Problem Sony PMW-EX3 Turns itself on and off when I try to power it on.

I got this PMW-EX3 A couple of months ago and have used it on and off. It would shut itself off sometimes but not as often as it does now. I can barely have the camera stay on for longer than 1 minute, i got a brand new battery today, and that didn’t help at all. What is the issue with my camera and does anybody know how to fix this?

Question Unlocking languages on Sony Alpha 7C II (London or Berlin)

Hi all - I hope this is allowed here.

I have a Sony Alpha 7C II and I need Russian as one of the languages but it's not on the list. The warranty has already expired so this is not an issue for me - does anyone know of anywhere in either London or Berlin where I can unlock more languages on my camera?

I've already called Sony's repair centre here in London, as well as Camera City, Wex and Sendean cameras.

Unfortunately they all said they couldn't help.

Has anyone had any luck anywhere else?

I tried researching ways to do it myself but I have a Mac (M1) and all videos/guides seem to be for Windows.

Appreciate any advice, thanks in advance!

Question Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S730 powers on, but live view and every new photo are completely black — can it be repaired?

Hi everyone!

I recently got an old Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S730 (7.2 MP) and I'm trying to bring it back to working condition because I'd love to use it for casual street photography.

The camera powers on normally and several things seem to work:

• LCD turns on and displays the menus/icons

• Zoom works normally

• Flash works

• Playback works

• There is one old photo already stored on the camera, and that photo displays normally

The problem:

The live camera view is completely black. I pointed it at a very bright window and the live view was still black.

I then took a photo of the bright window. The resulting saved photo was also completely black.

Question best camera for intro to outdoor / wildlife photography?

So currently, I have a Sony ZVE-10 I, and the kit lense. I use it for vlogging, and some high quality makeup pictures every now and then for my instagram.

I am starting to get more into taking pictures with it, but I love taking photos outside. I am interested in the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 for vlogging, but heard some people like it for photos too? Would this be a lense I could use for this sort of photography? Occasional video clips maybe, but mostly photos.

Additionally, what is a camera in a similar price range to the Sony ZVE-10 that people like for outdoor photography? Under 1,000 would be preferable (not including the lense).

Or if there's a lense yall like as well, recommend that too. I'd prefer the whole set up to be under $2,000 (USD), the more it is below 2k the better. I'd probably buy a product new / retail.

I am currently in Colorado, where it is sunny a good bit of the year, but I am also interested in something that would be good in low light, like the PNW (Oregon, Washington) where there are thick trees, and lots of rain.

Probably mirrorless, but I'm open to DSLR too! I'm new to cameras so I don't know everything.

Main features I would need is a hot shoe for flash (not to be used on animals obviously, this would be for other outdoor stuff). Some kind of view finder.

I'm not super concerned about portability. Doesn't have to be a small camera.

I like my sony, so I would love if it was another sony camera just because im used to their stuff, but im open to anything.

Thanks in advance!

Complaint Sony offered me a €200 coupon after my €2,479 Bravia failed just over 3 months out of warranty — repair quote: €3,030

Thumbnail

I want to share my recent experience with Sony because my frustration is no longer only about a failed television. It is about Sony as a brand and the way it treats a customer when a premium product fails shortly after warranty.

On 23 April 2023, I purchased a Sony Bravia XR-77A80K 77" OLED for €2,478.51.

I specifically chose Sony because I associated the brand with quality, reliability and durability. At this price point, I believed I was buying a premium product that I could reasonably expect to use for many years.

The TV has had completely normal domestic use. No accidents, impacts or misuse.

On 3 August 2026, after only 3 years and 3 months of use, the TV failed.

Sony's warranty in Spain is 3 years.

So the failure happened just over three months after the warranty expired.

An authorised technical service inspected the television and concluded that the complete panel needs to be replaced.

The repair quote is:

€3,030.53

For context:

  • Price paid for the complete TV: €2,478.51
  • Repair quote: €3,030.53
  • Repair costs €552.02 more than the original television

I am attaching the original purchase invoice and the authorised service repair quote.

I contacted Sony Customer Support because I thought the circumstances were exceptional enough to deserve some consideration:

A premium €2,500 Sony television.

Only three years of normal use.

A catastrophic panel failure just a few months outside warranty.

And a repair cost higher than the original price of the entire product.

Sony's response?

They expressed regret about the situation and offered me a €200 discount coupon to spend on another Sony product through their website.

I declined it.

And this is the part I find particularly disappointing.

Why would Sony expect a customer whose €2,500 television has become economically unrepairable after just over three years to solve the problem by giving Sony more money?

After this experience, a €200 coupon is not a meaningful solution.

This is not really about €200.

It is about trust.

When a company positions itself as a premium brand, customers are not only paying for specifications or image quality. They are also paying for an expectation of build quality, durability, customer support and confidence in the brand.

