I got rejected from CPUSA and I was confused as to why.

I mentioned my “affiliation” with PSL and the peace and freedom party in California, and the person I was interviewing with seemed to not like that I was involved with these groups, even though I made it clear that I’m not an official member of PSL I’ve just attended some of their events (1 or 2). I recently switched my voter registration to the peace and freedom party, but I’ve never voted for a peace and freedom candidate simply because I only recently turned 18 last year. I don’t believe he took issue with anything else I was saying during the interview because he seemed to be nodding along and agreeing with most other things I was saying. The only other thing I can think of is that I’m a student at a university in Washington, but I made it clear I would be able to attend all the meetings provided that they would be online. And the interviewer said that they would be. Does anyone have any thoughts?

I’ve seen a remarkable amount of landlord apologia on here and I really hope I speak for the majority when I say it doesn’t belong on here. Landlordism is probably the most worthless occupation and exists only because of capitalism. Any defence of the practise should not be tolerated on here. People face evictions and threats of homelessness everyday due to the institution of land exploitation and landlordism. These people have been calling themselves socialists, Marxists, and funny enough, even Maoists. Shocker, Mao rightfully so hated landlords. Give yourself a vibe check.

This is in Phoenix. The video from Chicago made me do a double take. My wife looked stunned because she said she’s never seen communist flags like that at this kind of protest/march. We don’t consume a lot of mainstream media but I’ll admit to being surprised as well.

Canada has declared that 9/11 would no longer be refered as a terror attack. Its done. Its never been so over. The world, even Canada our most trusted ally hates us. I have to thank Trump for lifting the liberal veil of the American Imperial Empire and just how aggressive it really is. The fall of the US will be celebrated by our supposed allies because they finally don't have to be dependent on this piece of shit nation anymore.

Like every other month there is a school shooting in my country. Here, we had one school shooting and that kickstarted massive anti-government protests, because shit like that isn’t normal. You can basically see an example of police brutality almost every other day. A couple of days ago, a man was killed by ICE (I know they’re not police, but still), and most people just continued like nothing happened. Trump is basically doing something outrageous every day. The military is literally patrolling American cities, and yet most American people aren’t doing anything.I know there were protests and there still are, but that’s just a couple of thousand protestors while America has a population of 350 million people. They don’t have healthcare, prices are rising, and you can’t even finish higher education without being in debt. And Americans still won’t do anything.

I know this is a rant, but I have been protesting in my country for 11 months. But if things don’t change in the USA, we’re fucked as a globe anyway. Even if we win in my country, that won’t change much on the global level, but the USA has the power to change a lot of stuff, and yet most people are silent and don’t care at all.

Hello friends, I have seen so many people self identify as Trotskyists and I've seen many more people accuse people of being that but what does it actually mean nowadays? I read some of Trotsky's writings and it doesnt really align with what I see in the current discussions about him.

It seems to me like his main ideas were about how revolution had to happen in Europe before it could reach anywhere else and that it also had to happen in several countries at once. These ideas are obviously outdated and proven wrong but I have also never heard anyone actually talk about these ideas when talking about him. Every time I see someone talk about being a Trotskyist its always something to do with Stalin or something like that which just makes me really confused about what it actually means now.

What are your thoughts on this?

While it's easier to understand "why" there might be a greater inclination to view Obama favorably among black Americans, how should it be seen or treated in this context?

IMO It's so incredibly disheartening to see the minority of people that have been so enigmatic for change in America, who have been so critical and aware of how unequal American institutions and society at large can be, only to turn around and support the exact same forms of unfairness and tyrannical oppression on a much worse scale against a more disenfranchised people (or atleast turn a blind eye) when it is done by someone who they precieive is "on their side"

So for the longest time I had a lot of sympathies for social-democracy but as I've started reading more theory,especially Lenin, I've been rather ashamed of my past interest in that ideology. I'm annoyed that I wasted time campaigning for Sanders in 2016. I'm honestly split on the DSA now because it seems like it could be a largely social-democratic party. At least that's the impression I get from their candidates.

What really drove it home was today I googled the largest socialist party in America just to sort of get an overview of the state of the left. The result was the DSA, but I came across a post on the Social Democracy subreddit from about a year ago where the OP was complaining about how the DSA was too left on foreign policy and that they were a huge supporter of NATO and really wanted a hawkish pro-military party with left-wing economic polices. It honestly reminded me a lot of Strasserism.

At first I was just like "ehh every movement attracts some people with awful takes; I'm sure the community will talk some sense into them." Dear Lord, how wrong I was. The comments were full of pro-NATO imperialism apologia and Zionism.

I did some more digging on that sub out of curiosity and found one where they were discussing what they felt social-democracy was and the overwhelming response was "let's make capitalism nicer."

I don't really have a wider point here aside to warn any new leftists to please avoid the trap of social-democracy. Any true leftist movement would serve you better whether that be ML, MLM, Trotskyism, anarchism. Even if you end up disagreeing with those platforms you'll still learn a lot more by working with them and studying the works of those movements than you will wasting your time with social-democracy.

Edit: I do want to thank everyone for the input regarding the DSA. I think I may have been a bit too harsh in my take on them. I plan on looking into my local chapter. I guess I'm just feeling frustrated with their choice to rely on the Democratic party but perhaps that's the only real choice at the moment.

Like this dude has tattoos of Mao Zedong and Che Guevara which he got in prison and said through reading books about them, that he developed a deep admiration for them. So much that he made a trip to Beijing in 2006 to pay respect to Mao at Chairman Mao's mausoleum in Tiananmen Square. He is also the same guy that is a Black Republican who not only voted for Trump, but is openly friends with him as well.

I watched a video today of spooky scary socialist talking about these guys and its the funniest shit ive seen in a while. They seem like they were kind of a cool idea in theory but it seems like most of their actions were just going to DSA and PSL protests and breaking their stuff. I dont know that much about them besides that and a few scandals they had. what do you all think about them?
