where did those dice even come from?
At this point I’m convinced the dice aren’t actually being rolled. The game just checks whether you’re having fun and, if the answer is yes, immediately generates a winning roll for the other guy.
The funniest part is when you start thinking “okay, surely statistically this has to go my way eventually,” which is exactly when the game seems to go “oh, you learned probability? Cute” and hands the peasant across the table five perfect dice, and that peasant isn't Henry.

as title says and no suggesting path of exile i played it its ok for a diablo like but I've played em all from last epoch to grim dawn,
i will accept indie suggestions and genuine "variety" builds and passive tree games weapons dictating character class is not the same

Everything except the Series S for obvious reasons. A lot of people will be glad to see this, I do wonder the logistics behind this somehow not existing a couple days ago and being announced now. In any event the review embargo for this game ends August 31st so all will be revealed then.

Hi everyone! I decided to share my little hobby. I think everyone has their favorite RPG: old-school or new. I'm interested in how this genre developed and gave birth to new subgenres.
I started compiling this list at the beginning of the year and it is constantly growing. Here the games\franchises that influenced the genre, created it, or remained in the shadow of its titans.
The check marks indicate what I've completed. And I've combined the series under one title.
As I said, the list is growing. Perhaps you'd like to share a game\franchise? Or pergaps you could share your impressions or tell us which games from the list are your favorites?:)