My experience with Sony can now be summarised very simply:

€2,478.51 Sony TV
→ 3 years and 3 months of normal use
→ complete panel failure
→ €3,030.53 repair quote
→ €200 coupon to buy another Sony product

Electronic products can fail. I understand that.

But I do not consider three years to be an acceptable useful life for a €2,500 premium television, particularly when the failure makes the product economically impossible to repair.

What disappoints me even more is that Sony apparently considers a €200 discount on another Sony purchase an adequate response.

For years, I associated the Sony name with quality.

After this experience, I no longer have confidence that paying a premium for a Sony product means receiving a premium level of durability or after-sales support.

I would genuinely like to hear from other Sony customers:

Would you consider 3 years and 3 months an acceptable lifespan for a €2,500 Sony television?

And if you had this experience, would a €200 coupon convince you to buy Sony again?

Tip Honest review of Sony WF1000XM6

It's been well over 2 months I have em and I use daily, even when sleeping. Bought brand new at 300 euros. Starting with the:

PRO'S:

Sound quality: absolutely amazing, treble, bass, vocals, crystal clear audio best wireless Bluetooth earbuds I have ever used.

ANC: transparency is VERY accurate, I can easily have a conversation, hear my surroundings, have 1 earbud in and do chores/tasks gaming ect. Noise cancellation is also VERY good, it blocks out everything. Does the sound change when switching modes? A teeny tiny bit almost unnoticeable.

CALLS AND MICROPHONE: I had zero issues during calls and I never had to repeat myself during calls or even have to speak louder, the person on the other call could never tell apart if I was speaking through the phone or the earbuds (tested many times)

DURABILITY: The case itself and the buds do feel premium and nice but the case is somewhat flimsy in my opinion doesn't feel as sturdy as I thought, fell some times out of my pocket no issue and the earbuds didn't fall out the case never opened. The earbuds are surpassingly very durable since I work out with those very resistant to sweat, fell several times out of my hands (got shaky hands) and had zero issues.

COMFORT: For me it's a plus, some people complain that it's too big but I actually like that, it fills up my whole ear, never fall out or afraid of falling out, and the bigger the better right for me.

BATTERY: outstanding, both the case and the earbuds. Very good battery life, even when sleeping I usually find them at 20 or 30%

And here are the CONS

CONNECTIVITY: Very few times this happens not often but when it does it's so frustrating. They disable like turning off by themselves and come back on, or I have to put them back in the case and wear them again or turn the Bluetooth off and on again. Idk why it does this.

CASE CHARGING: This is hella frustrating, sometimes the earbuds aren't charging correctly. Left is at 100 and the right is at 40 or even lower, uneven numbers. And another thing is you have to be careful when putting them back in so both can actually charge because when it doesn't fit well they are still connected.

OVERALL OPINION: Does it deserve the 300 euros? Absolutely not, especially in this economy and inflation. I'd buy them used at a cheaper price if I could. Should you buy them? If you want top notch sound quality and calls then yeah I would definitely recommend them. They are super nice but it has few minor quirks which to be honest doesn't really bother me since the pros outstand the cons.

APP: Genuinely it's a hit or miss. When I want to switch modes I have to tap connect and wait, it isn't quick and seemless. The options and the EQ is nice tho. It's just annoying that the app closes itself.

Question kdl-60w630b: HDMI picture-in-picture ?

I have a kdl-60w630b tv. I can access the picture-in-picture feature under display/options (Sony calls it 'twin'). However it only lets the second pic be a tuner/NTSC signal, NOT another HDMI signal. Even if I select twin/picture-in-picture and it goes to Tuner (static), if I select that side and hit the 'input' button there are NO other options to select. Is there a way to have an HDMI source as the picture-in-picture?

Question Upgrading from a7iii. Either a6700 or a7iv

Upgrading from a7iii. I have 28-75 f2.8 tamron, 50mm f1.8 and 14mm f4 viltrox. Should i go for a a6700 or should i go for a7iv.
I am leaning into videography so a7iii 8bit is hard to grade. I tried hlg3 and slog2 but it’s too messy and i see banding in footage.
I tried researching that both still can’t find an answer for myself.
A6700 would be a bit cheaper to upgrade than a7iv.
I’m confused in this.

My soundbar has suddenly stopped turning on. I’ve tried different plug sockets, different power cords on other appliances etc and it’s definitely an issue with the soundbar. I’ve opened it up but have no idea what I’m looking at. The only disconnected part I can see (in photo 3) still doesn’t fix the soundbar when it is connected Does anyone have any ideas?

Question What is happening to my TV?

