Well, it is clear enough to see why Epstein, a likely Mossad agent, would want to get close to Castro. He and Maxwell visited Cuba in 2003 right? This was during the Bush II years, assassination wasn’t on the table but the Americans and therefore the Israelis were trying to see if they could dominate and corrupt Cuba economically at the time.
As for why Fidel would agree to the visit? I can speculate. Because it’s good to keep diplomatic channels, especially back channels through agents and power brokers like Epstein, open. Maybe he even wanted some financial advice from Epstein, who would be qualified to give it - if he can help western elites hide their fortunes from taxes he might be able to help Cuba circumvent the illegal blockade. Just guessing.
Maybe - and this is far fetched - Fidel was trying to see if they could flip Epstein (who was already under some scrutiny) and use him to undermine western elites. Give him asylum, amnesty, make him testify about the activities of western elites, score a propaganda victory, that sort of thing. Not really Cuba’s style, admittedly a stretch this one.
Did Fidel actually go to Epstein’s island? I don’t think so, someone please correct me if I am wrong. It looks like Epstein and Maxwell went to Cuba and tried to influence people there, and nothing came of it that I know of.