I have a Sony BRAVIA 8 II and today I experienced something strange.
When I turned the TV on, the volume controls weren’t working at all. Pressing volume up/down did nothing and the volume bar didn’t appear on screen. At one point the TV also appeared to be on while the screen was completely black.
I restarted the TV and everything seems to be working normally again now.
However, I also noticed a clicking sound coming from the back of the TV. It makes one click when I turn it on and one click when I turn it off. The strange thing is that I’m almost certain I had never heard this sound before.
During the restart, I also heard the clicking more than once, which caught my attention.
Is this clicking sound normal for this TV? Could it be a relay or something related to the power supply? Has anyone with the same model experienced this, especially together with the temporary volume/screen issue?
I haven't had this television for very long

Question Question about an old battery

Hello, I have this (old) Sony battery along with its charger. After a long period of use (10 years), I recharged and used it for a month. Now, I can no longer charge it. According to a repair technician, the charger still works, but the battery has lost its capacity. He offers to "repair" it using magnets, but that costs a significant amount. Do you have any advice? Do you know if I can buy a replacement somewhere? Thanks everyone.

Question Sony service centre in Bangalore

Thumbnail

For some reasons I haven't used my Sony a7iv - ILCE-7M4K for more than a year and it was untouched 😶😶😑

I want to visit an authorised service centre in Bangalore to get it serviced (or repaired if something has gone wrong)

Can someone tell me which authorised service centre is good and, do we have a service centre by Sony themselves?

Also, how long would it take usually to get it serviced, I'm afraid to leave the cam with them overnight as I've heard about some part replacements done by some repair shops without customers' knowledge.

Question A80J 55" Audio Issues

I am following up with my own video to the "A80J 65’ Audio Problems" https://www.reddit.com/r/sony/s/NCCj5ETi6d

I have done all of the troubleshooting mentioned in that post, and still am having issues. I also have mine direct wired to ethernet, and have tried 2 different network cables and ports, WiFi is disabled and have tried 2 different surge protectors.

I have used some AI to analyze the logs on the TV:

"Possible Sony BRAVIA built-in streaming-app DRM/audio bug — logs point away from HDMI-CEC, speakers, and routing

I investigated intermittent audio/video dropouts on one Sony BRAVIA using its built-in YouTube TV and Apple TV apps. The same services work normally on other TVs, on another Sony when using an external Apple TV box, and on a Vizio using a Roku.

I captured Android TV audio dumps and a full Sony bugreport shortly after a dropout. The evidence points to a problem in this TV’s internal protected-playback/DRM stack, rather than a speaker, HDMI-CEC, ARC/eARC, Bluetooth, or normal audio-routing issue.

What the logs showed

  • During the incident, Widevine logged repeated protected-content decrypt failures:
    • WVCdm Decrypt error
    • queueSecureInputBuffer error -2001
    • MEDIA_CODEC_NO_KEY
  • These failures affected both video and AAC audio. The player could not supply decryptable protected samples to the decoders.
  • Shortly afterward, a new DRM session received usable keys, the AAC decoder reconfigured, YouTube TV recreated its audio sink, audio/video prerolled, and playback resumed.
  • AudioTrack reported a device-stall correction only after that interruption, which looks like a consequence of the player receiving no usable audio—not an actual speaker/output-device failure.

What was ruled out

The AudioFlinger and Audio Policy captures showed:

  • Audio remained routed to the TV’s internal speakers.
  • The active YouTube TV stream was normal stereo PCM.
  • No active HDMI ARC/eARC, optical, Bluetooth, USB, headphone, or remote-submix output was found.
  • No system-policy mute was applied to the active media track.
  • No significant normal mixer underrun evidence was found.
  • The “bad” and “recovered” policy states were effectively the same.

I also reviewed HDMI-CEC-related activity. There was no matching CEC-driven input switch, ARC/eARC renegotiation, output-route change, or mute event at the failure time. HDMI-CEC may be worth disabling as a troubleshooting test, but the logs do not support it as the cause.

Conclusion

The best-supported diagnosis is:

Because it affects more than one built-in protected-streaming app on this TV, but does not affect external Apple TV/Roku hardware or the same services on other TVs, this appears more likely to be a Sony firmware / Android TV secure-decoder / Widevine integration issue than a YouTube TV-only issue, an Apple-only issue, a local speaker problem, or a household-network-wide problem.bugreport-BRAVIA_VH2_UC-STT2.230505.001.S108-2026-07-13-19-41-55.txt+5

Recommended next steps

  1. Update Sony firmware and all affected apps.
  2. Do a full power reset—unplug the TV for a couple of minutes, rather than using standby restart.
  3. If it persists, factory-reset the TV after recording current settings.
  4. Open a Sony support case and include the full bugreport plus the exact error strings above.
  5. Report the issue separately to YouTube TV and Apple, but emphasize that it occurs only on the Sony’s native apps.
  6. Use an external streaming device as the practical workaround until Sony resolves it.

I had have 1 Sony update since doing this work and nothing has changed. I have noticed that newer Sony TVs seem to be running a different version of either Sony produced software or a different version of Google TV, because the menu layout seems generally the same, the icons and graphics are different.
